Exodus Guitarist Gary Holt Takes Shots At Sarah Palin

Band Photo: Exodus (?)
Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has submitted the following blog regarding vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin:
"I hate politicians — all of them. The very nature of their job is to serve the few who spend the most. But the hypocrisy hit an all time high during Sarah Palin’s speech at the Republican convention and the subsequent defense of her ongoing problems at home.
"The 'Family Values' party attacks the media for coverage of her and her family, yet they have no problem parading her knocked-up daughter out there for millions to see as some warped example of Family Values. Am I to believe a pregnant 17 year old girl forced into a sham shotgun wedding to a self proclaimed 'f—ing redneck' is some shining example of 'family values?' Get real, and while you’re at it, get some condoms.
"I guess her and Jamie Lynn Spears can get together and lecture kids on how fantastic life can be as a 15, 16, or 17 year old newlywed mother — if you’ve never have to worry about paying the bills, that is. But I guess we found a brand new way to gain a front row seat to the Republican convention. Bang the nominee for Vice President’s daughter. You even get a shave, haircut, and a new suit as part of the deal!
"But don’t write about her pregnancy. That’s crossing the line. Only parents are allowed to exploit their children for political gain. We should have learned this lesson long ago!"

I know a little more than most about politics. They ALL lie. If you are silly enough to drink the Kool-aid that either side is offering then that's on you. I know they all lie. I am also smart enough not to take political advice from a musician. You wouldn't go to the mechanic for a physical would you??

Another Metaller bashing politicians, what's new? They just seem to bash the Republican ticket though. If they truly were fair, in that "all politicians are corrupt" they would bash the Democratic ticket also. Exodus would be worth listening to, if the albums weren't filled with hatred of Republicans.

I've been thinking the same thing. I'm glad Gary thinks the same way!
Obama is taking the right path in not attacking her because thats EXACTLY what the Republicans would do if it were Obama or Biden's 17 year old, unwed daughter!! The Re-PUGNANT-cans would be all over that. We wouldn't hear the end of it.

AMEN !!!!!! to that.Although I agree with his comment's totally. If nothing else Mcaine chooseing palin dureing this time in her career daughter's pregnancy, investigation of abuse of power, possibly had an affair with her husband's business partner etc.Is a huge sighn of Mcains judgement possibly being bad.I say this not to make light of Palin but we are talking about the people that will be running this country for the next 4 yrs atleast.Let's face it he want's to stay in IRAQ.Were in debt economically,But they have in exess of 7 billion dollar's.But the U.S. has to stay ?!?!?
This guy want's to run this country. He's not telling me he's the right choice. He really is not.The point is if I were running for president I would want a running mate who is as media bullet proof as possible. We really don't need another "C" student in office people. His decision's don't imply that he's looking at the over all picture.

Oi. Why can't they just play music? Certainly they are allowed, and have every right, to speak their opinion; that's not the point. For me, when a band begins ranting about certain divisive issues, their rhetoric is forever tied to them. Depending on the band, it probably wouldn't prevent my listenership but certainly the memory remains intact. Am I the only one?
Mr. Holt's comments certainly are not the most egregious example, but he happened to be the 'metaller-turned-political-commentator' of the day.

