The Hirsch Effekt Reveals New EP Details
German progressive metal trio The Hirsch Effekt have announced their new EP, "Solitaer," out 26th August via Long Branch Records. The band has also released a new lyric video for the song, "Nares," which can be seen below.
The social distancing restrictions of the Corona era prompted The Hirsch Effekt to take a radical step: what if you not only recorded by yourself for the next release, but also wrote the songs completely alone? One song per band member. And so came about the concept of "Solitaer," which means "living individually" and thus represents the antonym to gregarious - Social distancing as a song writing concept. The opinion of the other band members was welcome, but required no necessity and didn’t need to influence the work of the respective musicians. In the end three songs were created - all of which showcase typical characteristics, that are part of the The Hirsch Effekt recipe, but do not sound like typical The Hirsch Effekt songs. It not only sounds like an extremely exciting experiment, but also frankly speaking: exceedingly extreme. The "Solitaer" EP is rounded off by a band version of the song "Gregaer," which was originally created as an orchestral version.
"Solitaer" will be released as limited and serially numbered LP Edition incl. black vinyl, Exclusive Napalm Records Shop Edition incl. coloured vinyl, CD Edition incl. both "Solitaer" and "Gregaer" EPs, stream and download. Also The Hirsch Effekt's latest vinyl EP "Gregaer" is now available again as a limited reissue with red coloured LP.

Extinction A.D. Warns Of A "Culture Of Violence"
Crossover thrash is a term which can be easily applied to some bands, but it's still perhaps a bit of a loose term. After all, thrash metal itself was inspired by hardcore punk to begin with, so to try and label a portion of it as being more hardcore influenced is perhaps a little strange. Nonetheless, it's a fond tag and one that assures the listener of what they're in for. It may have reached it's zenith with bands like Suicidal Tendencies and Cryptic Slaughter, but the sub-genre is still going strong today, with one of the strongest examples being Long Island's, Extinction A.D.
Having been formed by members of This Is Hell last decade, Extinction A.D. released their first EP, "Plague Prophecy" (a somewhat eerie title in the modern world) in 2014, with their debut full length, "Faithkiller" following the next year. While their next album, "Decimation Treaty" would hit the shelves in 2018, the group were always hard at work on material and looking well past the next album, honing their craft and becoming one of the hardest working bands in the game.
Perhaps it's easy to forget just how hard some bands do work, but when catching up with frontman Ricky Jimenez to discuss their latest opus, "Culture Of Violence," it became very clear, very fast, just how diligent the quartet are. "Culture Of Violence" is out now and after reading (or watching) the story of how it came to be, you'll surely want to give it a spin yourself.
Diamond Oz: The new album, "Culture Of Violence" is out now. What can you tell me about the title of the album?
Rick Jimenez: The title of the album was almost the last thing that we settled on. The only thing done after the title was the artwork, which was a result of the title. It was the last song that we wrote lyrically. It kind of ties in everything the band has always spoken about, especially on this album and over the last couple of years. Everything's been crazy. We've all lived through kind of the same stuff, we just have different perspectives on it.More...It was almost by the time the final song was being written, instead of focusing on one specific occurence or my reaction to one specific topic, it was like a summation of everything the band and the album had been about. By the time I had that in my mind that was the direction I was going lyrically, the song kind of wrote itself and the first line in the song, "Unending culture of violence...", that's what we've been living in for thousands of years.
I should maybe only speak for my own existence, that's forty one years. "How is everything resolved?" A power play that results in violence, whether that's physical, mental or otherwise. Then, you know, I don't want to say "simplify" things but you write things in, I guess in my style, a pseudo philosophical way, maybe sometimes in a hip hop approach to a metal album. We had a different album for probably about two years, but once that song was written, everybody was just like, "Yo, that's cool," so that's the way that we went.

Scarlata Premiere Track Off Upcoming Album
Located in Boulder, Colorado, Scarlata, a self-taught instrumentalist, produces dynamic tracks that show off a wealth of heavy and soaring styles. Song writing began in earnest back in 2016 and the summer of 2020 saw the release of the debut EP "Metal-Baby" fully self-produced. Predominantly instrumental, the new album delivers both the hard-hitting and fast-paced, as well as soaring ballad elements. “Ch’i Ling’s Spell” kicks off "Power Through" diving into complex guitar melodies and energetic rhythms. A tranquil mood manifests in the opening of “Fruition of Justice”, before exploding into heavy distortion. The title track is a fusion of melodic guitars, distortion and experimentation. The changing pace produces a darker sound, showing off further versatility of Scarlata’s creativity.
"Power Through" combines the thrill and impact of punk, with groove rhythms and intricate melodies; it’s an energizing record. Scarlata seeks to inspire the listener towards their own passions and inner callings, "Power Through" is an epic passion project.
Scarlata had the following to say regarding the premiere:
"It feels so good to finally be doing this after seven years of figuring all of this out!!! " Joker's Wild" carries the momentum from my EP that I released in 2020. It marks the beginning of my "creative flow" dating back to late 2016 / early 2017. Today, here it is revamped in good form for the "Power Through" album!" More...
Vader Reveals New Drummer
Polish death metal giants Vader has announced that they have parted ways with English drummer James Stewart. Replacing him behind the kit is Michal Andrzejczyk. A statement from the band reads as follows:
"Vadermaniax! As many of you already noticed, there is a new drummer in Vader since the beginning of 2022. Michal Andrzejczyk joined Vader on tour in Poland in February (Awakening of Tyrants Tour 2022) and you could watch his debut in Wroclaw at the club A2. Michal (vel. Michael) started to work with James Stewart with Vader songs already in 2021, then we rehearsed few times together with whole band in our brand new practice room later on. James decided to leave Vader during our tour in US in 2020, however, he was playing and working with us as long as necessary until the new drummer was ready to replace. Peter did not want to make it official until you could experience in own eyes and ears his high level and spirit of this very young but already very powerful drummer. And this is just the beginning.
"James Stewart took a decision and we respect it. He spent over ten years (!!!) with Vader recording many great albums and playing hundreds of crazy shows worldwide. That was the most stable line up in band's history. James will definitely explain all in his own words soon. We wish him best luck in his bands and projects and THX for all those crazy years spent together as a real band."
Septicflesh Shares "Neuromancer" Video
Symphonic death metal masters Septicflesh have revealed a new video for their magnificent new single "Neuromancer". The track thunders along with a fierce groove whilst allowing for flourishes of otherworldly atmosphere to permeate the seemingly impenetrable wall of sound. You can watch the video below.
Guitarist, vocalist and lyricist Sotiris Anunnaki V. comments "A technologically advanced society, where morals decline and crime thrives, is the “stage” of this song. The main character is suffering from severe neural damage. In order to receive a cure, and be able to physically reconnect to the global network, he accepts an obscure hacking mission. After all, the virtual reality data space, to him, is more like home.
"The skeleton of the song was structured upon the 12 string guitar. The main melody and the various emotional tones of the song, were crafted upon this more organic-sounding instrument. Then, after arrangement decisions were taken, the song turned out the way you hear it. Besides the strings, brass, and other standard orchestra sections used, a mandolin takes a lead role preparing for the climax of the addictive chorus and the ultra-heavy main riff. Also, there is a more theatrical interaction with the various vocal styles within our arsenal in this song." More...
