Stench Posts New Song Online

Stereogum today presents a brand new song from the Swedish death metal act Stench. The song "Road" comes from the band's upcoming full-length album "Venture" and is the second track to be officially released. Give it a listen below.

"Venture" will hit shops on the 26th of September in Europe and 7th of October in North America via Agonia Records. "Venture" features seven brand new songs reminiscent of horror infected old-school death metal. Jonathan Hultén (guitars) comments:

"Venture is a journey from the rawest, most monotonous cellar-darkness up to a desolate mountain top, from which you are thrown into the abyss below in a castanedian manner. If only but for a moment or even throughout the whole 38 minutes, be prepared to enter the other world. For four years we have been boiling down our material to the bone in pursuit of the essence of this type of music. Our conclusion is that the simple and repetitive riffing is holding the key, and is enhanced by more or less subtle choirs and sound textures. Primitive, yet atmospheric."

"Venture" was recorded in Necromorbus Studio (Watain, Portrait) in Stockholm, Sweden. It will be available in a digipack CD, digitally and in a 12" vinyl (black, limited picture disc and a special colour version). More...

Kirk Hammet And Chuck Billy Guest On Exodus Album

Bay Area thrash metal band Exodus today proudly announces the special guests appearing on "Blood In, Blood Out," the band’s tenth studio album due out on October 14th in North America.

Crafting an industrial sound bed on the intro to the album opener “Black 13” is electronic music producer Dan the Automator (Gorrilaz, Mike Patton).

“We ran into each other a couple times,” shares Exodus guitarist & songwriter Gary Holt. “I knew what I wanted to hear and I knew he could do it, and could do it that day. So we sent him a file with the drums and guitars we already had there and just told him to go crazy with it.”

Testament frontman Chuck Billy lends his signature roar to the track “BTK,” one of the first songs recorded by returning vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza, who recently said, “Chuck and I have known each other forever. We work really well together, we know each other really well. So if I’m doing my vocals and he’s there, I can trust him to go ‘No way Zet, doesn’t sound good like that. Do it like this,’ or ‘Yeah that’s killer.’ If he says it sounds killer, I know it is.”

Original Exodus guitarist Kirk Hammett (Metallica) also contributed a guest solo to “Salt The Wound.”

“This was actually the first time Kirk got to play on an official Exodus release,” states Holt. “He did the early demo, and then joined Metallica and didn’t do anything with us after that. So he was totally gung-ho about it. He came down and ripped out a bunch of takes and we picked the best one and then had a barbecue and drank beer.”

“It felt really casual, really cool – just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day,” Hammett confessed to RollingStone.com in July. More...

Mike Portnoy Talks Lack Of Regrets

Mike Portnoy - who split with Dream Theater in 2010 and has since worked with a variety of acts from Adrenaline Mob to The Winery Dogs - has conducted an interview with Rocksverige.se, in which he discusses wanting to collaborate with Mikael Akerfeldt and his lack of regrets over departing Dream Theater. Excerpts from the interview follow.

Rocksverige: Do you have any regrets in your life? Any musical regrets?

I actually have a tattoo on me that says 'no regrets' and I actually try to live by that. I find that there's lots of actions you take in your life and if it turns out to be something that brings a result that you didn't want or you weren't anticipating, it's not something you should regret, it's just simply something you should learn from.

There's a lot of things in my life that I've learned from and ultimately I don't regret them, because they got me to where I am right now. I'm as happy as I've ever been and as musically fulfilled as I've ever been. There's a quote that I love and I kind of used it in the song “Repentance” and it's “It's better to regret something you've done, than something you haven't done” and I absolutely love that!

I'm not gonna use the Dream Theater example because I can already see the headlines, so I won't say it! (laughs) I'll paraphrase like this, when I came to that crossroad four years ago, if I hadn't made the decisions I had, I probably would've spent the rest of my life wondering what if? “What if I left the band?” I think it's better to follow your heart and take the risk, than wonder what could´ve been.

Rocksverige: When are we gonna see you and Mikael Åkerfeldt do something together? You were supposed to be part of Storm Corrosion, but in the end you weren´t.

I am patiently waiting just as much as everybody else. I love Mikael and he is not only one of my dear friends, but he´s also one of my favorite musicians and artists. I have so much artistic respect for him and I just love what he does. Believe me, I'm waiting to do it myself. I would do it in a heartbeat. The door is always open for him and he knows that and every time we speak, I always end the conversation with “Call me when you're ready! Let's do this!” We'll see! It's probably one of the last remaining collaborations that I'd love to get off the Mike Portnoy check list.

Atriarch Reveals New Album

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Atriarch is a mesmerizing death/doom metal force encompassing haunting atmospheres and droning avalanches of ritualistic sludge.

