Gang Green Streaming Track From Anthology
"Drop the Needle: Boston Punk Anthology" is a new compilation release of five old-school Boston punk, rock, and hardcore bands from the 1980's and 1990's. This collection will be released October 1st on Trev Records.
This release includes Gang Green's original 1985 version of the song "Let's Drink Some Beer." This rare studio recording has never been available on CD before and was co-written by Dicky Barrett from Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones fame. Today the song can be heard below, courtesy of AbsolutePunk.net.
Glen Stilphen, the man behind the anthology and Trev Records, commented" "The original version of 'Let's Drink Some Beer' was recorded in 1985 around the same time that the band recorded their most successful record, Another Wasted Night. The song was written by Dicky Barrett from The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Jimmy Kimmel Live! along with Chris Doherty while they were both in a band called The Cheapskates in Boston.
"After The Cheapskates broke up in 1984, Chris brought the song over to Gang Green rehearsal. With its beer theme and high tempo, it was a perfect fit for the band. The drummer during this era of Gang Green was Walter Gustafson, one of the best in Boston during the 1980's. He is largely responsible for the explosiveness of this track. His drum break in the middle flows perfectly and actually has proven to be what actually makes this song work. Later attempts to record this track never came close to the soul of this original recording due to these drumming differences. The best tracks ever recorded by Gang Green were recorded with Walter on drums." More...

Mayan Comments On New Album
Dutch symphonic death metal formation Mayan has entered the studio Sandlane to record a new, as-yet-untitled album, along with producer Joost van der Broek (Revamp, Stream of Passion). Nuclear Blast Records comments:
"The concept for the record critically concerns the current state of the world which is going totally insane. For example the explosive situation in Syria, governments who constantly accusing each other of lying, spying and using tricks to revoke their own population.
"The album will feature 10 or 11 tracks and is set for a release in January 2014 via Nuclear Blast. As a very special guest, Floor Jansen, vocalist of both Revamp and Nightwish will contribute her enchanting voice."
Vocalist Mark Jansen comments on the upcoming output: “I am very happy with the songs, the first album was one big (cool!) experiment but I have the feeling that the new material is more coherent and in balance. The philosophy of Mayan is to let things happen intuitively and be totally open minded for each other’s ideas. This resulted in music that I can't stop listening to myself!" More...

Jill Funerus Diagnosed With Heart Attack
Jill Funerus, bassist of Pennsylvania blackened death metal band Funerus, was admitted to Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pennsylvania yesterday after feeling unwell. Five hours later, via her facebook page, she was given the diagnosis that she had suffered a heart attack. She is currently resting.
Jill 'Funerus' Daily started out with her band Funerus back in the 90's with her husband John McEntee and drummer Sam Inzerra. McEntee is the venerable guitarist for Incantation and has also done some tours filling in for Immolation along with playing on that band's first demo and 7" EP for Mortician. In the late 80's he also played for the band Revenant. Funerus' last offering to date was 2011's "Reduced to Sludge" album.
