"Covering has a long tradition within the metal-scene but bands mostly pay tribute to their idols or just cover some classic tunes. The Northern German melodic death / black metal-outfit Craving made it a little different. The guys took the song 'Only Teardrops' by Emmelie De Forest who won this year’s European Songcontest and put their own unique stamp on it. The result is unmistakably a Craving-song which is now available as a video!"

BrooklynVegan states: "As you might expect from Ellis' resume, Netherlands is a pretty strange band. They play gritty, high-energy punk/metal, anchored by a huge distorted synth bass tone; the effect is something like Future of the Left banging out one of Torche's more rambunctious tunes." More...
Chicago trio Czar returns with the first slice of the band's second album, "No One Is Alone If No One Is Alive," now streaming in the player below via Revolver Magazine. The following press release was also issued about the song:
"The track, 'Aortic Flower,' is a crusher, marrying the triumphant metal edge of Heartwork-era Carcass with a majestic rock power in line with O.G. post-hardcore greats like Quicksand.
"Czar made big waves in the underground with the late 2011 release of its debut, Vertical Mass Grave. The album earned praise from the likes of Terrorizer Magazine, who hailed the band for 'seamlessly fusing a Mastodon-sized slab of riffage and the slightly more clinical approach inherent with death metal' while also 'firmly reaching to more experimental post-metal realms.' Following that release, the band toured the US as main support for Killing Joke.
"Like its predecessor, sophomore album No One Is Alone If No One Is Alive was recorded by former Hum frontman Matt Talbott. Uniting melody, dissonance, polyrhythms, and groove, Czar continues to push its own limits, solidify its unique sound, and establish itself as a true force in the metal scene."
Czar kicks off its next touring cycle by opening for the mighty Godflesh, October 22nd at Metro in Chicago. More...
Cult of Fire today reveals a new, as-yet-unnamed track from the band's forthcoming album for Iron Bonehead Productions. Check it out below. The following press release was issued about the band:
"From the days of Root and Master's Hammer on to Maniac Butcher and Dark Storm and more recently Triumph, Genus and Death Karma, the Czech Republic has long been fertile ground for the blackest of metals.
"With the release of their Triumvirát debut last year, Cult of Fire exploded onto the scene as a new contender well versed in the olden ways. Now, with their second album, Cult of Fire stand poised to drag those Olden Ways into a perversely brighter/darker future. On this album, the sound is undeniably 'black metal' by definition, but Cult of Fire shred the rulebook in favor of ancient, arcane texts, speaking in forbidden tongues that dazzle with a certain kaleidoscopic flavor/fervor.
"Indeed, Cult of Fire is aptly named, as the attack encompasses coruscating gnarliness and winding, grinding violence, yet their grasp of dynamics spans a dizzying array of songcrafts, often simmering into melody-infused mysticism and patient, doomed-out excursions: not so much speaking a different language from black metal, but speaking one that's an entirely unique dialect." This Autumn, Sensory Records will release the energetic and unrestrained nine-track opus entitled "The Colourless Sunrise" -- the maiden full-length album from Oxford, England's Prospekt -- now locked down for an October 22nd street date.
Today Sea Of Tranquilly is hosting a listen to the album's opening track, "A Desolate Kingdom," which can be heard in the player below. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"The recently completed The Colourless Sunrise was recorded by the band and then mixed by world renowned producer Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Daylight Dies, Amon Amarth, Symphony X) and Adam 'Nolly' Getgood (of Periphery), and mastered by Borgen as well. Surging beyond the one-hour mark, the huge The Colourless Sunrise recording builds upon the solid foundation Prospekt constructed on their self-titled 2011-released debut EP, expanding their spires of vibrant, modern take on their respective genre to much greater heights.
"Influenced by bands such as Dream Theater, Symphony X, Opeth and Circus Maximus, as well as film scores and fusion, Prospekt combines the fierce technicality of progressive metal with the symphonic elements of contemporary prog. From brutal riffs coupled with odd time-signatures, to majestic melodies, the principle of the band's music is to create an intelligent and atmospheric mix of melodic, modern progressive metal. Incorporating passionate higher ranged vocals, frenetic guitar work, haunting orchestration and solid grooves, every composition remains both interesting and original. The album's cover art was created by Mattias Noren / ProgArt Media (Into Eternity, Evergrey, Wolverine, etc.)." More...
