New York City quartet So Hideous (formerly So Hideous, My Love...) announces the October 22nd release of its debut full-length album, "Last Poem/First Light." The following press release was issued about the band:
"Like New York itself, a place of sewer depths and skyscraper heights, So Hideous combines utter extremes and makes them one. On Last Poem/First Light, the band redefines the term 'epic' with a violently beautiful sound, uniting the ugly and the majestic, the anguished and the grandiose.
"On one hand there are rabid vocals leading a torrent of blackened hardcore that evokes the intensity of 90s German legends Acme. On the other hand there are angelic melodies and lush atmospheres recalling The Cure's masterpiece, Disintegration, or the symphonic swells of a John Williams film score. These two sides, equally prominent, coexist in unison, strengthening each other and creating one supremely cathartic sound.
"Last Poem/First Light was recorded and mixed by Dean Baltulonis (Agnostic Front, Lucero) and mastered by Scott Hull (not the Pig Destroyer guitarist but the mastering engineer whose credits include Sting and Lou Reed).
"Six songs, 33 minutes, the album was crafted for maximum sonic impact - drums explode and rich tones haunt with crystal clarity. Most of the orchestral and choral sounds on the album were performed live in the studio by The First Light Orchestra, a New York-based group consisting of ten string players, a tuba, and four vocalists!"
The track listing is as follows:
2. Stabat Mater
3. My Light
5. Last Poem
6. Glory More...

"Blood Vaults -- The Blazing Gospel Of Heinrich Kramer (Cryptae Sanguinum -- Evangelium Flagrans Henrici Institoris)," the fourth LP from German enigma The Ruins of Beverast, is now playing in its entirety as album sees its conquering delivery this week via Ván Records.
Check out the album below, courtesy of Decibel Magazine. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Celebrating the ten-year mark since The Ruins of Beverast was founded, and following a four-year wait between LPs, Blood Vaults... is undeniably one of the year's most awe-inspiring creations associated with the extreme metal underworld. The record flows and rages with nearly an hour and twenty minutes of grandiose, dominating black metal infused with unforgiving doom metal overtones, cryptic soundscapes and passages, brilliant organ-enshrouded orchestration, choral arrangements and some of the finest blasting percussion one can track down anywhere; the signature attack of The Ruins of Beverast.
"As always, every element of the new album's precision percussion, axemanship and synth-laden atmospheres over its nine winding movements was fully conceived and executed by Meilenwald, the devastating drummer and one of the chief songwriters for now defunct legion Nagelfar, in addition to drummer for Truppensturm, Verdunkeln and more. The LP's striking cover art by Axell Hermann (Asphynx, Grave, Samael, Sodom) boldly portrays the religious depravity and brilliant decay of the album's lyrical tone.
"'Blood Vaults -- The Blazing Gospel Of Heinrich Kramer (Cryptae Sanguinum -- Evangelium Flagrans Henrici Institoris' is available now via CD digibook, gatefold 2xLP, a lavish 2xLP pressing and digital once again through the act's direct cooperation with the cult label Ván Records (Nagelfar, The Devil's Blood, Urfaust, Year of the Goat) as with the three previous TROB LP's." As debut full-length "To Sail Black Waters" nears release in the first week of October, today Oakland-based doom sextet Secrets of the Sky proudly unveils a new video for "Decline."
Check out the video below courtesy of MetalInjection.net. The following press release was also issued:
"Having sought out DIY director and filmmaker Andrew Nethery (Melvins, Kyuss Lives, Six Feet Under, Dead Meadow, Death By Stereo) to guide and capture their vision, Secrets of the Sky traveled to the Southern end of their home state and set up camp for several days. The vibrant video traverses through an extensive but abstract storyline shot in a variety of locations, as well as brilliant performance footage of the band filmed at Unit A Recording Studio, in Palm Springs, California. Through the years, the studio walls have recorded rock legends such as Queens of the Stone Age, Fu Manchu, and many more. The newest owner, Robbie Waldman, continues to operate it as a full recording studio, having recently recorded Brian Setszer, Karma to Burn, John Garcia and the list goes on."
The band comments: "We shot the video with director Andrew Nethery in the Coachella Valley; basically in the middle of the desert near Palm Springs. It's about a ten-hour drive from the Bay Area, but it was a no-brainer to go with Andrew based on the quality of his previous work for bands. There are definitely thematic conclusions to be drawn and an overall message to be had, but we didn't want to just give it away... choosing rather to keep it abstract and allow the viewer to decide what it means for themselves. The video is edited down for time and continuity reasons from the original 12 minute version which appears on the album." More...

Finnish metal act Sonata Arctica posted a new music video for the track "Alone in Heaven."
The song appears on the band's latest release "Stones Grow Her Name," which was issued last year via Nuclear Blast Records (see review here).
Comments vocalist Tony Kakko: "'Alone In Heaven' got sparked lyrically after I had suffered few personal losses in relatively short period of time. Those will make you think about a possibility of after life and such things. At least for me it was like that. I will always remember those passed on thru this song every time we play it. I was initially a little hesitant whether or not this is a suitable track for SONATA, being rather 'hard/soft rockish.' But the guys fell in love with it immediately and it fell right in on the quite mellow mooded 'Stones Grow Her Name' album.
"I think it's a nice emotional rock song with some extremely beautiful parts to it. It has become a little bit of a fan favorite and crowd pleaser, being quite approachable and straight forward arrangement wise. Very live friendly track we'll surely play also in the future. The video is like the song, fairly simple and ...soft. Enjoy."

The band commented on the new album: "So finally, we're back! A journey that began some five years ago has finally come to the end of the line and we're extremely proud to uncover the new Persuader album entitled "The Fiction Maze". A lot of hard work was put into creating the perfect mix of everything we've done so far, expanded on the Persuader sound while keeping the core that is the band; heavy riffing, strong melodies, pounding rhythms and soaring vocals. Combined with a crushing production courtesy of mixer extraordinaire Ronnie Björnström [Aeon, Apostasy, Bone Gnawer] this turned out to be quite a beast of an album, the true pinnacle of our career so far. The time has come, now join us through the fiction maze!"

Internationally respected, domestically loved, and locally interesting (“Look at all these black-shirted people walking into this Einstein Bagel Co!”), the ProgPower USA festival returned to its frequent home at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia this past weekend for its fourteenth year of bringing quality metal to the stateside masses.
Through the hallowed gates (err… glass and metal doors) of the venue, almost anything was possible on the days of September 5-7. To some, it was an ocean of opportunity or a place to be reborn in metal. To others, a place to spend endless nights with the masters of the world themselves. To most of the 1,000+ attendees, it was where they went to reach within, feel alive, and leave with a sense of pride -- nobody was wondering “Why am I here?,” even if it was only the 1st chapter of their ProgPower story. (For this writer, the festival was also a chance to write 9 song/album titles from the bands that would be performing at the show into this second paragraph about the show. Because it sounded really cool.)
As previously detailed, the festival brought 5 bands to the states for the first time and 16 in total throughout the three days, with an extra 2 added to that in a separate Wednesday show. When I had arrived on Friday, the ProgPower elite who had come both days prior to it were feeling quite at ease and even had a sort of comfortable glow about them. I later learned that this was due in part to warm hangovers, but mostly due the awesomeness of the concerts on the days leading up to Friday, which were written about in part by Metal Underground admin CROMCarl. This, however, is the record of my time at this year's crazy heavy wonderland. More...
