Pit Stories: Band Casualties In The Pit
Time for another Pit Story - this time about a band taking part in pit shenanigans that saw a show cut short and a vocalist get the boot!
Orc Adams of Orcumentary had this tale to share about performing live while another band was busy imploding out in the crowd:
I played a show a few years ago which turned out to be an interesting spin on the whole “I knew the band before they were famous” thing. I was playing my final song ("Orc Rock Anthem") and after a short amount of time, things seemed to get a bit rowdier than usual. People were moshing, but I didn’t pay that close attention to it, obviously focused on the performance. I finished the song, broke my gear down, got off stage, only to find out that one of the bands just left without even playing.
The account I received of what happened was that in the pit during my last song, someone was pushed into the singer of the aforementioned band. The singer punched that guy in the face and started a big fight. That band fired their singer and they just drove back home (probably a 3 hour drive) without even playing. They had a U-Haul and everything.
I’d prefer not to divulge the name of the band, but they recently signed to a very well-known metal label.
Alright metal heads, let's hear your predictions on who is being referred to in the story! Anybody else actually go to this show and see it go down?

Red Fang Covers Elvis
Portland's Red Fang has premiered a cover of Elvis's "Can't Help Falling in Love" in preparation for the band's headlining fall U.S. tour. Listen in below, and the band also comments:
"We were asked to cover an Elvis song a while back and none of us are really Elvis fans so we were kind of at a loss. We had this dark and doomy jam we'd been kickin' around for a while and we thought 'what if we just record our own song and see if we can make the lyrics fit somehow?' And to our surprise it turned out pretty rad! Maybe Elvis is spinning in his grave, but I dig it."
The cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love" will appear alongside a cover of Fraggle Rock's "Why" on a limited edition 7" to be released by Volcom in conjunction with the band's upcoming U.S. tour. 500 copies of the 7" on red/black splatter will be available exclusively via Volcom, while 500 copies on red vinyl and 1000 copies on black vinyl will be available with the band on tour. "When we were asked to write a joined convert piece by the Eidsivablot festival for the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution, we both immediately saw the outline of something massive and important.

Valient Thorr Signs With Naplam Records
Valient Thorr is the baddest band on the planet (from another planet). The band has been rocking the adopted home of Earth since arriving here from Venus over fifteen years ago. With six albums under it's belt the band just joined forces with Napalm Records for the release of the seventh! This MC5/James Brown inspired quintuplet has stood the test of time morphing in and out of what Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister calls simply - Rock N' Roll.
"After wandering around space last year contemplating all the wild things that are going on in the universe... we are proud and super excited to announce that we have signed a new deal with Napalm Records. So get ready for a new album (our seventh) in TWO THORRSAND SIXTEEN," says frontman Valient Himself.

Serenity/Delain Members Announce Phantasma
Allow yourself to be transported to another world by Phantasma - a project sprung from the collective energy of Georg Neuhauser (Serenity), Oliver Philipps (Everon) and Charlotte Wessels (Delain). The release features memorable songs and intense arrangements centered around included novella ‘The Deviant Hearts’. It releases on October 20th via Napalm Records.
Phantasma was born from the longstanding ambition to create a story driven concept record of Georg Neuhauser, vocal force behind Tyrolean symphonic metal outfit Serenity. He found his partner in crime with multi-instrumentalist composer, producer and vocalist Oliver Philipps (Everon) who gladly embarked on this new mission that allowed him to reconnect with being a musician in the first place, as a welcome change from working for other bands, which he has done extensively over the years, providing the rich sound connoisseurs of the genre have come to expect from him. As Oliver worked with Delain since their debut record, a request at Charlotte Wessels’ address was made to complete the dynamic trio of Phantasma.
To introduce Charlotte Wessels to any connoisseur of symphonic metal would be like carrying coals to Newcastle - she is, after all, since 2005 the vocal figurehead of Dutch grandees Delain. It is therefore not only surprising, but also gratifying that Charlotte now even found some leisure time, to lend not only her voice to Phantasma, but also her debut novella ‘The Deviant Hearts - which was written especially for the project.
