ProgPower USA XVI, Part 2: Project Dragonland
Daybreak…..September 10th. Going out to the Artmore the previous evening was lame by comparison to the rest of the weekend. Though sold out, the Mid-Week Mayhem show after party just isn’t as big because many of the fans and musicians haven’t arrived to the area quite yet, so a 3:00am turn in time may as well have been midnight.
Waking at 7:00am, I trudged over to the Residence Inn’s quality free hot breakfast on floor 2. Today was the day….it would all hang on Dragonland – the band I’ve been lusting over since the announcement came a year ago. The Kick-Off event has always been a special occasion, but since Nathan Block of Swordlord took over, the bar has been raised dramatically…for me. That is, if you are a power metal fanboy, Nathan is your man. More...

Kittie Announces Documentary Release
Kittie will release a career spanning documentary next year, with a first teaser trailer set to drop on September 25 in London, Ontario at the historic Hyland Cinema in conjunction with the Canadian Premiere of “Nintendo Quest: The Most Unofficial and Unauthorized Nintendo Documentary Ever.” The trailer will appear online after the screening on the band’s Facebook page.
"We are absolutely elated to be able to tell the band's colorful history through the many people that were involved throughout the years," says Kittie. "This project has been a labour of love for the last year and a half and we are excited that things are finally coming together. I'm sure people will be shocked, and maybe even a little astonished when our collective story is told. It has been a wild ride! Thank you to everyone who donated to the IndieGoGo campaign, who made this possible!"
The movie is directed by Rob McCallum who adds his own comments, “It’s been an awesome adventure discovering the real story of the band. You think you’ve got the story sorted out from what you can research online only to realize that everything on you thought you knew is only contorted fragments and a cracked reflection of the ultimate reality. The film charts the career of the heavy metal act from 1996 to present day from their perspective, as it’s clear that they’ve never been given a platform to share their story in their words, and in their own voice
"In addition to the band’s specific history, the documentary looks at the evolution in the music industry, gender and color politics in music, and, the backlash of success. Whether you’re familiar with the band or not, this is a universal story that touches on themes of self worth, living up to exceptions of others, the necessity of goals, and the importance of family. It’s a roller coaster ride that will get you to question and consider your own life in a different light. It’s an important film and I’m lucky that I have the chance share it with the world."

Copenhagen-based extreme DIY label, Indisciplinarian, will release "Carrion" on October 9 in a run of 300 copies on black vinyl. You can also see the band live:

Mohicans Posts 12" EP Online
Creator-Destructor Records is proud to announce the impending release of the brand new, self-titled 12" EP from one of San Francisco, California's heaviest bands, Mohicans, as the entire record is made available for streaming early.
While Mohicans' sonically punishing twin guitar attack of Zac Terrones and Brian Williams sets a decimating tone for the album, it is front man Chris Palomarez' unwavering and every-intensifying vocal delivery and bleak lyrical content that refreshingly appeals to the more punk/hardcore side of the band's unique sound.
Palomarez wrote the lyrics to the six songs while he was living in Los Angeles, suffering from severe anxiety, broke and alone. He would spend nights driving aimlessly around Hollywood at night to shake off his nerves, writing lyrics along the way. These drives and lyrical reflections were an outlet for his intense feelings of alienation and failure in new and unforgiving city.

3. Tales Told In Oblivion

Chain Gang Grave Streams "Green Star Eye"
Brooklyn, New York's Chain Gang Grave today announces the November 13th release of second EP, "Bury Them and Keep Quiet." You can stream opening track "Green Star Eye" below.
Fronted by a singer known as Young Al Bundy, Chain Gang Grave rides a line between dark and light, wrath and yearning. Acidic noise rock and raw metal power combine with white-knuckle hardcore punk in music that mostly wallows in subterranean grime but can also soar high above.
Lyrically, vocalist Bundy wrestles with "the battle between individuality and community in the warzone of the psyche," in his own words. EP opener "Green Star Eye" sets the tone with these lines: "I'm waiting for a sign / And I've come to realize / That I just can't put my finger on it / A boiling unrest between my eyes / And the worlds on either side."
"Bury Them and Keep Quiet" follows the band's 2014 debut EP, "When Your Friends Become Cops." The new release was recorded and mixed by the band in a basement in South Brooklyn and then mastered by James Plotkin of Khanate and OLD. The track listing is:
1. Green Star Eye
2. Snake Bite Blues

Eastbourne’s three-piece thunderstorm Let’s Talk Daggers will release the Martin Ruffin recorded and produced album, "A Beautiful Life," through Tangled Talk Records on October 23, 2015. Guitarist/vocalist Will Gunson comments:
“Our new album is like nothing we've done before, in the sense that it's a full-length record that still successfully captures our essence and humour. It's a more mature blend of all our favourite sounds and like our previous releases, it's hard to categorise. But it's definitely something refreshing that we are confident about. Listening to ‘A Beautiful Life' is like not knowing what planet you came from that morning.”

