Since The Flood Calls It Quits

New England hardcore/metal band Since The Flood has broken up. Formed in 2002, the group has released albums with Ironclad Recordings and Metal Blade Records. Drummer Luke Buckbee has issued the following statement:

"It's been a long and hard 6.5 years. Would I ever give one second of it up? Not for the world. As of Thursday September 11th 2008, Since the Flood is done. I'm sure this is a huge surprise to many people, but it was a decision that needed to be made.

"No matter what anyone thought of us, we were a blue collar band. We never had the hype that many more recent bands enjoy. We toured our asses off, partied all over the world, and wrote music that we loved to play. Since the Flood never made any money and never turned into a true business. Looking back, I think that this was a blessing in disguise, because we can all walk away and feel in no way cheated. We all had some amazing experiences and all came home broke as shit.

"Why the break-up? Gas prices? Member issues? Yup. But those aren't the main reasons. It's just time to move on. For Chuck, Kevin, and Rob that time came sooner than later, but for Dave, Nate, Ricky, Dan and I, the time is now. There's no anger or bitterness it's just time to start a new chapter in our lives and careers. More...

Halcyon Way Signs To Nightmare Records

Atlanta's progressive power/thrash band HALCYON WAY has inked a deal with U.S. label Nightmare Records. Their debut CD, "A Manifesto For Domination," will be released worldwide on November 11, 2008. The album was produced by guitarist Jon Bodan, mixed by Lasse Lammert (Alestorm), and mastered by James Murphy (Testament, Death).

Sounding like a cross between Megadeth, Dio, and Fates Warning, the band is known and recognized for its energetic and theatrical live performances, blazing guitar, intricate drumming, and three-part vocal harmonies. They have appeared live with acts such as Helloween, Symphony X, Kamelot, Brand New Sin, Cellador, Circle II Circle, To/Die/For, Doro Pesch, Strapping Young Lad, and many others. In addition, they appeared live at the ProgPower USA Showcase in 2004 and 2007, alongside bands such as Primal Fear, Threshold, Freak Kitchen, and Virgin Steele. Halcyon Way also performed twice at Rocklahoma in 2008, alongside bands such as Queensrÿche, Tesla, and many others.

"The band was very persistent. Finally they we're far enough along in the recording process and gave me a few of their songs to check out. I was sold! This band, while being a new force to be recognized, knows how to write solid songs, and how to translate their ideas from gut and head to your ears!," said Lance King (Nightmare Records).

Here is the complete tracklisting for "A Manifesto For Domination": More...

Silent Civilian Will Continue

A posting on the official Spineshank Myspace has confirmed that Silent Civilian, the band formed by lead singer after his departure from Spineshank, will not disband. The full post reads as follows:

"You guys are awesome!! the response from you has been amazing, it feels like we never went away. i would love to respond to each of you personally, and i will try to get to that, but i just wanted to answer a few questions that have been coming up a lot. First of all, you dont have to worry about us abandoning our sound, there will be plenty of electronics/loops/synths on this record. Jonny is also singing better than he ever has, so there will be a ton of singing and melody as well. This will definitely be heavier than our previous albums but it will not be all bashing. I can whole heartedly promise you that we will not be trying to be anything we are not. this is simply going to be Spineshank 5 years later. there will be a few new elements but it will be undeniably us (for better or worse!!!)

"As far as Silent Civillian goes, Jonny is obviously concentrating on Spineshank right now, but he does plan on doing another record in the future. Jonny will also be playing some guitar in spineshank from now on, It will give Mike a little bit freedom in a live setting and add a bit more balls to the live show. If you guys have any questions dont hesitate to ask, it may take some time but we will try to get back to each one of you."

Linkin Park's Chester Bennington Blasts VMAs

Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington recently lashed out at the organizers of the MTV Video Music Awards for turning the prizegiving into an annual mess.

The rockers picked up a Best Rock Video gong for their "Shadow of The Day" promo - but the singer was far from happy about the overall event, which saw Britney Spears pick up three awards and comedian/host Russell Brand relentlessly poke fun at the Jonas Brothers.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine, Bennington admits he was disappointed with the September 7 event.

He says, "Where were Foo Fighters and Nickelback? Or even a band like Three Days Grace, who had a pretty big year? There was no Vampire Weekend or Daughtry. It was very one-sided."

And he accuses the show itself of "raising the bar of confusion and disarray," adding, "The VMAs are consistently clusterf***s, and this year set a new standard.

"You had people who were invited sitting out in the streets. Plus, everybody was texting, no one was watching the show. I got super bummed out.

"I think the VMAs have completely lost touch with a broad scope of music. It was very bubblegum and Disney, which is why bands like Foo Fighters and everybody else in my group weren't there."

My America Parts With Vocalist David Rushman

My America is Watching Tigers Die has parted with band founder and long time vocalist David Rushman.

