The Ocean Posts DVD Clip

Revolver Magazine is pleased to reveal an excerpt from The Ocean's "Pelagial" DVD. Check it out below.

The dramatic DVD, which is being screened as live video projections during the band's current "Pelagial" world tour, is a conceptual movie by Craig Murray, known for his work with Nine Inch Nails, Converge, and others. This movie, which offers up a year's worth of meticulous shooting, cutting and editing, visualizes the journey into the depths and completes the holistic music and visual art project that defines the "Pelagial" concept.

The film is inundated with spectacular oceanic footage, parts of which The Ocean's own Robin Staps, an avid scuba diver, filmed himself in Australia. In addition, "Pelagial" features a female protagonist (who ironically goes by the name of "Arielle" in real life). The girl is seen enduring various stages of fear, lust, terror, pain and joy, as she sinks towards the inscrutable depths of the Hadopelagic zone at the end of the album, and metaphorically, deeper and deeper into the depths of her own psyche.

Comments Robin Staps: "The album concept follows two separate but related strains: One is the obvious journey from the surface towards the depths of the sea, crossing the five Pelagial depth zones. The second one is loosely based on Andrey Tarkowsky's movie Stalker, which is also a journey through zones, but an inward journey, form the surface into the depths of the human psyche, towards the origins of our wishes and desires. This is the central theme that the lyrics of the album are orbiting around. The Pelagial movie takes up themes from and makes reference to both of these conceptual strains, and fuses them together, in an abstract, artistic way." More...

Sylosis Seeking Fan Support After Accident

After being in a car accident while on tour, Sylosis has now posted the following message online about seeking fan support for the costs of the damage:

"Hey guys. Josh here again and again wanting to thank everyone for their support these past few days. It's been overwhelming.

"We're really feeling it pretty hard today and are looking like a bunch of slow, old men when we walk. Aside from the physical issues that prevent us from continuing on with the tour it has also put us in thousands of pounds worth of debt due to losing the deposit (and now paying extra) on the RV, damaged trailer, booking new flights home, equipment damage and we're now incurring all kinds of transport/accommodation costs as we make our journey home.

"The last thing we want is for people to think we're now cashing in on the accident and taking advantage of people's sympathy, but we need some help right now so we've just released two exclusive tshirts where all the profits will go towards clearing our debts. Both of the shirts are available as a pre-order.

"One is the tour tshirt (now with the majority of the dates cancelled) and the other is a brand new design we were waiting to release when we launch all our new designs in the a few months time. We like the idea of you guys helping us and actually getting something for your money but we will also accept paypal donations of any kind to: sylosis@hotmail.com.

"I can't stress enough that we do not intend to exploit the situation. Thanks to all of you guys and the entire metal community right now for showing us so much support these past few days." More...

East Of The Wall Reveals Album Release

New Jersey-based progressive metal unit East of the Wall will be releasing fourth full-length, "Redaction Artifacts," on October 29th, once again through Translation Loss Records. The following press release was issued about the ablum:

"East of the Wall's first record since the departure of bassist Brett Bamberger and guitarist Kevin Conway sees the band's style expanding into a newer archetype, the sound of Redaction Artifacts surging with a more direct and driving core while the mellower and melodious atmospheres of the songwriting sound more vibrant and cohesive than ever.

"In Conway and Bamberger's place, the band's remaining members -- Chris Alfano, who moved from guitar/vocals to bass/vocals, guitarist/vocalist Matt Lupo, and drummer Seth Rheam -- have added Ray Suhy, a jaw-dropping guitar shredder from Portland, Maine, as well as guitarist/vocalist Greg Kuter, who adds the strongest melodic vocal presence the band has yet had.

"Redaction Artifacts is the densest East of the Wall record to date, with eleven tracks of intricately conceived genre jumping metal. The album was tracked by Eric Rachel (Municipal Waste, God Forbid, Burnt By The Sun, Skid Row) at Trax East, and Todd Hutchinsen (Zud, The Baltic Sea) at Acadia Recording, and mixed by Eric Rachel at Trax East. Antropofago Recruits Gorod Guitarist

France's Antropofago (not to be confused with Antropofagus) has boasted guitar-crafting wizard Hugo Mermet (maker of custom guitars for Gorod, Insain and many more) in its ranks for most of the band's existence.

However, it has always been understood that a time might come where Mermet's business would hinder his ability to be a full-time contributor to Antropofago. That time came recently when the band was at work on upcoming full-length album, "Aera Dementiae."

Thus, a mutual decision was made to find a suitable replacement once the recording process was finished.

That replacement was quickly found in Gorod guitarist Nicolas Alberny. With Antropofago's fetish for musicianship and guitar technique, it was no surprise that a guitarist of Alberny's caliber would answer the band's call. Having already recorded some guest parts for the new album, Alberny knew what to expect once he joined the fold. More...

Javelin To Release Debut Full Length Album

German progressive/power metal act Javelin will release its debut full length album "Fragments Of The Inner Shadow" on October 25th, 2013 via Pure Underground Records (a division of Pure Steel). The band was formed in 1982 and released two EP releases: "Seasons of Grey" in 1997 and "Dark Broken Land" in 2009. The title tracks for both were re-recorded for the debut full length.

"Fragments Of The Inner Shadow" features one hour of music featuring high powerful vocals, a perfect blend of European and US traditions. Harmonic and neatly played twin-leads in the 80's tradition, driving and precise double-bass parts, anthem-like catchy choruses and some progressive touches are a perfect frame for the twelve transparent and enthusiastic songs. But there are also quiet parts, like the half-ballad "Healing", which blends naturally and effortlessly into the overall picture without being kitschy.

The track list is:

1. Help Us
2. The Arrival
3. The Cenotaph
4. Birth of a plague
5. Down
6. Healing
7. Falling
8. Lie to me
9. Captured under sand