The Shrine Posts "Death To Invaders" Video
Venice Beach, California's purveyors of psychedelic violence from The Shrine have unveiled details about their upcoming Century Media Records debut, "Rare Breed."
Oozing with old-school flair, punk aggression and unbridled rock 'n' roll fury; "Rare Breed" has been set for North American release on January 15, 2016 (with extended content) and October 30, 2015 in Europe.
A new video for the track "Death to Invaders" can be seen below, The Shrine guitarist/vocalist Josh Landau comments "'Death to Invaders' is pretty much the shortest straight ahead fast song on the album. The title was inspired from the old Dogtown graffiti at POP Pier, but the lyrics kinda don't have anything else to do with that." More...
Rectified Spirit Streaming New Album
Rectified Spirit from Guwahati, India just released "The Waste Land," which can be heard below or picked up through Transcending Obscurity here. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"There remains a divide between old school and new school music but Rectified Spirit has taken the middle path in a way so as to not alienate either factions but take the sound ahead by taking the best qualities of both worlds. Clean singing vocals collaborate with rasps and shrieks that form the modern standard, with the vocalist Rainjong Lepcha shuffling back and forth shockingly seamlessly, the guitarist duo of Samudragupta Dutta and Dishankan Baruah weaving surreal rhythms and melodies, just as colourful as the artwork, while the drummer ups the tempo and excitement level.
"None of them are wallowing here in the sound established by their peers, as the band rises like a phoenix after its overlooked previous self-titled album, to carve a part of its own, a path laden with surprises and heartfelt metal melodies. An album as well-thought and balanced as 'The Waste Land' (inspired by the poet T.S. Eliot) is hard to come by from any country, let alone India."

And Justice For Art Presents: Tattoos Album Covers
Some Metal fans give their life and soul to worshiping the music they love. Others, are more specific and prefer to give... their backs. They unashamedly imprint that part of their bodies with hyper-detailed tattoo renditions of some of their favorite album covers. No doubt, that's the ultimate compliment that a band or a visual artist could receive from their faithful followers..
On this episode of "And Justice For Art," we invite you to explore ten visual examples of Metal tattoo fandom. They showcase different renditions of images that have adorned the covers of some iconic Metal/Hard Rock albums over the past few decades. In some cases (Slayer, Venon) the inked images were kept as faithful as possible to the original. In others (KISS, Benediction, Manowar) the tattoo artists and the recipients tried to become a little creative and added their own personal touches.
Are these true pieces of art, the ultimate fan tribute or the result of an uncontrollable addiction to body inking and Metal music? You decide. In the meantime, check you the images below and take some inspiration from them... maybe your own back is next!

Aborted Guitarist Exits The Band
View post on imgur.com
Aborted just announced Danny Tunker's departure via the following official statement:
"So sometimes there’s good news and sometimes there’s not so good news. Today is one of the not so good news days. After three amazing years guitarist Danny Tunker decided he needed to step back from the band and pursue a different path in life. Combining a normal life and day job became too stressful to combine with our heavy schedule and even if we are sad to see him go, we completely understand his decision and support him in doing what makes him happy in life.
We had 3 great years with Danny and we all felt like a big family so we ask you all to show respect towards both Danny, his decision and the band, there is no bad blood, there is no need for any drama or gossip, Danny had the following to day:
"After a lot of soul searching for the past few months I’ve decided to part ways with Aborted. It’s been a hell of a ride and I want to thank to guys for all the good, bad and in between times. There’s no bad blood and I wish the band all the best, but I needed a change. I will still play the shows in Cairo and Tel Aviv and then on to different ventures (several of which I’m working on right now). And of course continue/expand my involvement with Alkaloid. So, once again, thanks to the band and everyone who made the past 3+ years completely unforgettable."
