Portugal's aNgreNOST has signed a multi-album contract with Aural Music imprint Code666. The band's debut album “Planet Muscaria” is due for release at the end of the month. Code666 also comments:
"A genuine and desperate scream of venomous un-life, sucked into a very bad trip to the Gates of Hell and beyond. aNgreNOST was formed in 1995 by Pursan and Ainvar (Sirius). The only release by the band was the EP 'Evil,' released on MCD by Andromeda Creations (Portugal) in 1997, which was very well received by the public. After this release, in 1998, due to all-kind of extreme auto-destructive behaviors, Pursan collapses and leaves the band. 12 years later Pursan re-activates aNgreNOST, this time without Ainvar and with 2 new members: Erdsaf and E. (Wavelength:Satan).
"The concept of aNgreNOST and Planet Muscaria are entwined. It is the raw testimony of someone who took the human condition to its most extreme state: dark, miserable self-destructive… and survived. Intravenous overdoses, psychotic outbreaks, NDEs and bad trips. Detox clinics, psychiatric asylums, hospitals and police stations. Addiction and extreme abuse of hard drugs and hallucinogens. aNgreNOST is not about fantasies or poetry. It’s real, and Planet Muscaria is the mirror of these experiences. Black metal in its most pure and genuine form." More...

Cult of Erinyes mainman Corvus recently declared: “Drawing the energy from the darkest thoughts of its creators, Cult of Erinyes intends to evolve in the realms of Black Metal while pushing its limits a bit further. Spawned with the intention to distil artistic audacity into respected traditions, Cult of Erinyes belongs to the forbidden experience, where music is merely a symptom of a higher truth. Ritualistic hymns, vicious and twisted vocals, furious rhythmics and ambient digressions are only a few weapons which make Cult of Erinyes a band to be reckoned with.” More...

Sacramento technical death metal legion Alterbeast is pleased to announce a union with Unique Leader Records. The label comments:
"Formed in 2011 under the working title Gary Busey Amber Alert (GBAA), Alterbeast combines influences from the likes of The Black Dahlia Murder, Necrophagist and Spawn of Possession with numerous classic death metal acts like Dissection and Morbid Angel into an infuriated expulsion of animosity.
"After a year of dedicated song-crafting, Alterbeast unleashed their first demo in 2012 and played countless shows opening for Deicide, Dying Fetus, Testament, Revocation, Exhumed, Severed Savior and many others. Their crushing live assaults combined with a DIY ethos quickly earned them a revered place within the local death metal community.
"Earlier this year, Alterbeast entered Augmented Audio at Sound Temple Studios to record their debut. Titled Immortal, the record was engineered by former The Black Dahlia Murder bassist Ryan 'Bart' Williams. The band later enlisted Gabe Seeber (The Kennedy Veil) to the drum stool, returned to the studio - this time at Oakland's Castle Ultimate with engineer Zack Ohren (Light This City, All Shall Perish, First Blood, Cattle Decapitation, Warbringer et al) -- to record drums, mix and master the album.
"Slated for release in early 2014 via Unique Leader, Immortal will feature eight tracks of brutal, uncompromising death metal mastery. Further Alterbeast developments to be announced in the coming weeks. Stay tuned." More...

Fortunately wasn't that long when René Ortiz (Guitar) and Orlando Ezquerra (Drums) came to the band.
"They have plenty experience and they are very closed to the band's core and we all felt that when we had the first rehearsal, we all realized that there was a great chemistry in between all of us. We would like to wish to Timmy & Martin the best of luck on all their future endeavors. In the other hand we would like to welcome to our new members."

Emmure - which is easily the favorite band of all Metalunderground.com readers after Avenged Sevenfold - plans to enter the studio later this year.
The band's sixth full-length album for Victory Records will be released Spring 2014 and follows the previous "Slave To The Game" album (reviewed here). The real question of course, is whether any tracks this time around will be able to surpass the lyrical brilliance of the infamous "Drug Dealer Friend."
Emmure will be closing out 2013 by headlining the Never Say Die Tour in Europe (October 4th to 26th) and then a full U.S. tour (October 29th to November 22nd) alongside Asking Alexandria, Sevendust, All That Remains, and For Today.
Guitarist and founding member Jesse Ketive stated, “We couldn’t be happier to announce that following Never Say Die! and the Asking Alexandria Tour we will be heading into the studio to work on the new album which is aimed for a Spring release! We have been working hard in between our rigorous world touring schedule this past year and a half and we can’t wait to unveil new material. We have resigned to Victory Records and there will be a lot of new things developing for EMMURE through the end of the year. Thank you for your constant support through the years and we promise to deliver one of the best Emmure records to date. See you on tour.” More...
South Florida heavy metal outfit Forty Winters will kick off its headlining "The Blackout Tour" tonight in August, GA with support from A Fight For Life, After Me The Flood (9/25-10/21) and Fero Lux (9/18-9/20).
The band has updated its routing for the run, which will wrap up in late October. A list of confirmed dates can be seen below.
"Touring, in general, is something we get super stoked about - the experience overall is what we look forward to," said vocalist, Xavier Vicuna. "Just getting in the van and going...Also, In N Out Burger. After the headliner we should be hitting up the East Coast to visit some familiar hot spots and then trek it over to Central America for some Costa Rica and Panama dates. A new video may surface by the end of the year as well. Keep those eyes peeled!"
The band recently recorded three new songs with Charles J. Wall and Phil Pluskota at Sonic Assault Studios in Cape Coral, Fla. (Betraying The Martyrs, Abiotic, King Conquer).
"We really tried to warp our roots and influences into a newer, more aggressive approach," added Vicuna. "We've grooved, we've jammed and we've dropped it, but the goal has always been to evolve. The new stuff is pretty evil and a lot more genuine; we really focused on being ourselves and doing what felt natural. It's gonna be pretty raw - a lot of slamming and thrashing." More...

