Brendon Small Talks Metalocalypse Now
Metal Injection correspondant Robert Pasbani chatted with Metalocalypse creator Brendon Small about the MetalocalypseNow campaign and potential return of the show, what his ideas for the end of the show could be, his influences in music, and writing a new Dethklok album.
On possible new Dethklok material: "I've got a hard drive full of stuff that I really like. Whether or not this happens, you're going to get new music. I divide up my day writing for future TV shows, writing stand-up and writing music. It's really nice to toggle between those three things and go into my Pro-Tools rig, use it like a sketch pad, circle my favorite things and go 'OK, this is starting to sound like a song.' My rule is, if I like it a lot, I want other people to hear it. That's how every other Dethklok record has been. If I wanna hear it, I put it out and hope other people feel the same way.
On influencing cartoon fans to get into metal: "My favorite thing about the show has been when people say 'I don't know anything about metal, but I love Dethklok. What else can you recommend?' Here are all my influences, and the people that influenced those influences... there's a whole world." More...
City Of Ships Offering Album For Downlaod
Six months after its worldwide release, the latest City Of Ships album "Ultraluminal" is now available as a name-your-price download (even free) through Bandcamp here. Vocalist/guitarist Eric Jernigan explains:
"The level of work and reinvention that went into this record set a new standard for us as a band. While touring on these songs this year we met so many people who've been inspired by them, which reinforced the fact that this music is a gift for our listeners as much as it is catharsis for ourselves.
"With that in mind we're celebrating the album's achievement half a year later by offering it up for an affordable price to anyone who either missed it or couldn't afford it back in the spring. We hope it brings you even a fraction of the joy we experienced in making it." More...

Gospel Of The Witches Releases New Video
Prepare to take a journey into the ancient rites of incarnation with the new music video for "The Ascent" from Karyn Crisis' Gospel Of The Witches.
This track is taken from the "Salem's Wounds" album, which features occult metal soundscapes that seamlessly soar from evil heaviness to ambient romanticism through soul provoking passages of light and darkness.
Karyn Crisis comments: "'The Ascent' is about the transformative ancient rite of death and resurrection. It also alludes to the wisdom attained through attuning to the nature of energies which often appear to us as illusions of opposites. To be incarnated again we must first go through the death transition; we must enter the darkness to find the light; to hear the voice of the Universe we must go within, turning attention away from the physical world. Opposites are merely halves of a whole: masculine and feminine energies, the macrocosm and the microcosm, life and death. More...
Textures Reveals Two Upcoming Albums
Dutch progressive metallers Textures is about to release a musical diptych: "Phenotype - Genotype," which will be two new albums set up around one concept. The Dutch sextet is not a band to put out an album every year in a row. The group took almost 2.5 years to write and record albums no. 5 and 6.
"Music is no fast food! Details are crafted and re-crafted. Extra layers are created and stretched to form the ultimate tension span for years to last."
"Phenotype," the first album to be released on February 5, 2016 via Nuclear Blast, is a 60-minute long song-based album. Textures presents an eclectic overview of what modern metal has to offer. Catchy, innovative and progressive songs are what Textures stands for. The new virtuosos Uri Dijk (synth) and Joe Tal (guitar) deliver a harmonic vibe to the band's sound.
"Genotype," which will be released a year later, is a 45-minute long conceptual track. The root material of "Phenotype" is presented in this song, but in a totally different context as Textures goes out of the box: more proggy, more atmosphere and lots of extra layers to fill the last gaps left in this extensive double rollercoaster ride.
