Metallica's "Death Magnetic" held on to the No. 1 spot on The Billboard 200 for a second week after its first full sales week on the charts, beating out Ne-Yo and Nelly. "Death Magnetic" sold 337,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan; it debuted with 490,000 last week after just three days of sales thanks to an off-cycle Friday release.

In the U.K., Metallica beat out Kings Of Leon, Ne-Yo and Queen + Paul Rodgers to stay atop the new U.K. sales charts released on September 21.

Metallica was also held the number 1 spot in Canada and 26 other countries around the world.

I've been told that this new CD of theirs reflects on their style from the 80's. Is it true or just another CD to avoid knowing how much they've changed from The Black album?

Perhaps the best album since the Black album, but the glimpses of the 80s Metallica are faint and brief, if not mere hallucinations born of desire.

It's not anything like those albums really. It's St Anger trying to be Justice.

This new album is absolute class. It gets better with every listen. To compare it
to their old stuff is wrong. There are similarities but this is a new metallica album
that kicks the a$$ of their previous three. It is up there with there best stuff and
this album in years to come will be classed as being part of their best stuff.
If you liked anything black album and past then you should love this. imo....

Okay, everyone is entitled to their own opinon. All I keep hearing is that this album sounds like And Jusice For all....WHAT? I can't hear that! True I am am an "old Metallica" fan, but I tried to fall in love with this cd, I can't. Stop comparing this cd to something that they NO longer sound like, it is very misleading!!!!! I also hear people saying oh well thay got older and progressed, all I have to say to that is Slayer, Malevolent Creation..............still progressing and KICKING ASS. SO, there are old fans and news fans let's all agree on that and be done with it.

Death is a good effort, but not the greatest Metallica cd ever. It 's Metallica now, and thats as much as can be said. I'm not completely satisfied with it's production. It doesn't blow me away production wise. St, Anger was a like 4 out of 10 on the production scale. This one is a 6. It should have been a crisp and dynamic as the Black Album still is. I really thought having Rick Rubin meant we would get a newer fatter sounding Metallica...instead I've been rading Rick's only contribution was verbal inspiration???? Not at all what I was expecting! Why does his work with the Chilli Peppers sound so good, yet with Metallica it was just average? Then within the past few days there are reports that the Guitar Hero Versions of D. M. sound better than the cd. Judjing from what I heard it's true. From my own research the audio of a video game disc is comparable to DVd and Super audio. Both of which record at a higher dynamic range, resulting in a cleaner more crisp sound. Hopefully it will be rereleased. If not my suggestion to all that care would be to burn a new copy of DM onto a dvd....It may do the trick!

I don't think the album sounds anything like their older work, but you can see the effort to try and do just that.

To me, Death Magnetic sounds like the Black album trying to be Thrash, but failing horribly.
So you end up not geting awesome thrash OR the safety zone of the Black album out of this. but I do like some songs, like The Judas Kiss and All Nightmare Long, worth checkin out in my opinion, pretty good stuff actually...