After two records on Seventh Rule and Profound Lore, Atriarch make the band's Relapse debut with "An Unending Pathway." Relapse Records comments:

"Fusing death rock, doom, black metal, punk and psychedelic drone/noise, Atriarch immediately establish themselves as one of the most creative and compelling heavy music bands of the twenty-first century. Imagine Bauhaus as covered by Eyehategod, or Sisters of Mercy filtered through Neurosis, and you begin to get the picture of what Atriarch has achieved.

"Recorded at Type Foundry in Portland, Oregon, produced by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Eyehategod, Melvins et al) and the band, engine-eared and mixed by Anderson at Everything Hz, also in Portland, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege, An Unending Pathway offers up seven cataclysmic soundscapes to your deepest darkest nightmares.

"Once every few years a band comes along that takes the familiar and creates something wholly new. Atriarch has done just that with An Unending Pathway." More...

Alfahanne Working On New Album

Sweden’s self-styled Alfapokalyptic rockers from Alfahanne, whose debut full-length album was released earlier this year on Dark Essence Records, are back in the studio preparing for their next album.

With guest vocalists like Taake’s Hoest, Shining’s Niklas Kvarforth and Helheim’s V’gandr on the debut “Alfapokalyps," many are wondering what the band will pull out of its bag for this follow up, so guitarist Fredrik Sööberg took time out from working on the new material to give a hint about what to expect. Fredrik comments:

"Alfahanne has never been a band that does things the way others do them. So when it comes to the process of recording a follow up album to 'Alfapokalypse' we do it our way, regardless of expectations. We do not record demos or pre-productions. We just jam the shit out of our equipment until we have a song we feel we can perform properly on an album. Then we record it.

"As with 'Alfapokalyps' we record the material live and most often it is the first take that ends up on the album. We believe that if we can’t get it right straight away, who are we to call ourselves musicians?

“Alfahanne is not about perfection and order. Quite the opposite. We are about emotions and chaos. The process of writing new material is as always quite easy for us. After releasing our first album we had so much inspiration left in us that we just kept going. Always inspired by the darkness that lies within the depth of humanity and the rotten illusion of our society. The songs just pop up like a big middle finger in the face of the world. More...

On the subject of reaching this milestone, the band commented: "Oro was a particularly ambitious album for us, and the Magickal Mastery Tour was a great chance to revisit all of our favorite songs in front of really great crowds. Stampkase Working On New Material

Portuguese modern metal band Stampkase will be writing the successor to 2012's debut album "Mechanorganism," despite recent lineup changes. Stampkase comments:

"We are aware that many people think we are knocked down after André (vocals) and Bruno (guitars) left the band after ten years. It was indeed a big setback but this is actually something pretty trivial in the music realms.

"The most important thing is that we are still writing and looking forward to recruit the best musicians to replace them. Actually, this is something we've been working hard lately and it seems we can have white smoke on that soon. We will keep you updated. Besides, some songs have been written, once Nuno (bass player) is also able to play the guitars. So, we are sure some great riffs will turn up profit when all the band is together again."

Stampkase won the acclaimed Angra Rock Music Contest in 2005 and has shared the stage with bands like Mnemic, Exilia, Fear My Thoughts, Dagoba, and many more.

Heroes Of Vallentor Posts Album Trailer

Heroes Of Vallentor is gearing up to release "The Warriors Path Part I" via Inverse Music on October 10th, 2014. A teaser trailer can be found below, and the label also comments:

"It all started back in 2005 in Sweden with the two brothers Lars and Björn Sköldmark and they started to write songs together. In 2007 the two brothers had recruited a guitarist, Anders Nilsson, and a drummer, Erik Forsgren (Slowgate, Skeleton Birth) and they had their first gig in at a local festival. The band went into studio to record their first demo 'Lawgiver' in the beginning of 2008. During the next year the band lost both Anders and Erik, so they had to recruit some new members. Tommy Johansson (Reinxeed) joined the band as a guitarist but no drummer yet.

"The band had some new material and went into studio to record their second Demo 'Path to Victory' in 2009. Later into 2009 the band split up on the grounds on that Tommy Johansson and Björn had too many bands they were busy with. In about a half year after that Björn and Lars sat down and had a few beers and agreed that Heroes of Vallentor would unite again!

"Once again they needed new members so they started to search. They found Emil Ruthström-Sandin as a drummer and Stefan Norlin (Obliteration Imminent) as a lead guitarist. Now they were at full force once again. They decided to play and played a lot in Sweden for 1.5 years. During 2012 Stefan left the band, because of work, and they recruited Calle Sundberg (Charlie Shred, ex-Reinxeed) as a lead guitarist. The band wrote new songs and eventually they came in contact with Inverse Records to release their debut album 'The Warriors Path Part I' and it will be out October 10th 2014. Heroes of Vallentor longs for more raging battles and so the Quest begins!"

The album's track listing is:

01. The Quest
02. Warriors Path
03. The Questing Knights Vow
04. Lord Of Fire
05. Vengeance
06. Knights Of Death
07. Hawktalon
