Deicide Announces K. Quirion As Touring Guitarist

Starting with this weekend's show in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, ORDER OF ENNEAD guitarist, Kevin Quirion will join Glen Benton, Steve Asheim and Jack Owen to be a touring guitarist with the legendary death metal innovators, DEICIDE.

Here's what Kevin Quirion had to say about it:

"DEICIDE needed a guitarist and I happened to be standing right there. I'll be doing the Ft. Lauderdale show Sept 13th, 4 dates in Italy (Sept 18-21) and whatever else comes up. This will tide me over until ORDER OF ENNEAD starts their touring cycle, which we hope to be very significant. Steve Asheim plays in both bands and Jack Owen will be playing guitar with ORDER OF ENNEAD so there will be no conflict of scheduling."

Of course, it's not a case of all work and no play for DEICIDE's newfound touring guitarist. It's been a big honor for Quirion thus far:

"I've been listening to DEICIDE since 1990 so it's a real pleasure jamming with them. I've learned 19 songs over the last couple weeks and rehearsing with the guys 3 times a week and everything is sounding tight and massive."

Matt Heafy Discusses New Trivium Album

Arielle Castillo of New Times Broward-Palm Beach recently conducted an interview Trivium frontman, Matt Heafy.

Here are some excerpts from the interview:

New Times Broward-Palm Beach: "What’s the significance of the album’s title, 'Shogun'?"

Heafy: "I’ve always known of that word, and on our second Japanese tour, I was on a bus tour, like a tourist tour. They were talking about ancient shogun, who were the highest-ranking military people in ancient Japanese times. And I was like, Holy shit, that’s a really epic title, I want to use that for something. But I think 'The Crusade' was just about to come out, so there was no need for a title like that.

"We started writing the music for this record, and we saw how epic, how captivating the music was for the four of us, and we knew we needed a title that represented the music appropriately. So I brought up the title that I’ve always had in the back of my mind, and was like, Hey guys, how about this word? It’s perfect. It’s a word that summed up this album perfectly."

New Times Broward-Palm Beach: "Did Japanese history and folklore influence anything else with this record? I see you’ve got these traditional Japanese tattoos going on...."

Heafy: "Definitely on this record there are some Japanese historically influenced song titles, there’s also some Greek stuff, Judeo-Christian stuff. None of these are really retellings of specifically what the title is, or maybe what the song seems to be about, but they’re using these things as tools to further the lyrics even more.

"Like, the first song on the album is called 'Kirisute Gomen,' which was an ancient samurai term which was basically, if you pissed off a samurai, he could chop off your head by law. Like, sorry, but I have to take your head. I thought it was very pertinent. I liked it."

New Times Broward-Palm Beach: "So would you say this is in any way a concept kind of album?"

Heafy: "Conceptually, it’s got the same concepts going on, but it’s not a concept record. So there’s three 'concepts' in the same sentence. It does have some similar conceptual ideas."

Interview With Scott Kelly of Neurosis

When you mix twenty-two years of playing music together with the determination to own the music and make it for them, you get one of the most influential bands since Discharge. Neurosis have catapulted themselves to a band that no one knew what to do with to a band to be respected and their unique sound - a mixture of post-metal, doom metal, a pinch of punk, and tribal-like drum beats - have both awed fans and inspired musicians with their sheer intensity of their recorded output and their notoriously devastating live performances. Add incredible visuals that both move and terrify and Neurosis leaves its mark wherever they go.

I recently had the opportunity to speak with Scott Kelly, vocalist and guitarist of Neurosis, about their music, their legacy, and the UFC. More...

Alabama Thunderpussy Is No More

Just minutes after watching the debut episode of the HBO horror series “True Blood” and the scene in which a character in a bar is wearing an Alabama Thunderpussy t-shirt, guitarist Erik Larson issued a statement that the band was breaking up — and it had nothing to do with “True Blood.”

“The beginning of 2008 brought yet more upheaval in the saga that is this band when [singer] Kyle Thomas (Exhorder) left the group to focus on his family and the impending Exhorder reunion,” wrote Larson. “The remaining four of us had a band meeting and after serious discussion, decided to take a much-deserved/needed few months’ hiatus to regroup and focus on home life and other individual projects. The ‘few months’ seemed to flow into a bit longer as the summer progressed and we all dug deeper into our lives as individuals outside of ATP.

