Belphegor Cancels North American Tour

Due to a family emergency, Austria’s diabolical death / black metal band Belphegor has been forced to cancel the planned headlining North American “Voices From The Dark” tour with Rotting Christ, Beheaded, and Svart Crown.

The tour was scheduled to launch September 24th in New York City. Belphegor front man & guitarist Helmuth Lehner issued the following statement:

"After fighting many months now (the last 4 months have been terrible), my mother is at the end. Her body is decaying more and more and will not survive the next weeks (maybe days) or will fall in coma soon. I will not risk being away at this time."

None of the other bands have issued a statement yet, so it's unclear if they will continue the tour or if the entire trek is off with the headlining band cancelling.

Update: Rotting Christ has now confirmed the tour is fully cancelled, stating: "As Rotting Christ we have no other choice than supporting Helmuth's family situation and to express simultaneously our deep disappointment with the fact that we will not meet our Northern American Metal brothers as we promised them with this tour. We promise though that we will work our asses off to be back in your land ASAP so stay tuned for updates." More...

Mysticum Discovers "Planet Satan"

Norway's Mysticum will release second album "Planet Satan" on October 27th via Peaceville. "Planet Satan" follows Mysticum's debut release, 1996's "In the Streams of Inferno," and unifies the core trio of Herr General Cerastes, Svartravn and DrBest.

Peaceville Records comments, "There is truly no other band quite like Mysticum. A perfect concoction of cold, primitive black metal and forward-thinking ideas from an act unafraid to push boundaries, the hell of In the Streams of Inferno has had a lasting and profound impact on many since 1996, and so it is finally time to welcome the return of Mysticum with the long-overdue arrival of Planet Satan to infect the masses once more.

"A work of intense and otherworldly black metal power injected with Mysticum's strong cosmic, satanic and psychedelic overtones, Planet Satan welcomes Mysticum to the new millennium with full and unrelenting force, whilst retaining the core elements which made the Norwegian band a pioneering legend of industrial black metal. Both infernal and nihilistic, as well as apocalyptic in its scope and execution, Planet Satan is a new milestone for the genre in its sublime, chaotic ferocity. Primitive minor-chord riff patterns and tortured vocals mixed with the band's manic and often unconventional programmed drum beats makes this an eerily hypnotic work of the darkest order."

Planet Satan was recorded and mixed at Fias Co. Studios with producer Sverre Dæhli and mastered by Tom Kvålsvoll at Strype Audio in Oslo. More...

Hryre Signs With Code666

U.K. black metal band Hryre has signed a deal with Code666 Records. The band's musical focus is directed towards ancient heritage, individualism, and spirituality. Hryre also comments:

"In June 2014 we self-released our first demo recording titled 'Deaþ Þurhfaran Eftboren – Heretéam fram Anweald' translated as 'Death, Transition, Rebirth – The Devastation of Empires.' This was to be the first part of our 'Deaþ Þurhfaran Eftboren' trilogy concept which will be the sole focus for our first series of studio recordings with our good friend and producer Steven Royton-Smith.

"Since releasing our first demo recordings we have received a very positive response from our fan base and artists alike, which has then lead to us receiving offers from several record companies across Europe. One particular offer that stood out for us was the opportunity to work with the good people at Code666 who have previously worked with our friends Minethorn, The Axis of Perdition and The Prophecy along with the hugely influential Fen and Negura Bunget.

"We were very quick to reach an agreement and Code666 support our artistic vision so we are we are now in the process of completing our debut album with the working title 'Deaþ æt Þurhfaran' and will address the 'Death & Transition' concepts of our trilogy series and combining them as one single album with two distinctive parts 'Heretéam fram Anweald' commonly referred to as 'Devastation of Empires' and 'Hamcym æt se Eorþe' commonly referred to as 'Return to the Earth.'

"We hope to have our first album released around spring of 2015 with work commencing on our second album 'Eftboren' aka 'Rebirth' commencing very shortly after. We are looking forward to sharing this majestic journey with you and you can keep up to date with developments via our official social media pages.” More...

Haken Announces New EP "Restoration"

Following the release of Haken's critically acclaimed album "The Mountain" last year (see review here), plus plenty of touring and even three nominations at this year's Progressive Music Awards, the London-based progressive metallers are extremely pleased to announce the release of the digital-only 'Restoration' EP in the US on the 11th of November 2014 via Inside Out Music.

"Restoration" is comprised of three reworked and updated songs which originally appeared on their 2007/08 self-produced demo. The release was mixed & mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios.

Vocalist Ross Jennings explains: "Redoing a few of our favorite tracks from the demo is something we've talked about doing for ages and the fans have been asking for it constantly. We were also excited about working creatively with our new bassist Conner Green, so this seemed like the perfect way to welcome him aboard."

Guitarist Charlie Griffiths continues: "merely re-recording the demo songs would have felt musically redundant and dishonest, since three of us didn't play on the original recordings. The band's sound has evolved considerably in the last few years so we used the demo tracks as a starting point and gave ourselves free reign to re-imagine them and make them relevant to who we are today. These are now the definitive versions and we couldn't be happier with how they turned out."

The final track "Crystallised" is a no holds barred epic including guest "cameo" appearances by Pete Rinaldi (Headspace) and Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic/Flying Colors).

The track listing for the EP is:

1. Darkest Light (6:44)
2. Earthlings (7:52)
3. Crystallised (19:23) More...

"THE PROMETHEUS DIARIES - Opera Choir

Hi to all, now only a couple of weeks are left for us to enter in the BACKYARD STUDIOS of Kempten and proceed to the last album recordings with our faithful engineer and great friend SEBASTIAN ROEDER.

"The highlight of this new studio session will be the OPERA CHOIR recordings. The RHAPSODY composer LUCA TURILLI is actually completing all the choral arrangements and soon all those notes, from his CUBASE software, will turn into real and epic vocal melodies. Therefore we want to present you the two main amazing voices who will be with us for one long and hard week of tough recordings (the RHAPSODY choral parts are considered by all singers as really difficult due to the many changes of tonalities and for all the “crazy lines” composed by Luca himself) and that will lead such opera choir session, raising the cinematic level of our new album PROMETHEUS, SYMPHONIA IGNIS DIVINUS, to new artistic heights!

"Here they are, our long time friends and surely two of the best voices around: BRIDGET FOGLE and PREVIN MOORE! More...
