yeah buddy! they come out with their first great album, and everyone's bought it. Release the special edition since you know it'll be another decade before they write something like the blackening again. Milk that bastard for all it's worth! Quick before the fans realize what you're up to. suckers.

Suckers? The album, plus a second disc with rares and covers, plus a DVD of live performances? Get a grip dude, some people actually want this stuff. I bet if Dillinger Escape Plan did the exact same thing you would be all praise. But their fans wouldn't be suckers for buying it, right?
10. writes:
you won't catch dillinger whoring their music like this. Even so, I already went and bought their CDs, so if they re-release one and add a DVD and put a $25-30 price tag on it, there's no way in hell I'd buy it. Don't get me wrong, it's true that I adore DEP, but I don't show my affection with money. That's what whores do.
If you bought it once, then a second edition, you're probably paying in upwards of $30-40 for an album you've been listening to for 6-8 months already. I call that "sucker".

We are fans of one of the best metal bands around today, and will buy the special edition CD because the DVD and extra songs make it worth it alone. Nevermind the fact that you also get a truly modern day classic metal album in "The Blackening". And you are an idiot, DEP sucks.

Burn My Eyes is an excellent album.
The More Things Change is good
Through the Ashes of Empires is good
The Blackening is really good
Other two discs have a total of 4-5 good songs.
I also don't buy reissues, but if you like a band your not a whore for buy their dvd...I won't be buy this though. I'll watch the couple live performances I want to see on youtube.

Then why does every DEP cd kick total ass? And every time I saw Machine Head, they got shown up by Coal Chamber, Pantera, and Megadeth. Why is that? If they're so awesome, how come it took them six tries to make a good album?
You're a whore, and you're the reason why products like this are so marketable. That's why Roadrunner can't just release an album, they have to release six different editions, digipak, jewel box, dvd/cd combos, extra tracks, demos, outtakes, etc...people are suckers and if they have the money to spend, they'll spend it on anything.

crawford does have a point, even if he is being a d*** about it. roadrunner do have a habit of milking high-selling albums by bringing out special editions of those albums that have already been released, and it's a pretty money-grubbing task. live dvds are good, i got the "killadelphia" dvd and it came with a free cd, which i didn't have previously, and i got "the impossibility of reason" dvd and that came with a free copy of their ep. unfortunatel i bought the "all hope is gone" special edition cd and it wasn't really worth it, the "making of" dvd was pretty disappointing and the bonus songs weren't very good at all. but to bring out a cd that has already been brought out and throw a bunch of cover songs and a bit of live footage is pretty money oriented if you ask me, which nobody did.
machine head is an awesome band and if you don't have the blackening and you're a machine head fan, get it now, don't wait for this silly re-issue to come out. albums like this need appreciation AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!
i'll shut up now

i hate it when bands release a special bonus disc edition of their latest album, usually on roadrunner, uaually a few months after its normal edition release.
but in this case i dont have the album so i'll buy it and only pay about £3 more for it than i would the first version
17. writes:
yeah however the blackening was released around this time last year, and fair enough if you don't already have it then you have every right to get the "special edition" thing, though they did already rlease a "special edition" album with a dvd of the making of the album.
silly roadrunner

imo machine head sucks and the blackening is their first good album, so there's your explanation.
burn my eyes should have been called burn my ears. I was too busy listening to Slayer and Exodus so it's no wonder that Burn My Eyes came out with little fanfare, and imo, righteously so.
21. writes:
That is fukkin' ridiculous, man, I have to disagree with you. The Blackening doesn't have great songs like (Old Man, I'm Your God Now, Death Church, Rage to Overcome, Davidian, etc.)...what the hell?
You are entitled to your opinion, dude, but I don't think you have even heard one song off of Burn My Eyes...Slayer is fukkin' overrated. Slayer hasn't had a unique album since Seasons in the Abyss..all their sh^t is carbon copy...you got one album - you got them all. Slayer is hardly progressive. I don't have an opinion on Exodus because I don't listen to them. Slayer also has that dumb fukk Kerry King who used to constantly talk sh^t about Robb and Machine Head. Kerry King always find a way to make himself look like an a$$ in practically every interview. Again, you opinion, but i have mine, as well.

Don't you dare say DEP suck ass. You may not appreciate them, but goddamnit these f***ers are crazy, and I have yet to find a band outside of grindcore who showcases the same amount of extremity in their music as DEP.
That having been said, I did like Burn my eyes, but as compared to this new album, that one had far less musical complexity. Back then, MH took full advantage of low tuning to sound as heavy as possible without working too hard. They still play in low tunings I believe, but at least they stepped it up a notch instrumentally with this last album. So that's pretty much the reason this album gets lauded as their best work, and hard-to-please metalheads like Crawford call it their only good album. :p

Well maybe this is where I admit I'm wrong and give the older sh** a second chance. Which album is the one I hear people calling rap-metal? Seriously. I'm not being sarcastic. When I started listening to Death, I listened to EVERYTHING and I kinda oversaturated myself. I'd like to avoid the bad sh**, preferably. Outside of the blackening and burn my eyes, where do i start?
26. writes:
F_A_N you have a fantastic point, machine head have become a lot more technical in their abilities as shown in the blackening. all of their albums are awesome, the burning red is probably my least favourite one but it still has a few good songs on it. i love to listen to bulldozer, clenching the fists, slanderous, five, aesthetics of hate and...others...when i'm really really p***ed off. they get me in such a fired up mood, and i'm not sure why. and crawford, just so you know, their "rap-metal" album was the burning red, like i said, not their greatest album, but still good.
