Connecticut atmospheric doom metal miscreants Sea of Bones are pleased to soil the masses with their latest slab of slow motion desolation in the form of "The Earth Wants Us Dead," the band's first offering in six years.
Recorded with guitarist Tom Mucherino and longtime friend David Lutz at a secret underground location (aka Tom's cellar) and mastered by Mell Dettmer (Earth, Kayo Dot, Thou), "The Earth Wants Us Dead" heaves forth a cataclysmic wall of soul-rumbling distortion.
Elaborates the band, "This album is more than just music to us, it is a testament to our friendship and the chemistry we have with each other. This album was made for the three of us but we hope you all will enjoy it as much as we do."
"The Earth Wants Us Dead" will be unleashed later this year. Further info, including live assaults, to be announced in the weeks to follow. In the meantime, sear your ears to the sound of album opener, "The Stone The Slave And The Architect" in the player below. The full track listing is:

Canadian act Abaddon has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's guitarist:

"We wish Evan nothing but good things for his future and still plan to hang out with him as much as we can. Evan's last show will be October 4th in Vancouver at the Capri Hall, please come out and help us have a proper farewell show for him!
"Lastly, we wanna thank everybody for the support we've gotten this past year as a band. Abaddon is a train that is not ready to slow down and we're more than ready to face any other challenges the next year will bring us.
"Dream, Lead & Destroy. Sincerely: Jordan, Tom, Aaron, Evan and Trevor." More...

A week after releasing the band's first official video for "Going Down," Spider Rockets will hit the road with Saliva in the midwest and the south.
"We haven't been on the road since our runs with Trapt earlier this spring," admits lead singer, Helena Cos; "...but we haven't visited the south in at least a couple of years! So that, along with Saliva being cool enough to share the stage with us is pretty awesome."
Spider Rockets has a new stage show consisting of various backdrops, a smoldering rocket ship, probing searchlight, whips, megaphone, and a mannequin head.
"The rocket ship will be a work in progress, hopefully we won't need to abort any missions!" jokes John Nap, the band's guitarist. "But the real challenge as an opening band has been coming up with staging that won't interfere with the headliner's space; one that is modular enough to adjust from venue to venue, but that also packs light... And I believe we've found it." John refers to a series of self-standing vertical, retractable banners or scrims (neither, really) that can be extended, shortened, and rearranged depending on the size and configuration of the venue's stage. Bassist, Greg Manning, adds: "We just hope we don't end up with a 'Stone Henge' situation!" More...
Karl Simon of U.S. doom metal act The Gates of Slumber has posted the following message online at the Hellride Music Forum about the band calling it quits:
"Some of you may have noticed that Jason quit The Gates of Slumber this past week.
"So, yeah. it's done. I always said I'd never go on doing TGoS without Jason, I don't think anyone ever really believed it, but yeah, it's done. I did start the band, but McCash has been my best friend for the last 20 years, the last 10 in this damn band. He wrote amazing music and was a killer person to be around on the road.
"Somewhere about 3 years back shit started to change, and it's ended with him quitting. I'm sure he needs the break, probably from me... I'm starting to *kind of* get the hint.
"So yeah. It's done."
Although there hasn't been an official announcement from any of the bands involved, The Gates of Slumber's tour with Church of Misery is presumably cancelled. More...

"This band has one aim, and one aim only: to revive the old black/thrash spirit of the early/mid 1980s of the mighty Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Sodom, and Voivod... pure diabolical metal music! The first fruits of this unholy union shall be a 4-way split shared with other leading bands from the Greek black metal scene, and to be soon followed by Principality of Hell's debut album. Milwaukee crossover marauders Enabler now confirm the imminent release of the "Flies" EP, the newest swarm of embittered and volatile metallic punk/hardcore anthems to pour forth from The Beer City outfit.
The material on "Flies" was thrown down over two spur-of-the-moment sessions in Minneapolis and Australia earlier this year, and following a recent mastering job by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (From Ashes Rise, Integrity, Tragedy, All Pigs Must Die), these random recordings have culminated into an upcoming joint assault between Enabler and The Earsplit Compound.
"The Flies EP was such an unplanned and fun thing to put together," explains Enabler's founding guitarist/vocalist Jeff Lohrber. "We recorded three of the tracks while holed-up in Minneapolis this past April, with the other three tracks being recorded during an off-day of our Australian tour in Sydney in July. We were able to track five new songs altogether, in addition to finally recording our cover of Sepultura's 'Arise' with vocal help from our tourmates in Urns. The initial plan was to self-release this digitally, but when I brought it up with Dave/Earsplit he offered to release it as the first release under this awesome new label. This is a release that I did not see happening this year at all, and yet here it is! We will still be releasing this digitally as a pay-what-you-want download, with all profits helping us fund our next record, but if you're like me, you're gonna want something to hold in your hands." Chicago's Dope has released a video teaser showcasing the brand new track titled "Drug Music" to be featured on the band's 6th self-produced LP titled "Blood Money." The album is scheduled for release in March of 2014.
Speaking publicly for the first time in four years, founder and frontman Edsel Dope weighs in what fans can expect:
"It sounds like Dope. But it's next level. It's Dope in 2014. With every record, the chemistry changes, the band changes and the sound expands. I'm really happy with how it's turning out. It's heavy, it's pointed, it's punk, pissed off, angry, electronic, noisy, melodic and metal. It picks up where 'No Regrets' left off and yet somehow has a lot of the punk / industrial energy of the early Felons and Revolutionaries stuff. It's Dope. And like all Dope, it's best when played extremely loud and while traveling at dangerously high speeds. We'll be putting out more of these teaser clips as we get closer to 2014."
Dope is returning after a four year hiatus that concluded after touring alongside Black Label Society & Sevendust following the release of the bands 5th album "No Regrets."
"Truth is, after 13 years of non-stop recording and touring with Dope, I was burnt and I just needed a break from it all," says Edsel. He continues, "I'm ready to go now! I’m excited to get out there and re-connect with the fans and with that energy and feeling of being on tour. We are gonna do a month worth of shows and lose our fuckin' minds before I slide back into the studio and put the finishing touches on the new album." More...
