After regrouping to release the "13" album back in 2013 (reviewed here), Black Sabbath is now claiming its the end of the road for the band following a "final" farewell tour in 2016. Black Sabbath just issued this announcement via Facebook:
"It's the Beginning of THE END. It started nearly five decades ago with a crack of thunder, a distant bell ringing and then that monstrous riff that shook the earth. The heaviest rock sound ever heard.
"In that moment Heavy Metal was born, created by a young band from Birmingham, England barely out of their teens.
"Now it ENDS, the final tour by the greatest Metal Band of all time, Black Sabbath. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler close the final chapter in the final volume of the incredible Black Sabbath story.
"Black Sabbath's farewell tour, THE END, begins on January 20, 2016 and it promises to surpass all previous tours with their most mesmerizing production ever. When this tour concludes, it will truly be THE END, THE END of one of most legendary bands in Rock ’n Roll history."

Okay, who's counting. Who has had the most "Final Tours" now; The Who, or Black Sabbath?
I think I saw the "first" "Final Tour" in 1999.
Or was it 2001? All of Ozzy's tearful blubbering goodbyes back then seem like such a joke now.
To participate in it any longer just feels like
being bamboozled. Fool me once, etc.

Wasn't Ozzy's farewell tour in 1993-94? KISS 'farewell tour was in 1998 or so with Psycho Circus..and here we are. Every Metallica concert since 1997 I buy tickets thinking 'this could be the last time'
Even the mighty Maiden teased the 'Final Frontier' would be the end of the road....Yet tonight....the book of souls is opened....

I'm thinking this is indeed the last tour for Black Sabbath. They all have interests outside of the band. Iommi will probably continue with some studio work and Geezer may continue with his solo band, and Ozzy will do whatever Sharon tells him to, but Black Sabbath the band is done after this. By the time this tour wraps up in 2016, they'll be 67/68 yrs old. A few years will probably go by before the even consider any re-re-reunion. By that time, who knows what shape they'll be in. I think the time to hang up the tour passes are coming for them and they know it.

Alternate lyrics for their eponymous song that started it all:
What is this, more concerts before me?
Route marked in black, criss-cross the country
Tour starts quick, the shows to come
Find out I'll be leaving home
Oh no!!
Big black bus with wheels of fire
Hauling crew and amps and some pyro
Satan's sitting there, he's driving
Watches those miles get higher and higher
Oh no, no, please God help me
This is the end, my friend.
The tour is coming 'round the bend
people moshing and getting stoned
The people better go and headbang
Go, Go, please, Go

Ginnie, glad you liked it. \m/
elix, I think you're missing the point. It's not that Ozzy can't sing at all. It's that Ozzy can't do his own songs justice any longer.
It's just time to hang it up. Not bad or good, it's just time, and this tour is meant to allow the band to give their fans a proper farewell.