AHAHAHAHA, wow, its funny how much people DON'T know about politics these days. Their guitarist is a fag, he must have NOT watched the Democrat National Convention if he is talking about hypocrisy. Yes, let's face it, politics are often corrupt, especially amidst the nation electing a new president in 2 months, the candidates are trying to get undecided voters their trust. But when you have a guy running for pres who is endorsed by Hezbollah and Hamas, as well as former Cuban pres Fidel Castro. and other terrorist organizations, who bashes Christianity and Judaism (even though he is a "christian") and tells other countries not to defend themselves and let the enemies walk all over them (ex. Georgia and Russia conflict) while he is sitting in Hawaii sipping an Iced Tea while the other candidate is being proactive and addressing Russia and letting them know if they'd mess with Georgia that they'd have to go through the U.S. first, and on top of that, all he does is talk about "change" while not elaborating further on the subject. Now, what do we have here? On the RIGHT, we have a war hero who has plenty of foreign experience who will propose drastic tax cuts to boost America's economy and wants to continue drilling offshore to lower the gas prices and wants to shrink government spending, and also will NOT leave Iraq, Afghanistan, or Iran until victory is ensured, and on the LEFT, we have a rascist, tax hiking, pot smoking, religion bashing, price gauging, anti war closet terrorist Marxist extremist who wants everyone to be the same while stealing money from the American populous, who thinks he is "the savior" and wants to SURRENDER in the Middle East. AKA, we have a true patriot who will benefit our country on the RIGHT, and we have an inexperienced communist fa**ot on the LEFT. Sounds like an obvious choice in my opinion. Also, Sarah Palin is a true conservative who has increased Alaska's revenue as governor by lowering taxes, limiting spending, and creating more jobs. And, she's good with guns, she's a PERFECT VP nominee!!!! So, I've made my choice, it wasn't difficult, its all a matter of what's logical for our country, to the rest of you, have fun worshiping a false prophet, the Obamassiah. McCain/Palin 2008 (Mitt Romney 2012)

15. writes:
McCain/Palin are total hypocrites. Obama still listens to lobbyists and special interest groups more than average Americans no matter what he says. I agree with Gary Holt though. Unfortunately there is no independent running for president (i.e. Lou Dobbs if you know who he is). I'll settle for Obama though.l
16. writes:
WHAT THE f*** ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????????
I think you did'nt pay attention to the democratic convention or atleast were high at best.Let me guess your ex military & a republican.Probably White possible racist definitly opinonated & judgemental.Dude you know nothing about Obama (racist fa**ot)lay off the cafiene. We don't need twelve years of republican nonsense Iraq had nothing to do with 911.Just because the terrorist's and communist's want him.It does not mean he's one of them GROW UP !!!!
17. writes:
OK... after reading all that my only comment would be to "blackdog". I totally understand your point and I totally agree. My question to you and everybody else is this. Is it not a politically savvy move to get a female VP? It's all too obvious that he's going for Clinton's votes. So, while I don't agree with him, I do think that he is savvy enough to get Palin as a VP. Palin = republican base, McCain = moderates. He's trying to wrap up the election quick and pull in votes that he would not normally get. Again, very smart politically. As far as music in politics, they should be separate. I know some bands get on their "soap box" in songs and concert, but, IMHO, they should stay out of it.
18. writes:
I'll say it straight up! f*** REPUBLICANS! With their holier than thou bullsh**. And musicians can say what ever the hell they want this is f***ing AMERICA and we are all free men and women entitled to our opinions, if you dont like it dont buy their f***ing records PERIOD
19. writes:
I don't get the problem with musicians putting out a political opinion in this way. He's giving his opinion as a man, not as a musician. Just like you giving your opinion, just like me giving mine (f*** the Republicans, btw).
If a band which has never been politically concerned starts writing political music due to an upcoming election or something, I might have a problem with that. But this is just a man with a job saying what he feels. Just like you, just like me. So unless you also feel that YOU shouldn't give a political opinion, you can't really say a musician shouldn't give one.
20. writes:
Oh it's clear that's exactly what they were doing & it seem's to be working.Because alot of women are identifying with her & yes she has a great record but she's also got some skeleton's.All of which makes you wonder what she's gonna be like in the long run.Let's face it she's only in her 1st term as governor.
23. writes:
What the hell is politics? ^_^ LOL (just kidding)
I'm not too involved with this sort of stuff, but as far as what I'm spoon fed by the media, this guy has some valid points! Don't care who gets the seat, it's not like anyone is going to solve all the important problems, or any problems for that matter...I guess I'm just gonna have to wait and see the results first.
The only good thing about being involved in politics (if you are) is to know what you're up against to get the best you can out of it.
It looks like quite the number of people in the rock industry are against Palin...hmmmmmm*
24. writes:
wow obamassiah. I'm from canada and even I KNOW MORE about American politics than you.
"while the other candidate is being proactive and addressing Russia and letting them know if they'd mess with Georgia that they'd have to go through the U.S. first, and on"
First off, we already had 1 50 year long cold war, and tension between the U.S. and Russia AND China have been on a steep rise for the last decade. So it is nowhere NEAR the U.S. problem to deal with.
Secondly, Lowering gas prices. How long to you expect McCain to stay in office for, 3 weeks? You can't lower gas prices forever. Lower gas prices, WHILE drilling off shore for MORE oil, WHILE fighting a 2 billion dollar a week war in the middle east?
Sarah Palin doesn't know sh**. She's been living ABOVE canada, where absolutely NOTHING happens. The Inuit in the east have more problems than her. Sure anybody can make more jobs and lower taxes when your state doesn't even host half a million people. She can just leech of the rest of the U.S. to cut taxes.
Oh and what exactly will McCain be trying to take victory over? How do you win that "war" in the middle east? It's not even a war, it's an attack on innocent people half way across the world. LOL at McCain and foreign experience. PoW doesn't mean experience, it means don't drop the soap.
I mean, by all means, if you can prove me wrong. I will go get someone to vote for McCain for me. But christ, all of your points are so one sided and arrogant I want to vomit.
35. writes:
To Alec29 - you obviously don't intend to vote - since you think politics is pointless.
Anyway, Holt has every right to express his feelings. He will be affected by the outcome of this presidential election, just like all of us. If he wants to rant to express his feelings, it is, after all, for now, a free country with free speech.
36. writes:
One more thing, just because someone was raised in a military family or currently serving in the military - does not mean they to have support the Republican party.....then again...if someone from the military votes against the Republican party - he/she/they are branded as un-patriotic...talk about hypocritical. My opinion, but fukk the Republican party! I don't want another 4 to 8 years of turmOIL and war, along with a fukked up econoomy. Sorry, I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I have that fukin' hurricane IKE (Eisenhower) to worry about, too.
37. writes:
there's only 3 requirements to be president:
* be a natural born citizen of the united States
* be at least 35 years old
* have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years
Well, that opens to pool up to a lot of dumbasses if you ask me. I'm not keen or either of them. There should be a change to the constitution to make it "harder" to run for president. Just my thoughts on it.
"txmetalhead": I feel your pain. Just went though Gustav here. All of us in NOLA are thinking of you.

