Master Of Cruelty Recording New Album

Paraguayan black/death cult Master of Cruelty just entered 340 Studios to begin recording second album, "Archaic Visions of the Underworld," which Blood Harvest Records will release on vinyl next year (Deathrash Armageddon will handle the CD version while Warfukk Records will handle the tape version).

In 2012, Blood Harvest released the vinyl edition of Master of Cruelty's debut album, "Spit on the Holy Grail," a rabid 'n' ripping assault of bestial, deathly black/thrash. Master of Cruelty aims to surpass that debut with "Archaic Visions of the Underworld." The band comments:

"Archaic Visions of the Underworld is deeply submerged in the unholy spine of Mantos, which represents what Master of Cruelty bleeds and kills for. Our sonic evil universe has been expanded into a much more profound, obscure atmosphere where restless violence and doomish paraphernalia shall always prevail. We invite only the sick demons of the underground to enter the realm of savage Paraguayan madness with the eight unedited tracks craving from the entity MAESTRO DE LA CRUELDAD." More...

Chthonic Cult Announces LP Release

From formless mist emerges the Chthonic Cult and their debut album, "I Am the Scourge of Eternity," set for international release on January 22, 2016 via Iron Bonehead Productions for the vinyl LP format.

As vocalist/guitarist Hyperborean explains, the album "is a collection of visions, visions not necessarily of my own. The character’s visions arise from meditation and from madness, from ritual and from suffering the mundane, from contemplation of the sacred light and the sacred darkness and of the decay of the world which the Gods have abandoned, from the witnessing of the face of the One who builds and destroys, who tortures and heals. The visions transgress time in the witnessing of the beginning, the end, and the countless rebirths of this despicable world, yet, since visions only they are, lead ultimately to the realisation that we are, in fact, slaves to time and its cycles, slaves that can only be redeemed by the Creator and the Destroyer and the ritual and the sacred madness that dwells in us all.”

Tape and CD versions will be out earlier on Iron Bonehead and NecroShrine, respectively. The track listing is as follows:

1. As the Void Beckons
2. The Abyss Triumphant
3. Asunder!
4. I Am the Scourge of Eternity More...

Final Sign Reveals "Hold High The Flame" Details

The musical partnership between vocalist Shawn Pelata and guitarist Brian "Hellstorm" Williams dates back to 1999, when Brian contacted Shawn with the hope of recruiting him to sing for a new project he was putting together. That short-lived endeavor became K-Octavem yielding a single album titled "Outer Limits," issued via Germany's Hellion Records in 2001.

Williams then continued with his main band October 31 while Pelata released two albums with melodic rock outfit Line Of Fire, as well as working with metalcore cultists KillWhitneyDead. The two kept in touch, vowing to one day work together again when the time was right.

That time, it seems, is now. An unstoppable riff machine (he's not called "Hellstorm" for nothing), Brian soon found himself with new players, and eight new songs in need of the right voice. He knew just who to call: Shawn was brought on board and—alongside Kevin Haverlah (drums) and Howard Baker (bass)— Final Sign was born.

Divebomb Records is proud to present the debut album from Final Sign, titled "Hold High The Flame." It's a ravenous blend of U.S. power metal, thrash and old school heavy metal. Pelata adds, "Brian and I are really excited that our new band Final Sign is part of the Divebomb Records family! These guys know their audience, they know their Metal, and their track record speaks for itself. It's an honor for me, personally, to have their continued support." More...

Draconian Posts New Song "Stellar Tombs"

Draconian has a new song online for streaming today titled "Stellar Tombs," which can be heard below and comes off impending album "Sovran," due out October 30, 2015. Anders Jacobsson comments:

"This track is like a storm, a storm of a life trying to re-connect to its' soul, to its' place in the Cosmos. To me it's like a cognition through this constricted, three-dimensional world and the expanded reality beyond. At the time I wrote this it was like an almost grotesque cocktail of fear and identity leading to inner depletion, but would mutate into the realization of its illusion, to a sense of peace and acceptance. Stellar Tombs is a 'spicy' song, somewhat intense and brooding, and like many other Draconian-songs the main empathy rests on a transitional phase; becoming who You are. I'd say it’s one of the more monolithic songs of the new album." More...

Devil You Know Teams Up With Porn Stars For Video

Devil You Know just dropped a new music video for the track "The Way We Die,” which comes off upcoming full-length "They Bleed Red," due out everywhere on November 6 (Nuclear Blast Records).

The clip features a slew of Burning Angel porn stars and was shot by director Corey Soria (Danzig, Hollywood Undead). Look for Devil You KNow on tour alongside Five Finger Death Punch and Papa Roach across all of Europe from November 2 through 28.

John Sankey (drums) states: "There’s nothing more rock n' roll then spending the night at a Hollywood strip club partying and getting wild with a bunch of sexy porn stars, so when it came time for us to decide on a concept for our latest video shoot that’s exactly what we did. What metalhead doesn’t want to see hot tattooed girls dancing and stripping while listening to heavy guitar riffs, thunderous bass, pummeling drums and HOJO singing about ‘The Way We Die’? It's the perfect heavy metal storm!

