Continuing a tradition that has spanned 8 years, August Burns Red is excited to announce plans for the group's annual hometown Christmas show this coming December 15th, 2013 in Lancaster, PA.
Following a string of sell-outs in August Burns Red's hometown market, this year sees ABR move into the spacious Lancaster County Convention Center for a massive show that caps off the band’s six week North American tour and combines it with a date on the headlining run of Every Time I Die. Supporting the two acts will be Defeater, Letlive, Code Orange Kids, One Year Later, and The Road To Milestone.
"In addition to holiday releases such as singles and last year’s Sleddin’ Hill, we’ve long had a tradition of ending the year with our annual Christmas show in Lancaster, PA,” explains guitarist JB Brubaker. “This year we are doing it a bit earlier than usual, and we're joining forces with the Every Time I Die tour to make this the biggest line up we've ever had and taking the show to the Lancaster County Convention Center in downtown Lancaster. It will be the last date of our US headline tour, and a festive way to wrap up the tour."
The show will mark the band’s final performance for 2013, a momentous year that included a Billboard Top 10 debut for latest album, "Rescue & Restore," a mainstage spot on Warped Tour, and a forthcoming DVD chronicling the entire 18-month touring cycle behind the band’s breakout 2011 album "Leveler," entitled "Foreign & Familiar."
Mastodon has checked in with the following announcement about gearing up to record a new full-length album:
"Mastodon has been busy jamming everyday writing and arranging the next studio album. We have quite a few songs and ideas that are taking some time to nail down what we think will make it to the next full length. There will be no more touring this year, we will hit the studio in November to hopefully finish by the end of year."
This coming album will follow previous full-length "The Hunter" (reviewed here). Further details will be announced as they are made available.
Every week metal bands from across the globe check in with Metalunderground.com to share their favorite stories from live shows. Today vocalist Nick Holmes of U.K. outfit Paradise Lost offers up this tale of an end-of-tour prank gone wrong:
On the last show of a tour, it’s “customary” for headline bands to play tricks on support acts, and the other way round—if you get along that is! Just small pranks, lowering small stonehenges from the ceiling, walking on stage dressed as a “zombie”—mostly unfunny stuff like that. But unaware of my absolute hatred for fish and seafood in general, our Swedish support band decided to play one of the worst pranks imaginable.
Back in the day, Paradise Lost used to use two industrial high velocity fans on either side of the stage to blow dry ice in the right direction to coordinate with the light show, etc., and this is where the “fun” started...Most people reading this won’t know about the northern Swedish delicacy “Surströmming.” It’s fermented herring, basically “tinned rotten fish,” and it’s hard to put into words just how bad this stuff smells!
For a “great” end of tour prank, the bass player from said Swedish support band decided it would be funny to pour the oil from a tin of “Surströmming” onto one of our industrial fans! All hell broke loose! Once the smell hit me, I began to projectile vomit, and couldn’t stop vomiting. My face turned as red as a strawberry, and my eyes nearly popped out. It was impossible to continue, and we had to cancel the concert and flee the stage after only four songs! Meanwhile, the whole room was in chaos. I have had the misfortune of being at a concert where tear gas was expelled, and the crowd reaction was pretty similar to this - combined with gagging!
Needless to say, the backstage atmosphere turned rather sour! Also, since the incident, I have it on good authority that the entire venue smelled like “Davey Jones’ Locker” for many months to follow.
In addition to last year's "Tragic Idol" full-length (reviewed here), Paradise Lost will be releasing a collection titled "Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarities)" on October 21st in Europe (digitally on October 29th in North America). Full details can be found at this location.
Check back in again next Tuesday as we continue to share more band stories from live metal shows.

"We are very pleased to be on a Norwegian label for the first time and especially on Indie Recordings! There is no place like home! We think the unique position they have in both Norway and internationally will take us a step further being a Norwegian band singing in Norwegian while having both a Norwegian and an international fan-base."
“Djevelsvart” is Glittertind’s third full-length album in 12 years, and the first album with a full band. The track listing is as follows:

After a week and over 35,000 signatures, your Antarctic overlords finally have officially reacted to the petition started by Jeff Cantrell of Morehead, Kentucky on Change.org to have GWAR play the Super Bowl Halftime Show. The petition can be signed at this location.
"It has long been the joy of GWAR to submit the human race to any number of hideous tortures, and I can't think of anything more horrible than you having to watch acts like The Black-Eyed Peas and Bruno Mars perform. So the temptation to ignore this is great! But then you start thinking about all of the people that who have never experienced GWAR before, and will be forced to do so if we do get the gig, well, at that point my colossal mega-ego kicks in and I am all over it."
After a long and wet fart, Oderus continued..."I really don't think we should be limited to playing the halftime show...I am offering GWAR as an actual team that could complete in the NFL. Think of the titanic struggle involved as the NFL submits their best players, hell, we could play against all the teams at once and still emerge victorious. For too long has the NFL ignored the obvious fact that the players should be naked, blind-folded and armed with battle axes, that land mines should litter the field and whalers should hurl harpoons randomly from the stands. GWAR is throwing our entire cosmic weight (and we are fairly hefty) behind this petition, and command all of our followers, their families, and indeed anybody who has ever existed to sign this fucking thing, and in fact for those who have already signed it to create multiple fake email addresses and sign it again!" To help break this one out to the masses, Decibel Magazine is today hosting a jam of the album's third of seven tracks, "Scrape The Walls," which can be heard below.
"[This is] the first Mutoid Man song we wrote," explains Stephen Brodsky. "It's about people who lose their minds worrying over money. To come up with all this stuff, Ben and I riffed-out at a rehearsal space in Brooklyn for about a year. The material picks up from where we left off with the Cave In Shapeshifter/Dead Already cassingle, written with Ben in the band. The two of us ran with that sound and formula and took it as far as we could go." More...

