Interview
Ravage Discusses Their Tour During Interview
On August 21st I went to see the Boston traditional/thrash metal band Ravage perform at Dingbatz. Supposedly doors were at 7 and the show was supposed to start at 8. When I arrived with my friends, the only people at the venue were the bands playing. They were waiting to load in. after about an hour of waiting for someone to let us in and socializing with Ravage, I decided to interview them outside the venue. It turned out that it was a 9:30 show and 9pm doors and it wasn’t posted on the website, nor was anyone really informed until last minute. It was the first time I’ve ever experienced this at the venue. In the end the show was amazing and well worth the 3 hours I had to wait until the first band, Ravage, took the stage. Though the whole band was present during the interview, mostly the singer, Al, and the guitarist, Nick, answered questions. Lots of humor was present throughout the interview, which made it a lot of fun. I hope readers can get a few laughs out of it. More...

Sunday Old School: Suicidal Tendencies
Hardcore is such a great means for getting rid of some teenage angst and aggression. Though that's not what really attracted me to the style, it was beneficial many times. While being far from the greatest song in history, I know I related to the underlying issue: that we're a product of the environment that our own families put us in, while at the same time leveling accusations at us that we're "out of step." If you don't like the song, I imagine you'll love the video.

The Devil's Blood Announces New Album Release Date
Satanic rock and roll act The Devil's Blood has issued the following announcement about releasing a new album:
"With a release date scheduled for September the eleventh of two thousand and nine THE DEVIL'S BLOOD unleash this epic work that encapsulates all that defines this cult once and for all. Transcending all that has come before and and the same time affirming their origin and roots with clear artistic zeal and clear spiritual force. Many tears, screams of anguish, cries of joy and drops of blood where spent to get to this momentous junction. The recording, mixing and mastering process was again in the more than capable hands of engineer of Pieter G. Kloos whom the band have worked with since the beginning.
"This album is intended as a push towards the apex of the Kali Yuga we are currently existing in. The title describes a state of unbeing which lies just beyond existence as we perceive it 'normally' and through the words and music it is intended that nails are raked across the thin boundaries that separate us from the crawling chaos and into the timeless eternity of the thoughtless void. Our vision is that these songs, each in a different manner and from a different angle, succeed in helping the listeners to attune their beings to the vibrations of the left hand side and making its wine spill into this world, drop by drop, song by song, word by word, curse by curse and, eventually, death by death...
"...thus ushering in 'The Time Of No Time Evermore'!"

On the new album the band comments, “Cimmerian represents a new beginning for the band. It represents a conscious effort to create something fresh and extend our own musical horizons. That said, listeners will still find hints of the raw ethereal sound of our EP. This album was a challenge from conception to creation but it is one we are wholly proud of and we hope that is reflected in the final product.”
The track listing for "Cimmerian" is as follows:
01. The Pendulum
02. This Wrathful Abyss
03. Vacant Illusions

Hail! Issues Tour Recap
Hail!, the group featuring David Ellefson, Jimmy Degrasso (ex-Megadeth), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) and Tim "Ripper" Owens, has issued the following recap of their Scandinavian tour:
"It’s August 29, and HAIL! is set to plunder with the Vikings and Norsemen across Scandinavia for the next weeks. We all arrived in Norway’s northern city of Trondheim on Sunday August 30. Ripper, Abba and I flew from the USA while Andreas came up from Oporto, Portugal where he played a festival with SEPULTURA the night before.
"New to the outfit on this tour is our friend and skins man Roy Mayorga, now of the famed group STONE SOUR. I first saw Roy play with SOULFLY on OZZFEST 98. His hair was red and he was a ball of fury behind the drums. Today, his hair isn’t red, but his playing is still the ball of fury it ever was. It’s good to have him on board this month. He came over from Glasgow, Scotland where he was recording in weeks prior with punk legends AMEBIX.
"Norway is my father land, originally spelled ‘Elevsen’ and traced back to the late 1600s. Our promoter Havard (‘Howard’ to us Americans) gave me and Abba a factual tour of the city, informing us the Trondheim airport is technically in the city called HELL. Now, we can officially say ‘We’ve been through and hell and back’! More...

Pete is without doubt the best drummer the band has played with and we look forward to people hearing how the new lineup sounds.
"The Enlightened EP should be available on CDBaby in the coming weeks. Last Light is being pressed this week and will go out for review in the next few weeks. CDBaby will also have both hard and digital copies of it available. An EPK for the album will be online in a number of parts soon."

Metal Plans Live Performance
After 2 years, Australian “true metal” band Metal is planning a live appearance. Metal’s founder Razor “Sting” Ray said in an official statement:
“September 26th will see the first Full Scale Metal assault. The line up is different to what fans have known previously, but I assure you it has never been Truer. Chinch 'The Boss' Chinchella has returned from living in Europe to bring his unrelenting shredding back to the band. Rob 'Smithy' Blacksmith brings a voice of blazing steel, without parallel amongst this generation’s Heavy Metal Vocalists. Col 'Ice Cold' Collins has joined on drums, though he makes them sound more like hammer blows from Thor himself than mere drums. Danny 'Diamond' Crusher and I are still at the core of the band and have been working tirelessly to bring forth unquestionable, unconquerable, uncompromising, incomparable Heavy Metal that will tear the face off the False and leave the True mesmerised for days afterwards. September 26th is just the beginning, but it is also the end. The end of False Metal in Australia standing unopposed. Never again. We will prove our mettle, and this time there will be no respite!”
Metal will be playing hits of their upcoming album “Proving Our Mettle” set for release sometime in 2010. The show details are as follows:
Sep 26, 2009 @ 8:00P - Lansdowne Hotel, Sydney, New South Wales
In the meantime, you can check out some of their music on the band's MySpace player.
Bowlfinger Releases Career Spanning Album For Free
From 1994 to 2009 Tsmith from the hardcore torture tekk industrial band mindFluxFuneral has been venting his drum and bass/jungle and perhaps a little experimental noise through his project Bowlfinger. Fifteen years later and 15 years worth of art, he has decided to give it away. Tsmith is currently working on new mindfluxfuneral, Flutter and more Bowlfinger.
While this style of industrial is more techo and electronical than metal and not as dark or heavy as mindFluxFuneral, there are a few songs with heavier elements (but still not guitar-driven). Plus it's free, so if any sort of industrial interests you, you can check it out and download "Consciousness | 1994-2009" from the band's bandcamp page.
