Brian "Head" Welch Responds To Munky's Comments
In light of the recent interview that went online where Korn's James “Munky” Shaffer states that the band said "No thanks" to the return of Brian "Head" Welch to the band, Head has released a statement of his own:
"I recently learned of an interview that Munky gave where he said that I came to KoRn and asked to be taken back in the band. That's definitely not a complete and accurate picture. The full truth is that for about a year, ever since Jonathan publicly said he wanted me back in KoRn, KoRn's managers have been requesting my manager to work on getting me back into KoRn. The calls were initiated by KoRn's managers, not my manager. I shut the door on their requests many, many times over the last several months, through my manager. However, Fieldy personally called me during KoRn's last tour in Europe and we talked as friends for a long time. He also told me if I ever wanted to rejoin KoRn, or open for KoRn as a solo artist, the door was always open. Since Fieldy is sober now and a Christian like me, I thought it may be a good idea to visit with Fieldy, a friend of mine, to see what he was up to and what it was all about. I had a great time re-connecting with Fieldy. I mainly went to his house to connect with an old friend. The KoRn stuff we talked about was secondary, but it was discussed. Fieldy thought that Jonathan, Munky, and I should all meet AS FRIENDS; re-connect; and maybe discuss the possibilities. Both Jonathan and Munky refused that meeting. I learned a lot visiting with Fieldy. I learned that I love and miss my friends, but the visit confirmed to me that I have a different calling in life than to reconnect musically/professionally.
"As far as Munky's comment that 'everything has been divided already' that is also not accurate. In fact, from January 2005 when I left, and for the next 4 years, KoRn failed to pay to me royalties that were due to me on records that I did with them. However, I don't believe this was done intentionally. We are trying to be patient and work with their management to get the financial issues resolved so that 'everything can be divided as we agreed long ago in our contracts.' I am optimistic that we can resolve it as friends.
"I continue to wish nothing but the best for KoRn, and that includes all of my friends there--Fieldy, Jonathan and Munky."
Atreyu Reveals New Album Tracklisting
Following up their critically and commercially successful album, "Lead Sails Paper Anchor," which sold over 315,000 copies, Atreyu is returning with their fifth album entitled "Congregation of the Damned." "Lead Sails Paper Anchor"marked a substantial shift for the group, expressing an explosively commercial and alternative side of Atreyu that had been largely unexplored. With their new album, "Congregation of the Damned," the members wanted to continue to develop musically, but at the same time return to more of the aggression and firepower they exhibited growing up in the hardcore metal-based scene of Orange County, California.
“The music is heavier and so I was able to write darker lyrics,” explains vocalist Alex Varkatzas. “There’s personal shit on there: self-doubt, self-loathing. Bands who sing about happy things have their place, and I’m not singing about dark things to promote them, I’m singing about them so I don’t go insane. It’s pure catharsis. I make music so I don’t go crazy.”
Varkatzas finds himself in that darker territory with first single “Storm To Pass,” a song that has double meaning: the storm as depression, and the storms of war: “You can feel that depression coming on, you can see yourself doing fucked up things but you can’t stop it,” says Varktazas. “I grew up watching the first Iraq war and the invasion of various countries and how the whole thing became one giant shit storm.”
The full track listing for CONGREGATION OF THE DAMNED is as follows:
Stop! Before It’s Too Late and We’ve Destroyed it All
Bleeding is a Luxury
Congregation of The Damned
Coffin Nails
Black Days Begin
Gallows
Storm to Pass
You Were King Now You’re Unconscious
Insatiable
So Wrong
Ravenous
Lonely
Wait For You
In support of the album, every two weeks leading up to the October 27th release, Atreyu will debut a webisode documenting not only their thoughts on the new record, but they will also take a look back at where the band’s career has taken them over the course of the last 10 years. A new webisode will post every two weeks with the final one posting on October 20th.
"Congregation of the Damned," produced by Bob Marlette (Airborne, Ozzy Osbourne), mixed by Rich Costey (Mars Volta, System of A Down, Rage Against the Machine) with select tracks mixed by Noah Shain (Endless Hallway, Sonny),” comes out October 27.