Epic doom metal band Below is currently holed up at Sonic Train Studios in Sweden with none other than Andy La Rocque (King Diamond) recording the band's Metal Blade Records debut.
Below hails from Sweden features influences from late Black Sabbath, Candlemass, and King Diamond, so going with Andy La Rocque as the producer was a clear choice for the group. The band offered up the following update:

We are currently finished recording the drums, the bass and the main guitars, and will start with the vocals this weekend. It sounds amazing already. British heavy metal legends Saxon have produced a series of alternative takes on classic favorites to herald a new entry to the Saxonian Institute of Metal. The following statement was issued about the coming "Unplugged and Strung Up" release:
"There is always feral beauty in a raging beast…and with 'Unplugged And Strung Up,' Saxon's selection of unique, fresh and adventurous interpretations of material previously heard only with raw heavy metal thunder, the point is triumphantly underscored.
"Unplugged And Strung Up reveals layers and pieces previously dormant in many of the 14 classic Saxon songs chosen for this makeover, thanks to some ear-catching new arrangements and mixes. Recorded, mixed and mastered with Andy Sneap in Derbyshire, U.K. earlier this year, Unplugged And Strung Up contains re-evaluated, re-worked and re-energized versions of The Eagle Has Landed and Crusader by introducing orchestral dynamics to offer added dimension. Frozen Rainbow, from the band's 1979 debut, gets a stunning acoustic reprisal which transports it into a power ballad to be proud of, while Red Star Falling soars and sweeps the emotions with its orchestral arranged dovetail.
"As if this reinvention wasn't enough, Saxon super fans and collectors can purchase a digipak version of the release which will include 2002's storming set of full-volume, pedal-to-the-metal re-recorded hits Heavy Metal Thunder. Featuring staple Saxon stormers such as Motorcycle Man, Strong Arm Of The Law, and Dallas 1pm, it is a quintessential part of any collection. More...
Cannibal Corpse will be wrapping up the band's 25th anniversary celebrations for 2013 with a pair of shows in Florida, which has served as the band's base of operations since relocating to Tampa from Buffalo, NY in 1994.
The shows are scheduled for November 29th in Ft. Lauderdale, FL at the Culture Room and November 30th in Tampa, FL at the Brass Mug.
Founding member and bassist Alex Webster comments: "We are very excited to be doing these shows in Florida this November. We formed the band in the first week of December back in 1988 so these shows will be happening almost exactly 25 years after our formation. It will be great to celebrate our band's anniversary in the state that helped put death metal on the map. Also, we are very happy to be able play Ft. Lauderdale to make up for the show we missed there in June. And I think fans in both cities will be happy when they see the ticket price for these shows!"

Rivers of Nihil has unveiled the second track from upcoming album, "The Conscious Seed of Light."
The brand new song, "Mechanical Trees," can be heard below thanks to NoCleanSinging.com.
Bassist Adam Biggs comments on the track: "The lyrics paint a bleak picture of humanity's future, wherein the environment has become so damaged that we are forced to rely on machines to create breathable oxygen for most living creatures. Eventually, this way of life becomes too much for Earth's dwindling human population, so the powers that be lace the machines with hallucinogenic substances to ease the pain of death. While that seems bleak, this song is actually a lot of fun to play live. It contains some of the more difficult riffs on the record, while also maintaining a good deal of atmosphere."
Rivers of Nihil, which also features vocalist Jake Dieffenbach, guitarists Jon Kunz and Brody Uttley, and drummer Ron Nelson, has added to the band's Fall touring schedule. In October, fans will be able to see Rivers of Nihil touring with Beneath the Massacre, Rings of Saturn, and Legion throughout the east coast. Confirmed dates can be seen below.
