Ihsahn Auctioning Off Guitar

Ihsahn has issued the following announcement about auctioning off a guitar he used during his time with Emperor, Peccatum, and his solo work:

"This Jackson Dinky has served as one of Ihsahn's main guitars for over a decade both in the studio and on the road. It can be heard on such Emperor recordings as 'IX Equilibrium', 'Prometheus' and even seen on the Live DVD 'Emperial Live Ceremony', several Peccatum albums and his first solo album; 'The Adversary', doing it’s last service on the first Emperor reunion shows in 2006. The guitar is in very good condition and has few cosmetic flaws.

"Comes in original case and can be signed depending on the buyers wishes.

Mower Pulls Out Of Skinlab Tour

Mower has issued the following update about pulling out of their upcoming tour with Skinlab:

"Mower would like to sincerely thank Skinlab, Sik World, Jagermeister, Loudside.com, and all the promoters and venues that invited us to be part of the Sons of a Sik World tour.

"A decision made by a departing member yesterday has forced the band to relinquish our spot on the bill. We are beyond disappointed. Sometime between sound check and set time last night in Denver, CO, our guitarist Greg Russell decided to book a flight and leave the tour without alerting anyone in the band of his intentions.

"The fact that he decided that his issues were more important than the fans, friends, band, crew, agents, club owners, promoters, record labels, sponsors, press, Skinlab, and all the local support acts is something that we can't even begin to understand or condone. The four remaining members of Mower looked into every possible replacement option to continue on the tour, but none of those options would have been viable in time.

"The good news is that we will have a replacement ready in time for our upcoming tour in November. Mower has been through this type of thing before and although it is unsettling, we intend to move through it and continue with our plans to tour as much as possible supporting our new release, 'Make It A Double.' Thanks for your patience while we regroup and prepare for November's 'Holiday Hate Tour' with Psychostick and Straight Line Stitch."

Solstafir Issues Road Report

Solstafir has issued the following recap of their recent European tour dates:

"So, it’s been a few days already and memories are starting to become vague, some would say because of alcohol abuse in the bus, but I think it’s mostly down to old age.

"We kicked off the tour in Finland with a gig in a small town called Jÿvaskÿla after spending some lost time at our friend’s Sami’s unofficial office, Pub Ikkuna in Helsinki. The Jÿvaskÿla gig went way better than we expected, a good crowd and a great reaction. And the aftershow party was awesome too thanks to the Cavus and Pressure points guys. Big cheers to them! But not everyone survived that night. Late in the night Svavar smashed one of his two basses in a fit of extreme rage because the kebab place decided to close down just as he was about to order his kebab. We’re just thankful that he wasn’t in a pizza place! More...

Taintstick Declares War Against Tim McGraw

In a blatant effort at self-promotion, comedy pseudo metal band Taintstick has declared war against country singer Tim McGraw and his new album "Southern Voice." The band is currently calling for McGraw's retirement in a new challenge issued by the band today.

"Look, McGraw – you've had a good run. 40 million sold and eleven consecutive number one albums. You've even got a famous wife chick, so we got nothing but love for you. Cowfucker's Mom even went to one of your concerts one time and said you put on a good show, but enough’s enough. Taintstick is here to hunt big game, and you're directly in the bullseye," said the band in a statement. "So let's do this; 'Southern Voice' vs 'Six Pounds of Sound' winner take all. Whomever sells more gets the glory, while the loser goes home forever. You in?"

Taintstick is currently awaiting a response from Tim McGraw’s camp, while they prepare for the release their debut album, "6 Pounds of Sound," on October 27th, 2009 through Suburban Noize Records. The group recently announced they have recruited Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden to handle bass duties for their upcoming World Tour.

You can check out a few songs on the band's MySpace page, most of which are heavier than the Blink 182 style satire in the "Apple Juice" music video below. More...

Tristania Recording New Album

Tristania bassist Ole Vistnes has issued the following update about the band recording a new album:

"This being my first official blogpost as a member of Tristania, I would first direct my humble gratitude to the band, and to all you readers, listeners, fans! I have loved my time in Tristania so far, and we're just getting started. Thanks for all the nice emails and all the support! Well, enough smooth talk, let's get down to business!

"We have a new record in the making, as some of you might be aware of. The songs are mainly done, the lyrics are getting there, and recording dates are to be booked soon. The creation of this album has been for me personally the most exciting and exhausting task I have ever embarked on. 13 ideas are slowly but steadily growing into 13 brand new songs. From idea to draft to sketch to demo to pre-prod, and soon, to the new Tristania album. When I joined the band, they told me that the creative process was a collective effort. My opinions and ideas would count just as much as the people that has been in the band a decade or more. To some it may seem ridiculous to 'jeopardize' the most important aspect in the band, the songwriting, by inviting someone completely fresh to participate. Even if we had very different musical background and preferences, Anders took the initiative to find the common ground, and create new music, and after working together with Anders only a couple of sessions, it was clear to me that we had much more in common musically, than our background would indicate. Barren Earth Announces Release Date for Debut

Scandinavian progressive death metal titans-to-be Barren Earth have announced the release date for their debut EP, “Our Twilight.” Recently signed to the progressive powerhouse Peaceville Records, Finland’s Barren Earth will unleash the four-song debut November 17.

“Getting signed by Peaceville Records is a great honour, as they are one of the very few metal labels left who have a passion and feeling for the music they release,” explained bassist Olli-Pekka Laine (Ex-Amorphis, Mannhai) in a press release earlier this month. “Hopefully Barren Earth will also be able to add a fresh spin to Peaceville’s already impressive roster.”

Barren Earth features an experienced line-up from a host of internationally renowned and acclaimed outfits. With former members of Finnish metallers Amorphis, plus current members of Swallow the Sun, Moonsorrow, Kreator, and Mannhai, the members of Barren Earth are no newcomers to the progressive metal scene.

A debut full-length album, containing the extended version of “Our Twilight,” will be released in early 2010.