40. writes:
"If your not a Democrate in your 20's you have no heart, if you're not a Republican in your 30's you have no brain."
All Obama does is say, "Change change change!" and all the little dumbasses fall for it. But he's just like a rapper: all style and absolutely NO substance. Also, why are all musicians and hollywood types automatically Democrates? Tipper Gore started the PMRC for god's sake, not a Republican. SHE was the one spouting family values 20 years ago but everyone seems to have forgotten that, even Dee Snyder who was openly for Al Gore. If you think for one fu cking second that ANYTHING will change with Obama as president than you have your heads buried so far up your own asses you can't sh it. Not that McCain will change much either, but to just grab ahold of a party because your favorite band or actor do is brain dead. NO ONE tells me who to vote for, especially not MTV, Rolling Stone or the Enquirer. I'll be god-damned if I vote for someone just because they are on every 3rd magazine cover in America or Joe Shmuck guitar player from "haven't-been-relevant-in-20-years" band says so. I personally don't give one rat's a$$ who wins but the more McCain/Palin get bashed the more I'll prolly vote for them and I'm not the only one who feels this way so get ready for another Republican president morons. Keep bashing and see where it gets you.
42. writes:
I havent voted in all 9 years that i was eligible to. And i dont plan to start this year. Because kinda like psythe said democrat and republican are one of the same. You so me a middle class citizen with good morals, and beliefs running for president. Then i might vote.