"I am totally not stoked to be writing this, but I will no longer be a part of My America. The decision was made after I had a lot of down time to think about it. Basically what it boils down to is that I am not financially stable enough to live the self sufficient 'adult' lifestyle and still be able to tour as much as the rest of the band wishes to. Thanks to a $30,000 tab compliments of five years at the University of Delaware, as well as rent, car insurance, car payments, and a maxed out credit card, I am in a pretty immense amount of debt. I don't expect to be getting out of it anytime soon, but as it was, touring was pushing me deeper and deeper into the hole. This all really reached a head while we were doing our more recent US tour with Romans this past summer. I realized how fucked I was going to be when I got home... and guess what... I was. Over the course of the tour, there were talks about my financial situation between the rest of the band and myself, and I ultimately told them that I would NEVER knowingly hold them back because of it. After we went to Boston and back a few weeks ago and talks of a tour in November arose, I knew I couldn't do it. I also knew that if I tried to work it out and ended up backing out, like I probably would have, I would be doing exactly what I said I would never do: holding the band back. Having to turn down a show every once in a while because of work, or because I couldn't afford it is no big deal, but continually having to turn down tours because one of four members can't afford it isn't fair, and I knew the time had come for me to let go. The hardest part about it is that I in no way WANT to do this... I desperately want to be in this band. For the last seven years of my life I have been playing music with these guys, and I honestly don't know what I am going to do without it. I have had some of the best times of my life driving around with these assholes... going to parties across the country, smoking weed in Wal-Mart parking lots, jerking-off in friends' showers, things that I would never have had the chance to experience if it weren't for this band. I have seen about 40 of the 48 continental United States because of the multiple east coast and couple of full U.S. tours that we went on, something that also definitely would not have happened without this band. The other guys in My America are my family, and no matter what, this will always be my band. I have no intention of starting or joining another band. I just know that not only would I not be able to dedicate myself to another band, but it would never be the same. I was a part of the countless demos, our 8-song EP, our seven inch, and the latest full length record that was put out by Pluto Records, I label I have respected for years. I made my mark on this whole "music" thing, and I am happy that I did it with Matt, Andy, and Brian. They in no way made me feel pressured to do this... it was completely my decision and they didn't make me feel bad about that either. I wish them the best of luck, and hope that I can catch them when they are opening for As I Lay Dying next fall... hopefully they will guest list me, but they always have been pretty stingy about that shit.

I also want to say thank you to all the sweet ass people I have met in other bands, at shows, or just hanging out. You are all awesome, and you gave me a little bit more faith in the human race. I hope that somehow I had a small effect on your life... whether it was on a personal level, or just because you liked my lyrics or beautiful voice. Bye Bye for now."

News on a permanent replacement for Rushman or temporary fill-in vocalist will be announced soon. More...

Arsis Bassist Noah Martin Departs

Arsis bassist Noah Martin has announced his departure from the band to pursue a college degree. Here's the entire message he posted online about the decision:

"Well, I don't know where to start. When you're in a band, you're nothing but at the will of the group you're in. At some point, after lots of nights laying awake in a bunk after a show in the middle of the country, you really start to wonder where your life is headed. I know there's a big difference between what's smart and what you really want to do. I really need to do the smart thing and finish college, though I'd also like to do what I love, and continue playing with Arsis. Unfortunately, I can't do them both. Thus, I've decided to leave the band.

"I've had such a phenomenal time with Jim [Malone], Ryan [Knight] , and Shawn [Priest], as we'll always be friends. I'll miss working with Gerardo, Loana, and bugging Mike at Nuclear Blast, who've made working with them the most enjoyable experience. Thanks to anyone and everyone we've ever worked with, including the bands with which we've toured. More...

Early Man Readies New EP For Release

EARLY MAN returns next month with "Beware The Circling Fin," their first release since 2005's acclaimed "Closing In." "Beware The Circling Fin," the band's first release for THE END RECORDS, was mixed with the help of legendary producer Jack Endino (Nirvana, Mudhoney, Dwarves, High On Fire) and will be available October 14th.

The EP's title track was inspired by Paul Watson and his organization, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Sea Shepherd activists endorse a deliberate policy of sinking or sabotaging vessels they believe have violated international whaling laws. Sea Shepherd members are known to call themselves "eco-pirates." EARLY MAN frontman Mike Conte explains his fascination with Watson and Sea Shepherd:

"It was brought to my attention [that] Paul Watson was regularly engaged in campaigns, often in the deep sea, where he was taking direct action against illegal whaling/shark finning/seal clubbing, etc. What stood out to me was that he was sometimes going as far as ramming illegal whaling/fishing vessels, occasionally even sinking them.

"This isn't some passive hippy fuck with a 'save the whales' bumper sticker on his Volkswagen or some naïve college kid with a clipboard trying to sign people up for a pointless march or walkathon or some bullshit. This guy was like 'I'm going to raise money to buy a boat and then go out into the ocean and try to stop this insanity WHILE it's happening'. That is some ballsy shit! And something that no one else is doing. I immediately respected that and wanted to support it in any way I could." More...

Saxon Reveals New Album Release Date And Title

Saxon has announced that their brand new studio album, "Into The Labyrinth" is set to be released on January 12th in Europe (9th in Germany) and January 13th in North America. The albums first single, "Live To Rock" will be made available as a download on October 17th.

Into The Labyrinth was recorded at the Twilight Hall in Krefeld, Germany, under the direction of Charlie Bauerfeind. Saxon recorded 13 new songs at Blind Guardian’s studio, starting with their monumental opener, ‘Battalions Of Steel’, through ‘Demon Sweeney Todd’ and ‘Valley Of The Kings’, which both cover historic events, to the final slide guitar blues track, ‘Coming Home’ (fans are already familiar with the electric version of this track from Saxon’s Killing Ground album). Saxon are currently still working on an additional 14th track, which will be available exclusively as a download on iTunes from the release date. “The new material was written in England and at my house in France,” Byford explains. “Stylistically, I would describe the album as an even balance between Lionheart and The Inner Sanctum, a mix of powerful, in-your-face rock songs and pure heavy metal tracks. We’re very happy with the production and proud of Into The Labyrinth.”

The tracklisting is as follows:

1. Battalions Of Steel
2. Live To Rock
3. Demon Sweeney Todd
4. The Letter
5. Valley Of The Kings
6. Slow Lane Blues
7. Crime Of Passion
8. Premonition in D Minor
9. Voice
10. Protect Yourselves
11. Hellcat
12. Come Rock Of Ages (The Circle Is Complete)
13. Coming Home (Bottleneck Version)
