Gojira Rises And Attacks New Orleans
When shows have similar-sounding bands on the bill, it’s hard to write a good show report. When the bands sound very different from each other, the experience becomes very different. Gojira brought along scary psychedelics Zoroaster and hard-to-classify Burst. The show was diverse but very heavy and complex. While Gojira is on tour with Metallica, they are taking the time on off-days to play in the cities that the big show is missing. Any one who goes to see Gojira’s headline show will be very glad that the band made the decision to fill in the gaps. More...

As I Lay Dying Issues New Album Update
Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying has issued the following update about recording a new album:
"Hi everyone,
"Songwriting has been going well with about 6-7 songs done. We decided to officially start recording the new AILD album on Oct 17. At that point we'll record as many songs as we can and then finish the album around the new year. I think this will be a good way to spread out our songwriting since most of our previous records have always been written within a few months.
"In the mean time, I had some free time to record a new Austrian Death Machine album which comes out TODAY! If you can't play metal and also have fun, then what's the point, right? Hopefully some of you AILD fans will pick it up, and thanks so much to everyone who already got their copy from the pre-order."

Tattoo The Mind Festival Canceled
Sweden's Shining has issued the following announcement about the Tattoo The Mind Festival being canceled:
"Regrettably we have been informed by the organizers that the Tattoo the Mind festival, which was due to take place on the 10th and 11th of October in Metz, has had to be canceled. Once more we have to apologize to our fans that due to circumstances beyond our control they will not be able to see us play. However, we would like to say that the organizers of Tattoo the Mind have been very correct and honest in their dealings with us, and we understand their position and hope that they will be back next year. Below we have included the basic text of their email regarding the cancellation (excluding parts that relate to business matters):
'As the organizer and producer of the TATTOO THE MIND Festival taking place the 10th & 11th of October in Metz (France), I make my own duty to give you some information about its progressing through this mail.
'Only 13 days to the opening of the doors and the few pre-sales we have already scored until today for this event has been becoming very worrying. We have sold 360 one-day tickets (for the 10th AND 11th of October altogether) + 210 two-day packages. Hence an average of less than 400 per day (or 800 for both days altogether) !!!
'Yet, this festival reaches its economical balance with 4500 people coming and accumulated on both days (naturally, you have at your disposal the budget of the festival but also the current score of pre-sales). The daily evolution of sales tends sadly to be rather unconvincing. More...

Swashbuckle's upcoming tour dates are as follows: More...

Twelfth Gate Parts Ways With Guitarist
Chicago's Twelfth Gate has issued the following announcement about recruiting a new guitar player:
"Hey guys!
"Been a LONG time since any real update...well, we finally have one for you!! I know we've said that we'd have a new album finished by the end of the year, but unfortunately we've had some unforeseen circumstances that have come up which have caused some delays...like original guitarist Rich Knight quitting. No worries though...it happened on good terms, and we're still all good, close friends. Rich left to pursue other musical opportunities & we all wish him the very best!!
"Replacing Rich is Todd Scow (formerly of Chicago based death metal powerhouse Suspiria). Todd officially joined a few months ago & thanks to his added motivation and determination, we've already finished 4 new songs. Twelfth Gate is back on track & on pace to finish the album by early 2010.
"Also, I know we said that no more shows until the new album was finished, but we are technically going into the studio in a couple weeks to record our new songs...plus it's been too damn long since we've played out and we miss it!!
"So...if you live in the Chicago area, come check us out on Friday, Oct 30th @ Shark City in Glendale Heights, IL. We'll be debuting some new songs & also our new guitar player, Todd!!"

Tales From The Pit: Redefining A "Hardcore" Pit
We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week’s story is from Magnus "Adde" Andreasson of Hardcore Superstar:
"When we played in this club in Sweden last year a wild thing happened. I was halfway through our set digging into my drums as usual when everyone in the band suddenly starts to signal me and point their fingers to the front row. OK, so I look and see two girls making out, kissing and licking on each others tits. 'Wow' I think. This goes on for a while and then this guy comes up from behind and after a couple of minutes he starts to fuck one of these girls from behind. Right there in front of us. That's the wildest stuff I've seen so far during a concert."
For more on Hardcore Superstar, we recently interviewed them as well as reviewed their latest album, "Beg For It."

2 Sides 2 Die Plays Acoustic Set In Frederick, MD
The other week I made a trip out to the local Frederick, Maryland Hot Topic to check out the three-piece grunge metal band 2 Sides 2 Die, who had announced they would be traveling from Pennsylvania to play an acoustic set there on a Thursday evening. It had been a couple years since I first caught 2 Sides 2 Die live, but I was also curious about the arrangement that Hot Topic had going on.
It's pretty cool of Hot Topic to allow unsigned/underground bands to come in and play. Having such a performance on a Thursday evening is probably intentional, but unfortunate. Hot Topic wouldn't want the band taking up too much space on crowded shopping day. But conversely, there is not much walk-in traffic to witness the bands' performance on a Thursday. So who does this arrangement really benefit? If the band brings a significant number of fans, it benefits the store, but with the walk-in traffic so low on a Thursday, it's really up to the band to promote the appearance to make it worthwhile to them.