"The infamous Burning Angel girls were a blast to hang out with and we had a whole lot of fun letting them entertain us for the evening. Howard got to do some 'pole fishing', Francesco was making it rain, Ryan was getting plenty of attention at the pool table and I got a bit too busy with some of the ladies in the corner and eventually got us all kicked out. No regrets! We had no interest in doing another performance video with us jamming out, since we did that last album and wanted to shake things up. This was all about us having fun, getting crazy, living the dream and sharing it with the world to enjoy.” More...

Mortiis Releases "Doppleganger" Video

Mortiis has unveiled the video for "Doppelganger," the first single from the long-awaited upcoming album "The Great Deceiver." The "Doppelganger" single is available as a free download at the Mortiis website today.

"As a song, 'Doppelganger' not so much investigates or peeks into a conflicted psyche, as it just rips it open and exposes someone for being a two faced piece of shit," Mortiis said. "I absolutely see myself as that. Sometimes. Other times I try to be a good person. I often fail. Perhaps I treat myself harshly. But it´s there now, in my face, and I don´t disagree with what the song is saying."

The video, directed by Robyn Van Swank with Nick Plotquin, brings the track to life with horrific images of bloodletting, mutilation and torture.

"I thought there was a rough sort of irony in it all with the physical and psychological mutilation," Mortiis said. "The knife imitates the words...the truth bleeds out..."

The video for "Doppelganger" is also Mortiis' reaction to years of being artistically held back by record companies that shied away from the graphic content that visually sums up Mortiis' music. "I always thought that was ridiculous," he said. "We wanted to make videos that people would notice, that would cause a reaction, something they wouldn´t forget as soon as the next video came on. I always thought that if our music or imagery pissed someone off, or made them want to puke in their mouths that would be a way better reaction than indifference."

Mortiis had previously discussed making a video that would be one straight scene of self-mutilation but always knew the powers that be would put the kibosh on it. When he connected with Von Swank to discuss filming "Doppelganger," self-mutilation was naturally the first topic. More...

Phantasma Dares You To "Enter Dreamscape"

Phantasma - the new symphonic rock musical featuring Delain's Charlotte Wessels, Serenity's Georg Neuhauser and Everon's Oliver Phillipps - has premiered the lyric video for new track "Enter Dreamscape" right here on Metal Underground.com (check it out below). The song is taken from the upcoming debut "The Deviant Hearts," which will drop on November 20th via Napalm Records.

Phantasma was born from the longstanding ambition to create a story-driven concept record of Georg Neuhauser, vocal force behind symphonic metal outfit Serenity. He found his partner in crime with multi-instrumentalist composer, producer and vocalist Oliver Philipps (Everon) who gladly embarked on this new mission that allowed him to reconnect with being a musician in the first place, as a welcome change from working for other bands, which he has done extensively over the years, providing the rich sound connoisseurs of the genre have come to expect from him.

As Oliver worked with Delain since their debuting record, a request at Charlotte Wessels's address was made to complete the dynamic trio of Phantasma. It is therefore not only surprising, but also gratifying that Charlotte lends not only her voice to Phantasma, but also her debut novella "The Deviant Hearts," which she specifically wrote for the project.

Charlotte commented on "Enter Dreamscape": “We are so happy to share this first track from "The Deviant Hearts" with you! There is much more to come. We hope you like what you hear! You can find pre-order links to the album below!”

Pre-orders can be made at this location.

Giving a face to several characters in the story are noted guest vocalists Tom Englund (Evergrey), who performs on tracks such as "Enter Dreamscape" and "The Deviant Hearts," Cloe Lowery (T.S.O.), who shines on the heart-wrenching ballad "Try" alongside Dennis Schunke (Van Canto), and who can also be heard pn "Carry Me Home." Georg, Oliver, and Charlotte themselves finish the vocal palette while the sound is completed by Jason Gianni (Daredevil Squadron, Neal Morse Band, T.S.O.) on drums, Randy George (Neal Morse Band, Ajalon) on bass and Tom Buchberger (ex-Serenity) guesting two songs on guitar. Milan-based artist Marco Mazzoni provides the haunting cover art (shown below) and illustrations to the story, creating an eerie visual world with his elaborate style. More...

Former HammerFall Bassist Joins Shadowside

Brazilian metal act Shadowside has announced the addition of Swedish bassist Magnus Rosén (ex-HammerFall) to the group's ranks.

Shadowside was formed by singer Dani Nolden, guitarist Raphael Mattos and drummer Fabio Buitvidas. Magnus was part of Hammerfall from 1997 to 2007 and did several world tours and recorded several albums with the band. He also recorded albums with Jorn Lande, Tony Martin (ex-Black Sabbath) and has just released his 10th solo album entitled "The World Changes" with musicians who played with Hammerfall, Black Sabbath, ABBA, Yngwie Malmsteen and others.

Magnus Rosén commented: "I've been away from the metal stage for more than 8 years! Metal has a very nice energy that I miss and love, and I think Shadowside has just that kind of nice metal that fits my style! And at the same time I always liked Brazil/South America. After 9 times with mixed Hammerfall tours and solo bass tours in this part of world, I know for sure of my feelings and I am looking forward to join the band Shadowside. So when I was asked to join and play with Shadowside, so was the desire great to once again set a high volume, smoke, light, and good metal music. The band have nice feelings in the metal music that I like. I got few new song ideas from the band and I think these songs and music are powerful and will be loved by the people out there. So I can't wait to get the wheels moving forward with the band." More...