Tales From The Pit: Knocking Out The HxC Kid
We've been talking to bands, promoters, and fans to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This is from Bake in Indianapolis.
“Here at the Emerson (Indianapolis) it’s impossible to see a show without some ‘tard tough guy trying to smash heads all night. So I went to see Zao and Unearth and this dude wearing daisy dukes kept running to the front and jumping on us. I grabbed the guy from the back of the head and told him I’d kill him if he hit me again, and he spit in my face... just a little. So my bud kept his eye out for when the kid was coming to jump; we all moved when he made his flight. Luckily for me, the stage took care of knocking the f**ker out. Stupid bastard.”

Dillinger Escape Plan Issues Recording Update
The Dillinger Escape Plan has issued the following update about their recent activity and their studio recording time:
"Not much time. Busy with this record. Fuck Yeah Fest was killer, the last two NIN shows we played were killer, our new album's gonna be killer, we're killer, you guys are killer, blah blah. The series of weekly video blogs from the studio will be coming every Monday (or Tuesday morning if it's a little late!) throughout the entire time we're in the studio.
"Ok.....we'll be back soon. The last two Limited Edition Ire Works T-Shirts(When Acting As A Wave, and Mouth Of Ghosts), as well as the Remix EP we've been working on, are forthcoming. Sorry I don't have more for you right now, we're just BUSY getting this record done. Talk to you guys soon, hope you all are doing great!
"PS....You know what's hilarious? The fact that people are losing their minds over Kanye West doing whatever he did while Taylor Swift was accepting her award for best whatever at the VMAs(didn't they stop showing videos like a decade ago?!) without realizing that when they talk about that shit they are OUTING THEMSELVES AS ACTUALLY HAVING TUNED INTO THE VMAS! DORKS!!! DOOOOORKSSS!!!! Next time someone tries to talk to you about that shit just cut them off by yelling a short powerful "DORK" in their face and quickly walking the other way as if you just ran into a forcefield of inpenetrable dorkness. Works like this and saves you from time wasting idiocy: Some Idiot: 'Dude did you see what Kanye W-' You: 'DORK!!!!!' (immediately head in opposite direction of said dork)"
Echoes Of Eternity Streaming New Song Online
Los Angeles’ female-fronted metallers Echoes of Eternity have debuted a new track entitled “Memories Of Blood And Gold” on their official MySpace page. The song comes from their upcoming sophomore album, "As Shadows Burn," which is set for North American release on September 22nd.
Guitarist / songwriter Brandon S. Patton shares some background on the track: “I saw a History Channel documentary on the impact gold has had on humanity over the course of history. I came up with the title of the song but Francine wrote the lyrics. It’s based loosely on the trampling of México and South America by the Spaniards in their pursuit of gold 400 years ago. I wrote the main riffs shortly after the Edguy tour ended in late 2007. I was inspired by Jon Schaffer's playing in Iced Earth and wanted to write some riffs that would seemingly fit in on one of their albums. My favorite part of the song is the riff immediately following the guitar solo - it’s just so heavy, thrashy and powerful. Makes me want to headbang every time I hear it. Also, at the beginning of the second verse, Francine does this really cool vocal melody over the main riff of the song.”
Alice In Chains Posts New Video Online

Anthrax To Re-Issue "Among The Living"
American thrash metal legends Anthrax will be re-releasing their third studio album, "Among The Living" this November through Island/Megaforce Records. The deluxe package will include the album and a number of bonus tracks, including out-takes and b-sides, as well as a bonus live DVD of a full concert in London, which was originally released as a home video in 1987. This edition of the album will hit the stores on November 10th.
"This record was done at a time when life was moving so fast for us, and I think the music reflects that pace. I really enjoyed going back into 1986/87 and found some great stuff in my vault I had forgot about. I think Anthrax fans will enjoy this remastered collection; the high end and low end is back as how it was intended to sound. Thrash metal is alive and well in Among The Living." says drummer Charlie Benante.