“Well, we finally regrouped and after much deliberation and thoughtful discussion, we have decided to end the band. There are no hard feelings between us and no bullshit politics. It’s pretty much just the end of an era. To quote George Harrison, ‘all things must pass.’ And so, after 12-plus years of solid ATP mayhem, we call it a day.”

Horse The Band Posts New Video For "Murder" Online

Horse The Band has uploaded their new video for the song "Murder" online. You can check it out below.

Director Gary Lachance says: "The video was filmed live in Belgrade, Serbia midway through Horse's Earth Tour which was self-funded, self-booked and traversed 45 countries in 90 days. The show was packed with crazed Serbians power drinkers who, before entering, had chugged innumerable 3-liter bottles of beer and gorged themselves on 5 pound hamburgers. They had come from far and wide. These were rural wildmen.. hill people. The venue was a cramped, smoky dungeon, with an overflowing bathroom, no security, terrible sound and a tiny stage that emptied onto a slimy concrete staircase, which was to serve as a battleground for the hundred or so fanatics in attendance. Things were looking good. And from the first note, it was nonstop anarchy, a heaving tangle of violence and hilarity as brutish men and merciless women performed a dance of death, hurling themselves and their opponents to the floor, crushing each other in 20-something dogpiles, tearing steel fences from the floor, destroying the few functioning light fixtures, removing their clothes, and coming dangerously close to ruining Horse's equipment and ending the tour." And you know me, I got to keep playing, I got to keep writing music so I don't go crazy, so I decided it would be a perfect time to do this. VOD DVD Release Date Set, Reunion Show Planned

Vision of Disorder, the Long Island-based hardcore band that merged traditional east coast hardcore alongside thrash metal before disbanding in 2002, is set to release “Dead In New York,” a posthumous DVD showcasing the band’s frenetic live shows as well as backstage footage. The band, which only recently reunited for a handful of shows, will play a hometown show at Irving Plaza on Nov. 16 to commemorate the release of the DVD.

“The one thing we always knew when playing hundreds of shows around the world was that our live experience was always a special bond between the band and our fans. It always seemed like a big community at V.O.D. shows,” explains Matthew Baumbach. “What’s amazing about ‘Dead in New York’ is that we were able to capture that exact aspect. It shows everything from the mayhem of the material with people getting knocked out during the crazy breakdowns along with insane crowd sing-a-longs.”

Filmed by Bill Yukich, the DVD includes shows from Long Island and Worcester, Mass. in 2006. Yukich was granted full access to the band, both on stage and off stage, capturing behind the scenes moments that encapsulate a historic part of the hardcore scene. V.O.D. dug deep into their personal archives to provide rarely seen and sometimes never-before-seen footage dating back to 1994.

Aerosmith To Release New Music Via Guitar Hero?

As previously reported, rock legends Aerosmith are currently recording a brand new studio album. However guitarist Joe Perry states that the band may release new songs before release, via Guitar Hero:Aerosmith.

"We'll probably release some of the music from our new record as a download so kids can plug it in and play some new tunes on the game," Perry says.

One thing Aerosmith will keep a keen eye on is the master tapes. When frontman Steven Tyler wanted to include MOTT THE HOOPLE's 'All The Young Dudes' on Guitar Hero: Aerosmith as an homage to an early tour the two bands did together, he was in for a surprise. "I spoke to Ian Hunter and I said, 'Ian, where the fuck is that song?' And he goes, 'I don't know. The masters have been lost forever.'

"But what's really funny is we were talking to the White Stripes and some of their early recordings have gone missing," adds Joe Perry. "I guess that's kind of the last thing on your mind when you're trying to get your record out there. We never thought it would matter that much 30 years later."

Ex-Vader Guitarist Mauser Explains Departure

Mauser, guitarist for Unsun and formerly Vader, has posted the following blog explaining why he left Vader:

“I would like to confirm the news about my departure from Vader and I would also like to explain the reasons for my decision, so that I can clear out all misconceptions and misinterpretations about it.

"For the past six months I have been very busy with my new band - Unsun and I haven't been able to fulfil my duties in both of the bands at the same time. I knew this was coming and I knew I would end up in a situation where I would have to decide if I should leave Vader or not. The upcoming release of my new record with Unsun – The End OF Life as well as very intensive promotion of the album made me realize that the moment to leave has come.