44. writes:
Wait...'when you were eligible to'?
I think if I ever became president thru my own party (that doesn't exist) I'd let people know I had no morals, no beliefs so that way I don't have some mediafags going "Ooooh look! He's being a hypocrite."
All presidencies now are just popularity contests. These presidents don't have all that much control over how sh** happens. They just talk about what they support, and if you agree, you vote with them. But regardless of how much they may support tax cuts, and all that, they can't really do anything. Thats why Obama being black gets so much attention (I actually support his plans, but I can admit that most of the attention is because he's black), and thats why McCain nominated Palin, so the media attention goes off of Obama. Why? Because this is exactly how the media looks at it. And most of the sheep that make up America roll with it.
**Obama and Hilary in the primaries**
Mediafag: Oh sh**! A black man and a woman who is a former first lady are trying to run!
**Obama wins the primaries.**
**McCain, a stroke victim, a former POW and war hero from 'Nam makes the republican primaries**
Mediafag: OMG! A black man is running for president! Who cares about some old white Republican? We've seen lots of those...
**Discovery that John Edwards-who no one cares about-made a d*** move and had an affair while his wife was dying of cancer**
Mediafag: Holy sh**! Edwards is a scumbag! This is f***ing news!
**Obama nominates Biden as the VP**
**McCain nominates Palin as the VP**
Mediafag: Oh sh**! McCain chose a woman! And she's a MILF too! I gotta cover that one!

My only connection with the military that is left alive does not ever speak of it. He fought in Vietnam. So that reinforces my belief that war is hell. But, so wars are worth fighting. Most are not but I believe that WW2 and Afghanistan had good reasons. Not so much Afghanistan because it seemed more about American revenge (which is okay by me). Although the Taliban did need to be taken out of power. But then so does the governments of Burma, China, Russia, Sudan, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran. But no one will ever have the stones to do it. Oh what a crazy world.
I'd enjoy being American because I wouldn't need to worry about getting in trouble for not voting haha.

Change,Change,Change. If theres something wrong with that then why did McCaine change his platform to the same thing for all intent's and perposes?Wake up people !!!! Ok he was a POW.That does not mean he'll be a good president.HE WANT'S TO STAY IN IRAQ!!!!! WHAT THE f*** DOES THIS TELL YOU !!!!.THE GOT PALIN BECAUSE NOBODY LIKES McCAINE !!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!
51. writes:
Uh.... Blackdog, had you been "awake" your self you would know that McCain a, hates war and b, knows how stupid it is to just pull out of a country the way Odumbass wants to. You may want to look into how Iraq was run, and the fact that Al Queda is still a threat.
52. writes:
If they really wanted to do something about Alqueda they would not have gone to IRAQ.I'm not questioning the man's integrity I'm questioning his judgement.IRAQ had nothing to do with 911.I've been awake the whole time.I've seen no result's.When Isenhauer left office he saide "Beware the Corporate war Machine"That is exactly what we are liveing with right now.

f***ing right on!
every four years, somebody from each side of the phony left/right paradigm come along and distract everybody with the promise of change...and most of the sheople out there fall for it.
if change is what people really want, these characters are not the ones who will give it to you.
as for the war, the issue is not whether the war is right or wrong. the issue is the way wars have been conducted since ww2. that war brought us out of the depression, because of the creation of the military industrial complex. war was not a huge industry for this country until that point.
ever since, while most wars are started for a legitimate cause, they are run like a business...for profit. that is why we can't do what russia was able to do in one week...crush the enemy.
if we were in it to win, we would have really taken afghanistan and iraq in a matter of a month or two, but why do that when we can keep it going in order to line the pockets of ceo's of huge corporations (the same corporations that contribute to/own both sides, so whoever wins...they win too). let the military and soldiers do what they were trained to do...f***ing win.
you want change, you can't work from the top down...start on the local level, and then work your way up. focus on your local candidates, then state representatives & then worry about which of the two piles of sh** smells better in the white house.
