Instigator Envisions A "Bad Future"

Parents, teachers and politicians, lock up yourselves! After the 2010 "Future Shock" tape, the barbarians from Instigator have returned with the "Bad Future" 7" vinyl EP. The black vinyl mini-album will be released December 11, 2015 via Gates of Hell Records (a Cruz Del Sur Music sub-label).

Featuring members of Antichrist, Portrait, Devil Lee Rot, Trap, Autopsy Torment, and more, Instigator offers four tracks (15 minutes) of pure speed metal strictly on black vinyl. Pre-orders are set for November 20. The band comments on this release:

"2015, after the fall of Europe: human beings are nothing more than consumers. Everything is a product that must be sold to everyone. A fashion created to be suitable for all. In a globalized world, mankind has grown weak. And controllable.

"Technology, the way to profit, power and mass enslavement. But as the world leaders' confidence increases, a far more aggressive tyrant is about to take over. Out of the ashes of civilization and into the future, Instigator will twist your children's minds with metal, Satan, hate towards society and disrespect for authority.

"Instigator is not about fashion. Instigator is not about selling colored vinyls and limited patches to kids so they can post them on the Internet. Instigator is not on Facebook."

Rex Shachath Posts Drum Recording Video

With just under one month until the release of the Northern Irish death metal outfit's second record, an EP entitled "Revocation Of The Blood Elect," Rex Shachath will post a series of videos over the coming weeks taking the viewer behind the scenes and into the studio where the recording took place.

With a good dose of tongue in cheek, these clips will show snippets of the band at work in Sonic Forge Studio in Cardiff, Wales, with producer Joe Thompson, tracking the songs of the EP but also the tomfoolery and mischief you often find when five grown men have spent far too long in too small of a place.

This first episode focuses on drum tracking and can be seen below, hile drummer Jay Rogers comments on the process:

"In the beginning it was quite tough. We had planned to travel to the studio the day before recording, get a good nights sleep and start work first thing the next day. We started our journey from our hometown of Belfast and headed two hours south to Dublin to catch a ferry across the Irish Sea to Holyhead, Wales, before driving the length of the country to Cardiff. Darkest Era Releasing "Gods And Origins" Vinyl

Darkest Era is set to release a new vinyl 7" entitled "Gods and Origins" on November 20, 2015 via Cruz Del Sur Music. Recorded between the studio session for "Severance" and spring of 2015, "Gods and Origins" is an insightful representation of the group's decade-long existence.

This new offering will be released in a limited edition (150) Swamp Green and Regular Black vinyl. Pre-orders will be available Oct 31 through Cruz Del Sur Music and the band's website.

The EP features new song "Elohim" and a re-recording of an early gem called "An Dagda Awakens" (renamed "An Dagda" for the 7"). Guitarist Ade Mulgrew had this to say about the re-recording:

"Since it's almost 10 years since myself and Sarah started playing guitar together, we decided to revisit one of the first songs we wrote, 'An Dagda Awakens'. Written with the fiery energy (and perhaps naivety) of teenage metalheads making their first steps on their journey, we have breathed smoke and ashes into this old song and brought it screaming into the darkness." Rob Dukes On Former Bandmates: "Fuck Those D-Bags"

Last year Exodus parted ways with vocalist Rob Dukes and reunited with former front man Steve Zetro Souza. That collaboration resulted in the band's latest album "Blood In, Blood Out" (reviewed here).

Now nearly a year and a half after the lineup change was made public knowledge, Painful Pleasures conducted an interview with Dukes about tattoos and his departure from the band, where he had some choice words for his former bandmates. An excerpt from the interview follows.

Painful Pleasures: Now that some time has passed, any new thoughts on your dismissal from Exodus?

Dukes: Fuck those douchebags. I never have to talk to them again...or their managers, and that's such a good thing. It's like I cut a cancer out of my life.

Which era of Exodus do you prefer, and are you glad Zetro is back or wish Dukes was still commanding the stage?

"We realize that not everyone will be capable of comprehending this record in full, because the words, that God said, aren’t food for those whose hearts are fading away.

Autopsy Streaming New Track

U.S. death metal maestro Autopsy just launched a brand new track titled "Waiting for the Screams," taken from the band's upcoming "Skull Grinder" LP due out on vinyl on November 27, 2015 via Peaceville. Just in time for Halloween, stream the first "Skull Grinder" track below.

Autopsy is set to return with a double-bill of unbridled horror this year on Peaceville Records. Commencing with "After the Cutting" on November 13, this is a special limited release containing an expansive book penned by Dennis Dread recounting the career of the gore legend, featuring unseen photos and exclusive artwork, accompanied by four discs brimmed full of classics, new tracks and previously unheard rarities from deep within the band's own archive.

This will be followed by the aptly-titled "Skull Grinder," containing seven new tracks (also featured on "After the Cutting") and releasing on vinyl to coincide with this year's Black Friday on November 27 (CD to follow in 2016).

The band commented: "We at Autopsy HQ are pleased to have the opportunity to once again torture your minds and ear holes through the medium of recorded brutality. The band went back to Fantasy Studios in Berkeley in late July to record a brand new release called 'Skull Grinder.' Musically, it's just what you'd expect from us; no style changes, wimp outs, sell outs, settling down or caving in. Add to that acknowledgement of the obvious, some of Wes Benscoter's sickest art yet to (dis)grace the cover, and you have a new sledgehammer to the bowels with no apologies offered whatsoever.

"In case that isn't enough to bring the taste of bile into the back of your throat, let it be known that there is also a four-disc set on the way titled 'After the Cutting,' packed with hours of horrifying music, cover art from none other than Kev Walker as well as an extensive book written by Dennis Dread, riddled with interviews, photos and other assorted uncleanliness. The release date for both of these monstrosities is slated for this coming November. More details are forthcoming..." More...

Avantasia Recruits Marco Hietala For New Album

What do Geoff Tate, Dee Snider, Michael Kiske, Robert Mason, Jorn Lande, Bob Catley, Ronnie Atkins, Olli Hartmann and me have in common with Marco Hietala of Nightwish?

They'll all be on the new Avantasia album "Ghostlights" due out on January 29, 2016! Tobias Sammet had this to say about the latest addition to the album's lineup:

"About Marco: It was August 1997 and we were in Helsinki to mix the 'Vain Glory Opera' album of Edguy when someone played the band Tarot to me. That great band seemed to be some sort of a legend in Finland (in Germany Tarot were not really known at the time). A few years later a band called Nightwish had appeared on the map and were about to take the European metal world upside down. Edguy played a festival in England with Saxon and amongst others: Nightwish!

"I remember even though they had a great female vocalist how much I loved the rendition of Ozzy Osbourne's 'Crazy Train' that they did - if I remember correctly - which was sung by their bass player. You know, a lot of bass players are bass players because they wanna be in a band too; and there's only so much damage you can do to the sound of a band with just a bass. Sometimes they're only in the band because they talk enough to organize things or they have a day job to finance the first demo recordings, nice stage clothes, or sun glasses, but at the end of the day, most of them aren't taken seriously because… well, because they're bass players. :) And they're always suspicious... ;) More...