"Therefore I decided to focus entirely on Unsun and nothing else. I have also felt the need to create something entirely new musically, something different than what I have done in the past. I would like to thank all Vader fans for the support you gave me during our shows, because these were really wonderful moments full of indescribable energy. I hope you can all understand my decision for choosing my own path because it is a virtue we all always strive for... No one can tell us what music to listen to, no one can keep us from playing the music that we love... This is what I will always fight for!"

Adversary Signs To Trustkill Records

TRUSTKILL has announced the signing of Virginia's ADVERSARY to the family! Their debut album, "Singularity," will be in stores and online November 11, 2008.

Hailing from Manassas, Virginia's childhood friends, William Clapp, Brad Ryder, Kenny Harrison, Justin Green, and Daniel Tidwell infuse a distinctly American sensibility into their groove heavy brand of metal.

"Singularity"was recorded at Assembly Line Studios in Vienna, Virginia with Kevin "131" Gutierrez (Raven/Dysrhythmia) behind production.

Adversary's Brad Ryder comments:
"When we started this band it was with the intention of doing everything, from songwriting to business, the right way. Accepting the offer from Trustkill was an easy decision. We now have on our side one of the biggest independent labels in the heavy music world, and one that understands what we have to offer to heavy music."

Trustkill's Josh Grabelle remarks:
"It has been a long time since I've heard a band come out of nowhere with 10 songs of absolute metal perfection. Adversary are not the sound of today, they are the sound of tomorrow. Classic metal that even the most finicky of listeners will no doubt appreciate. We are excited to see what happens with Adversary when everyone hears the music!"

You can listen to songs off "Singularity" on the band's MySpace page now.

Anger As Art Readies to Record

LA-based trash band vocalist, Steven Gaines of Anger As Art, gave the following pre-production update on Anger As Arts upcoming release:

"Looking at the calendar - exactly one year ago today we were finishing up a run through the mountain time zone with headlining date in Salt Lake City. Little did we know that it would be Mars last show, but shortly afterwards Dave Chedrick came into the fold and started to push us a little angrier. Enter Angelo Espino, and a lot heavier. Supporting Testament, Laaz Rockit, and Agent Steel (yes again - but we love them - they are family) 2 more west coast runs, one run to the midwest, and even over to Europe, a last show in Los Angeles - and now it is over. Here we sit exactly one year later wondering where the hell the time went - and honestly, we aren't even the busiest band out there."

"As I type this - I reflect on the 4 year history of Anger As Art - specifically all of the people who tried to keep this band from happening. And it is not like there was a vendetta, rather people offering opinions and judgements like how this was never going to do anything! Standing in Record Stores in Europe seeing Anger AS Art CD's in the racks... what a feeling. More is to come! Now, can I download an MP3 of your demo for free?"

"It isn't all roses - there have been many trials this past year. All of us have been able to channel all of the rage, hate, anger and disappointment into our writing - and as we go through our demos for the next and 3rd Anger As Art album, I can assure you that the next offering from us will be exactly what you would expect - only heavier, faster, and with more vitriol.... I am hesitant to say more than that - other than we never forget who we do this for. Thnaks for supporting, and we sill be tracking the next album very soon."

"BY THE WAY - if we do a Festivus show this year, the announcement will be coming in October. "

God Forbid Posts Update

New Jersey based metallers God Forbid has posted the following update online:

“What’s up everybody! Doc here with a quick little update for all concerned parties. Personally, I’ve been off the radar for a while because there really hasn’t been a lot to report. I’m sure many of you were disappointed when it was announced that the album was going to be pushed back to early ‘09. So were we. To make a long story short, Colin Richardson was supposed to mix the album in July so we could get the album out in October, but we ran into some scheduling conflicts and decided to go back to the drawing board as far as mixing. Hence the album release delay.”

“So after about 6 weeks of hearing some awesome test mixes from some of the best metal producers in the biz, we’ve decided on…….drum roll………Jens Bogren. Jens owns and runs Fascination Street Studios in Orebro, Sweden. He’s most known for his incredible production and mixing work with Opeth, Amon Amarth, Soilwork, Katatonia, and Symphony X. The band could not be more excited about this decision, especially considering the varied and dynamic nature of the material featured on the new album.”

“We are so happy with this that we’ve decided to share with the fans the mix that got Jens the job. We will be posting a new God Forbid song that was mixed by Jens from this Friday, Sept 12th through the weekend. So enjoy this little sneak preview while it lasts.”