Ravage Announces New Drummer, Pete Webber
Singer Al of the Boston thrash metal band Ravage has issued the following update regarding their drummer:
"It is with regret that I must inform you all that George 'GTB' Bellofatto is no longer a member of Ravage. Change has been a constant in this band since we began quite a while back, but I had hoped our most recent line-up would be stable for once - unfortunately, that was not in the cards and once again we have a change in the rhythm section. GTB has left the band to concentrate on his career outside of music and we wish him the best of luck with that and with any future musical projects he may undertake. We were lucky enough to have enlisted the aid of a great young local drummer named Pete Webber and we can now announce that he will be a permanent member of Ravage. Pete has played all of the dates on our current US tour, including our successful CD release party and he brings an abundance of skill and creativity. His performances have already gotten rave reviews from those in attendance and I have no doubt that his playing will add a new element of power, speed, and musical depth to future recordings." Austrian Death Machine Streaming New Song Online
Austrian Death Machine is streaming the new song "I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, and Your Motorcycle" off the upcoming album "Double Brutal" online at their official MySpace page.
Austrian Death Machine creator Tim Lambesis comments on the new song: "My goal with this song is to get people to sing along to this classic line while filling in the gaps with brutal metal elements I believe are tried and true. Some bands try to write to songs that are outside the box, and some bands just want to box so we can punch other people in the face and call it a sport. Regardless of whether or not you want to be in or outside of the box, I hope everyone enjoys this song from Double Brutal."
"Double Brutal" is set for a North American release on September 29th.
Defiance Streaming New Song Online
Defiance has issued the following announcement about streaming a new song online:

"The full album is set for release on October 19th in Europe and October 20th in the US through Candlelight Records."

If the past few days are any indication of how the rest of the recording is going to go, then I feel certain that this will be our best work yet."

Down Comments On Boston Herald Interview
Down has issued the following statement about a recent interview with the Boston Herald:
"This past week Philip Anselmo did an interview with the Boston Herald to promote Down's show at the House of Blues in Boston. We wanted to clear up some things before the rumor mill starts turning. First off, the band will be writing and recording an album for release in 2010.
"Secondly, re the statement, 'Rex Brown, who also played in Pantera, has left the band for personal reasons' - Rex did not join this tour due to imminent health concerns, the sabbatical is not permanent. As Philip states on stage every night, Rex is the bass player in Down and will continue to be. Lastly, the band haarp, currently touring with Down and signed to Philip's Housecore Records label, hail from New Orleans not North Carolina.
"We hope this clears up the questions that have been flooding in."

Mikael Akerfeldt Comments On Katatonia Album
Opeth front man Mikael Akerfeldt, who appeared on the early Katatonia releases "Brave Murder Day" and "Sounds of Decay," has issued the following statement about the upcoming Katatonia album "Night is the New Day:"
"Katatonia - Night is the new day is possibly the greatest 'heavy' record I've heard in the last 10 years. Most people know my history with them and also my friendship with the guys. Jonas and I have been best buddies for the last 18 years or so.
"Everytime Opeth or Katatonia has a new record we arrange a small private listening party. Usually with myself, Anders and Jonas. For years we've managed to record albums around the same time and had both the new Opeth album and the new Katatonia album played back on the same session. It's always great fun, however disciplined.
"You can't talk during playback (death penalty), you listen to the album all the way through twice, and then we have the 'comments'. Everything is washed down with beer or wine...there might be snacks on the table.
"Well, 2 days after the new Katatonia album is mastered here we are, holed up in a friends apartment ready to go through the new masterpiece by Katatonia. And it truly is a masterpiece! I have not been this taken back by an album for a long time. I almost had tears in my eyes. It's an absolutely stunning piece of music! Easily their most progressive and emotional record as far as I'm concerned. More...
Shadowside Issues Tour Road Report
Brazil's Shadowside has issued the following road report:
"Alright, my Babies in the Dark... hope you are all doing well tonight!
"After the past two shows in Illinois, we couldn't be more excited about this tour and both appearances tomorrow! First of all, let me walk you through our experiences in the past few days. They were very entertaining, fun and for me, challenging as well, since I had to sing both shows with a sore throat. I never even CONSIDERED cancelling any of the shows because I know how damn frustrating it is when a band I'm looking forward to see has to cancel and we had people messaging us saying they were as thrilled as we were to be coming to those cities that we've never been before. Since my voice wasn't sounding any different, I just went for it and I'm glad I did! More...

God bless America.”
