Pit Stories: Hotel Room Denied

It's Pit Story time once again! Like with last week's tale about dodging moose, today we shift focus away from the moshing over to the time shortly afterward where the band needs to find a place to crash and then hit the road again to keep the music going in another town.

Today's Pit Story comes courtesy of Hendrik Wippermann from German hard rock band Eat The Gun, who had this to say:

Over the last 12 years we’ve played a huge number of shows all over Europe so we could certainly publish a complete “Book of Tales from the Pit” if only anyone wanted to read it. Well, here’s one story from the past: We played in a small Swiss rock club, the name of the establishment isn’t important to mention.

The club was really packed, so we hung out at the bar after the show and most of us got pretty wasted. Unfortunately, I was the driver so I had to be satisfied with soft drinks that night. It must have been around 1 AM in the morning when we decided to leave for the hotel, so I asked the owner for the keys to the hotel. He turned around and walked into the backroom returning with five towels. He looked at me and told me that we’d all needed to take a shower.

I started to laugh because I assumed the guy was kidding me. Unfortunately he wasn’t. So I stood there in the still quite packed rock club with my four boozy band mates who were at that point far away from being in the physical condition of taking a shower. It should be added that the showers were placed in the club. I imagined us walking barefoot through the club covered with nothing but white towels.

I turned to the owner and told him that there wouldn’t be the smallest chance for me to convince the other guys to take a shower at this point. He explained that it wouldn’t be possible to use the hotel beds if the band was still “soaked with sweat.” To keep a long story short, we drove to the next venue overnight. Sometimes soft drinks suck.

Eat The Gun's new album "Howlinwood" dropped on September 4 via SPV/Steamhammer and you can pick up your copy at this location. More...

Hells Headbangers is proud to present Diavolos' debut album, "You Lived, Now Die," set for international release on December 11, 2015.

Fittingly, the quintet's "You Lived, Now Die" is an unabashed throwback to the original wave of 1980s death metal, long before blastbeats and gore became de rigeur. The album's track listing is as follows:

Zud Returning To The Stage

After a year and a half hiatus, Zud will return to the stage in less than two weeks to headline the first Shadow Woods metal festival on September 26, 2015.

The new open air, camping based metal fest takes place in White Hall Maryland, just north of Baltimore. With the likes of Midnight, Occultation, Wormreich, Dreadlords and Sangharsha and over two-dozen others at the two-day event, Shadow Woods can be expected to be a game changer in festivals held on the East Coast.

In regards to the fest, Zud frontman Justin Curtsinger states: "I think this fest is going to really wake up a lot of folks who gravitate towards this type of music into realizing that there is more to this stuff then this mundane excuse of a 'metal' lifestyle of getting trashed and watching horror movies or Metalocalypse or driving a Scion to MDF. I know there have been fests like this done semi-successfully on this scale out west and there have been attempts at it east of Chicago, but I think Shadows Woods is going to be something else all together. It is an honor to be a part of it."

For those a bit further north, there will also be one more live performance from Zud for 2015; Halloween Night at Geno's Rock Club in Portland, Maine. Support will come from Sangharsha (Kathmandu via NYC) and two other Portland locals, Sylvia and Mugwort.

"Both of these shows are going to be pretty special for Zud," Curtsinger continues. "Zud has been on hiatus for two reasons, which maybe I'll get into some other time, but, what matters for now is that it is back and ready to keep exploring further through this weird maze of obscure roads where it left off. I feel that the new lineup is much stronger than before and I am psyched to not only play these two shows with the new guns on board, but to see where we go together over the winter with new material. A Sound Of Thunder Makes You "Tremble"

As excitement and anticipation builds for the new release "Tales from the Deadside," D.C. area metal act A Sound Of Thunder has unveiled the new audio track "Tremble." The song can be previewed in its entirety in the player below.

A Sound of Thunder guitarist Josh Schwartz comments: "Tremble is the name of one of the big villains in the Shadowman comics [on which the album is based]; an ancient voodoo spirit inhabiting a human host, spreading fear wherever he goes, and inciting people to do terrible things because of that fear. He's a monster, so we wrote a monstrous song. 'Tremble' is basically music to crush/kill/destroy...heavy groove meets grinding riffs and sinister vocals. Alternatively, if you own a Panzer tank, this is a good song to play when you take to the streets and start crushing cars beneath the treads. We also had a ton of fun recording this one, especially [ASoT vocalist] Nina, whose vocals are infused with black magic, ancient spells, vodka...and just a hint of King Diamondy cheese for good measure. Play it loud; do neck damage."

The band will release "Tales From The Deadside" worldwide via its own Mad Neptune Records on September 25th. More...

Behemoth Releases "The Satanist" Video

Behemoth has launched a brand new video for the title track from "The Satanist." The video, directed by Andrzej Dragan, is another ambitious and visually striking piece of art from the band that's known for videos that remain a cut above standard metal music clips.

Behemoth front man Nergal comments: "Behemoth has always been about breaking boundaries, taboos, leaving its comfort zone and thinking out of the box! Here we go again with the brand new video from us. It's already a fourth official clip off 'The Satanist.'

"The concept came from the director, Andrzej Dragan. It's situated in modern Warsaw in the present times. It's where the carnal world meets the unknown… it's where the ZOS meets KIA… It's where SACRUM is raped by PROFANUM…"

Director Andrzej Dragan adds this brief comment: "This is a picture of alienation and ultimate rejection of an oversensitive character by an anonymous city."

Behemoth's latest output "The Satanist" was released in February of 2014 and named our album of the year during our annual year-end awards. More...

Void Of Sleep Announces The "New World Order"

The Italian progressive occult metal visionaries from Void Of Sleep will release their sophomore full-length in Europe on October 16 and in North America on November 13 via Aural Music.

Titled "New World Order," the seven track concept album and follow-up to 2013's "Tales Between Reality And Madness" long player (reviewed here) was captured by bassist Riccardo Pasini (Ephel Duath, The Secret) at Studio73 in Ravenna, Italy and mastered by Collin Jordan (Eyehategod, Indian, Wovenhand, Voivod etc.) at The Boiler Room in Chicago, Illinois.

"'New World Order' represents to us a new culmination of our sound," issues of the band of this latest composition. "Now more than ever you can call it visionary, sludgy and progressive. It's an occult, esoteric and wicked metaphor to the modern society as we consider it: with no positive expectations of the future of this world. This album embraces the concept of evil in its purest form. Since the beginning, man has been doomed to consume and enslave and destroy his own kind in an absurd discord to the final extinction."

The "New World Order" album comes shrouded in the arcane cover creation of Simone Bertozzi who relays of the work, "while doing it I experienced the breath of Lucifer on my back, the Illuminati around the corner and reptilians getting ready for my abduction. Coincidence? I think not."

1. The Devil's Conjuration
2. Hidden Revelations
3. Slaves Shall Serve
4. Ordo Ab Chao
5. Lords Of Conspiracy