Listen to "The Worst and Longest Day" now via The Obelisk at this location. "South of the Earth" will be released on October 1st via Metal Blade. The label also comments:
"Rising out of the same Maryland/DC mean streets as fellow US doom pioneers Pentagram and The Obsessed, Iron Man was formed in 1988 as a Black Sabbath tribute band by guitarist Alfred Morris III, whose musical career began in 1977 with mysterious proto-doom cult Force. Al's legendarily heavy, unearthly guitar tone was already much in evidence on Force's ultra-rare 1981 debut EP - and it has only deepened, hardened, improved and refined in the ensuing 32 years." "One of German black metal's best-kept secrets, Darkmoon Warrior shall be secret no more once they Nuke 'Em All! All too appropriately titled, Nuke 'Em All marks the first Darkmoon Warrior album in nearly five years, and is their third to date. With a robust and rounded production, Darkmoon Warrior's new album continues the German tradition of dense, atmospheric black metal that they helped create in the first place, here with more variation and even more violence. At times vile and thrashing, other times hideous and hypnotic, Nuke 'Em All is a winding journey through arcane secrets, moonlit rituals, and blasphemous hatred."
The track listing is:
1. Fuck Off
3. The Call
4. Black Tongues And Rusty Nails
5. Nuke 'em All

In 2010, the organizers of Holland's highly acclaimed Roadburn Festival invited Tom Gabriel Warrior, founder of Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Triptykon, to act as the curator.
Under the banner of Only Death Is Real, Roadburn 2010 thus became the venue for the presentation of Triptykon's newly-released debut album, "Eparistera Daimones" (reviewed here), as well as Triptykon's first official live appearance. Century Media Records now comments:
"We are deeply delighted and proud to be able to announce that Triptykon has been asked to return to Roadburn in 2014. To commemorate the release of Triptykon's long-awaited new album in spring 2014, Triptykon will appear on Roadburn's main stage on Sunday, April 13, 2014."
Tom Gabriel Warrior states: "Roadburn is very likely the most extraordinary, daring, and vigorous festival in what has otherwise largely become a blandly repetitive and overly commercialized heavy rock scene. Moreover, anybody who has ever attended Roadburn can confirm that no other festival exudes such a unique feeling of radiance and creativity among audience and performers alike. Triptykon's return to Roadburn in 2014 signifies yet another truly unique chapter in a long affiliation with the festival, dating back to the riotous days of Celtic Frost. I am deeply grateful to Roadburn's artistic director Walter Hoeijmakers for his extraordinary friendship and his continued faith in the path we are pursuing with Triptykon. In return, we shall duly transform Roadburn into a church of darkness."
Roadburn 2014 will run from Thursday, April 10th to Sunday, April 13th at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. More...

With only two more weeks until the release of the band's Lifeforce Records debut "Monolith," French post-hardcore act Doyle Airence (formerly just Doyle) has now released a video for "Friendly Fire." Check it out below.
"Monolith" is set to be released October 11th (Germany, Austria, Switzerland + digital World), October 14th (France and rest of Europe), and October 29th (North America). The following press release was issued about the band:
"Formed in 2007 by five Parisians originally under the name Doyle, the band reached its first goals by burning its name in the collective mind of the new and forward-thinking French metal/post-hardcore scene. In 2010, debut album 'And Gods will...' jumped to #2 of the rock/metal album charts and maintained its position on the French Top 5 for three weeks. Between 2010 and 2012, the band toured through Europe with bands such as The Chariot, Between The Buried and Me, Animals as Leaders, Steak Number Eight and Deftones.
"In 2013 the band was forced to change their name due to some 'trademark issues.' Now with the new band name Doyle Airence, the quintet is looking for holistic music based on strong emotions and contrasts. Lifeforce Records debut and second album 'Monolith' strives on unconventional arrangements which are challenging but traceable. Doyle Airence's songs cause interaction with the open mindedness and concentration of the listeners. Metal, ambient, post-hardcore and -rock: it is all to find along the way – connected by a superordinate hidden agenda. 'Monolith' allows the band to broaden their musical spectrum. From Pandemonium to Eden, brutality to poetry, Doyle Airence follows its own game plan, and takes us along for the ride." More...
