Pantheist Parts Ways With Guitarist

Pantheist has issued the following update about parting ways with their guitarist:

"Following 3 great years of collaboration, fantastic times at gigs, in tour vans and the studio, we have sadly decided to part ways with guitarist Pete Benjamin (Akercocke, Corpsing, For the Blind). For the upcoming gigs this year, our Belgian, Czech and Polish fans will have the opportunity to witness Pantheist with Esoteric's Greg Chandler joining Ilia on guitar duties. We are really excited about this one-off set of appearances, as Greg, who engineered our latest album 'Journey Through Lands Unknown', brings his own flair into our music.

"Following these concerts we will be looking into recruiting a suitably talented and open-minded replacement for Pete. We are looking for someone capable of both rhythm and lead guitar, with their own equipment, suitable for live performances and willing to commit to at least 3 rehearsals a month in London, England. Live and recording experience and skills in other instruments are not necessary but highly welcome. If you feel you are the right person for the job, contact the band at pantheistuk(at)googlemail.com or through our myspace site."

Abigail Williams Announces Special Edition Album

Candlelight Records has announced two limited edition versions of Abigail Williams debut album, "In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns," which will be released on January 12th. The deluxe edition will feature a bonus disc containing five previously unavailable tracks plus the band's video for the song “Into the Ashes.”

Discussing the deluxe edition, vocalist/guitarist Sorceron commented “The first song, 'I Am (God)' is a new song that signifies the first collaboration between new keyboard player Alana and myself. 'In Death Comes the Great Silence' reveals a new direction that the band has been working towards over the last year while 'Infernal Divide' is another new song that once again redefines that Abigail Williams sound. This track was recorded quite raw and has a strong black metal influence. 'Waiting for the Rain' is a somber interlude we have been using a bit during live shows and the last track is the demo version of 'Floods.' I felt it was important to include this track because it captures the vibe of the song better than the album track; perhaps due to the work of original drummer Zack Gibson.”

The video for "Into the Ashes" was filmed under the London Bridge in late 2008. Sorceron recalls, “we were in this dungeon-like area that they used to store dead bodies in. We felt right at home, minus the smell, of course."

Confirmed dates for Abigail Williams with Nile are: More...

Opeth Members Involved In Bus Accident

Opeth front man Mikael Akerfeldt has issued the following statement about keyboardist Per Wiberg and bassist Martin Mendez being involved in a bus accident:

"Myself, Axe, Fredrik and our soundman, Pontus Norgren decided to fly home to our families for a few days as the option would have been 3 days off in Brussels. Now I hear that our bus apparently crashed into this other car making a unexpected U-turn in the middle of the highway. Mendez and Per were on the bus together with the rest of our crew but nobody got hurt. They are however shocked and very shaken of course. The driver in the other car was critically injured. I've not heard back from anyone yet regarding his progress but apparently it's not looking very good. Hoping for the best however.

"I don't know where or when this happened but I know the bus was heading from Dublin to Brussels. I'll let you know more as soon as I get some information, but as for now everyone in the band are safe and same with our crew. As far as I know the only injured person was the driver of the other car, which obviously is horrible enough!

"To be honest, I rarely think about things, accidents like this, but fuck man, it happens! My mind's all over the place and right now I don't want to go back out. But...the show in Brussels on the 17th and the remaining part of the tour will go ahead as planned."

UPDATE: Mikael Akerfeldt has since issued a new statement about the accident.

Shadow Gallery Posts New Song Online

Pennsylvania progressive metallers SHADOW GALLERY have launched a new promo song off their 6th studio effort "Digital Ghosts," which will be released on November 3rd, 2009 in North America via InsideOutMusic. The song, "Gold Dust," can be heard on their MySpace page.

SHADOW GALLERY’s Brendt Allman comments on the song: "'Gold Dust' is one of the 1st songs that I started writing for this new record. I just loved the D/ B flat/ E progression used in the chorus, then I just built the other parts around that. I knew that it could be a strong chorus and it turned out to be one of the best on the record. I particularly love the simplicity of the chord changes in the second half of the song, riding one note on the guitar in machine gun fashion while having pretty chord changes over the top of it. I love the fact that there are 4 lead vocalists on that section as well." More...

Scarpoint Checks In From The Studio

Sweden's Scarpoint has checked in with the following studio recording update:

"Hey fuckers! Sitting on the commuter train on my way to the studio, when I just realized that I hadn't posted a report for several days. So we are almost finished with the mix. I guess we have 2 days left before this master piece is finished. We've managed to get all the small details in the songs that we wanted and not stress to get the product done. This has allowed us to make rearrangements in the songs and we are having problems deciding which order the songs will be in. We are also starting to rehearse the songs and will be start auditioning some guitarists in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I will post the last studio report tomorrow until then, as always, stay twisted fuckers!"

Metalunderground.com Premieres New Gwynbleidd Song

Metalunderground.com is proud to offer an exclusive premiere of Brooklyn, New York death/black/folk/doom metal band GWYNBLEIDD's new song, entitled "Thawing Innocence." The song comes from Gwynbleidd's upcoming new album "Nostalgia," which is due out on October 27 via BlackCurrant Music. Check the song out right here:

Founded and based in New York City, Gwynbleidd is a band whose four members all hail originally from Poland. It is this experience -- leaving one’s homeland and relocating halfway across the world -- that served as the original inspiration for Nostalgia. Gwynbleidd guitarist/vocalist Maciej Kupiszewski explains:

“The concept for the album started with the theme of nostalgia -- memories of childhood and places left behind, influenced mainly by the fact that the members of the band all moved from Poland to the States in their early teens. Although the band is based in Brooklyn, New York, in the heart of the biggest city in the US, the music conveys a yearning toward primeval and pristine wilderness landscapes. We took this theme of nostalgia and developed a whole story around it -- a paradoxical tale of yearning, deceit, and treason.”

Gwynbleidd will be touring throughout 2010. In the past two years, the band has played across the US and Canada with the likes of Novembers Doom, Turisas, Kalmah, Bal-Sagoth, and Slough Feg, including slots on festivals such as Chicago Powerfest, Heathen Crusade, and the travelling Pagan Fest. Gwynbleidd has also performed with the Ballet Deviare dance company (which counts Opeth, My Dying Bride, and Arsis amongst its other musical collaborators.)

The tracklisting for Gwynbleidd's "Nostalgia" is as follows:

1. Nostalgia
2. Egress
3. New Setting
4. Stormcalling
5. Adrift
6. Thawing Innocence
7. Stare Into The Sun
8. Canvas For Departure
