Spirit Adrift Shares Pantera Cover
February 25th, 2022 marks the 30 year anniversary of Pantera’s "Vulgar Display of Power," one of heavy music’s most influential albums. To pay tribute to this landmark Spirit Adrift, hailing from Austin, TX, have covered "Hollow."
"'Vulgar Display of Power' was a massive influence on my understanding of powerful songwriting, memorable arrangements, riffing, drumming, singing, and heavy metal in general," says Nate Garrett (guitar and vocals). "I studied the entire album from an early age, and the standout track to me has always been ‘Hollow’. It is dynamic, emotional, unpredictable, and perfectly suited for the style of Spirit Adrift. Covering such a great song by such a legendary band is not something I took lightly. I channeled every ounce of obsession and attention to detail into our version, making sure that we honored the original song while introducing some of our trademark elements to make it our own. Pantera are one of those bands that taught me how to play music, and I hope Spirit Adrift's version of ‘Hollow’ does justice to their legacy." More...
Ithaca Unveils "They Fear Us" Video
Acclaimed UK metallic hardcore troupe Ithaca have released their stunning new video for the single "They Fear Us," the first glimpse of their long-awaited second album, "They Fear Us," due 29th July via Hassle Records. You can check it out below.
In the words of Ithaca: "Making this video was one of the hardest but most creatively fulfilling things we've ever done as a band. We shot in multiple locations over multiple days, we stripped down to our underwear, we swallowed fake blood - we put everything into it!
"The video is about reclaiming power - our main location was in a stately home of the British landed gentry, to create a contrast between us and the colonial imagery on the walls, representing us kicking down doors and taking up space. The visuals are influenced by experimental cinema, religious iconography and pre-Raphaelite paintings. We set this level of ambition to announce ourselves as an unapologetic, inescapable force in the heavy music scene - you will fear us." More...
Slaegt Releases New Music Video
Danish black/heavy metal outfit, Slaegt (aka Slægt, meaning "lineage" / "heritage" in Danish language and pronounced /sl?gt/), have launched their second single, "Kiss From A Knife," off their upcoming, fourth studio album, "Goddess," to be released worldwide on March 18 via Century Media Records. Check out the video for "Kiss From A Knife" below.
Slaegt states about the track, "’Kiss From A Knife’ is in some ways the most aggressive and chaotic song we have written to date. But, as the vigilant ones know, a certain order can arise from chaos, if the powers within are harnessed carefully and with the right intent. The lyrics to the song deal with the union, that can occur in interactions, that initially look separating rather than uniting. This might seem like a paradox, but sometimes, the greatest truths in life are found in the biggest contradictions."
"Goddess" was recorded and mixed by Martin ‘Konie’ Ehrencrona (Refused, In Solitude, Viagra Boys, Tribulation) at Studio Cobra as well as mastered by Magnus Lindberg (The Hellacopters, Cult of Luna, Dool) at Redmount Studios, both in Stockholm, Sweden in late 2021. The album comes with stunning artwork created by Dávid Glomba (Svartidaudi, Cult Of Fire, Malokarpatan) and showcases Slaegt’s most elaborated and accomplished work to date across 6 songs and 40 minutes of playing time. Gladenfold Posts New Music Video Online
Finnish Melodic Metal band Gladenfold are going to release their third studio album, “Nemesis,” on April 29th via Reaper Entertainment. As a kick-off, the band has released the first single and music video titled “Stone of Storms” and launched the album pre-order. You can check it out below.
Guitarist Toke Gerdts states:
"Like most great music, 'Stone Of Storms' came together rather quickly. Being one of the initial songs we demoed for the upcoming album, it has stayed largely the same since then. Out of the album singles, it is the one which owes the most to classic power metal, while being a modern take on the Gladenfold sound. This song is definitely going to claim its place in our live set, and we are eager to return to the stage and perform this song in the years to come."
