Firewind Added To Dragonforce North American Tour

As previously announced, DragonForce will headline the North American Extreme Power Metal tour in spring 2022, featuring Visions of Atlantis and Seven Spires. Today, DragonForce announces a lineup change, swapping previous opener Battle Beast for power metal legends Firewind.

Firewind will join DragonForce as a part of Firewind's 20th anniversary tour, performing a "best-of" set, as well as fan favorites from their catalog and songs from their most recent release. Featuring the guitar-wizardry of Gus G (Ozzy Osbourne, solo) and the epic vocals of singer Herbie Langhans (Avantasia), Firewind is sure to put on an unforgettable show.

"Unfortunately, due to unexpected circumstances, Battle Beast is no longer able to make it on tour. We will miss them, but we are beyond excited to share the stage with our good friends in Firewind," guitarist Herman Li says. "Firewind is legendary, Herbie Langhans has an incredible voice, and Gus G is one of the best guitarists around today. I can't wait to hear Firewind's 20th Anniversary set, I know the fans are going to love it."

Eight Bells Uploads "The Well" Video

Eight Bells are now revealing the dark melancholic video single "The Well" taken from their forthcoming new album "Legacy of Ruin," which is scheduled for release on February 25, 2022. You can check out the video below.

"This song's story is particularly personal for me," explains singer and guitarist Melynda Jackson. "It explores the emotions and fears of pastoral 'salt of the earth types' looking over the land that no longer yields a good harvest as a metaphor describing their lives. Mourning the bountiful past and coming to realize that they themselves are responsible for a bleak future. Melynda Amann, who was a member during the writing of this track, is also singing with us, while Andrea Morgan adds haunting ambience with his violin." More...

Sum Of R Unveils New Single "Crown Of Diseased"

Every story has a beginning, no matter how unlikely. And the story of the new incarnation of Sum Of R, the project that Reto Mäder formed in 2007 and has led as the only fixed member ever since, began with some really good news, and then some really bad news, because you never know where magic is going to come from.

2020, remember that? Before the world went weird, Sum Of R were supposed to tour, a trek which included a much distinguished Roadburn appearance. The line-up for the tour was already set to be a duo, with Reto joining forces with drummer Jukka Rämänen, known for his presence in such luminaries of the groundbreaking Finnish psych scene as Dark Buddha Rising, Atomikylä or the supergroup Waste Of Space Orchestra (Oranssi Pazuzu & Dark Buddha Rising), not to mention Hexvessel and Dust Mountain. A power duo, in the true sense of the word. Because Roadburn is special, Reto thought about having a guest singer for that particular performance, and once you already have a connection established with the mighty Dark Buddha Rising – a connection first established on the joint Dark Buddha Rising / Sum Of R tour of 2018, by the way –, why look further? Enter vocalist Marko Neuman (also of Convocation and, naturally, the all-consuming Waste Of Space Orchestra), who would make them a remarkable and unlikely trio just for that evening.

Then, as we know, the world changed, and both the tour and Roadburn itself didn’t happen. In one of the best examples of there being a silver lining to almost every bad situation, Reto tried to make something positive of the situation and booked the first possible flight after the first lockdown in his native Switzerland to travel to Finland for three weeks of studio recording with the line-up that never was, Jukka and Marko. And boom: magic happened. As Reto puts it, "We had such a good and intense as well as grateful and creative time together that it could not be more natural that Marko also became a part of Sum Of R through these common experiences. For Jukka and me, Marko's voice is like a transmitter to another dimension." More...

Voices Of Ruin Releases New Music Video

The Orange County, California-based melodic death metal quintet Voices Of Ruin have unveiled the music video for "Reach Toward The Sky," the latest single from their 2020 full-length and M-Theory Audio debut, "Path To Immortality." The video clip - shot and edited by Vintersea bassist Karl Whinnery while both bands were on tour together during the Fall of 2021 – can be viewed below.

"We're very excited to release our new music video featuring live footage from the latest Darker Western Skies tour with Vintersea and Dawn of Ouroboros! It was pretty special to get back on the road and perform nightly after close to two years of not playing shows,” states singer Dave Barrett. “Being together with the boys and raging the stage was magical! 'Reach Toward The Sky' is one of the more dynamic songs we've ever released and this tour was our first time playing it live. Karl from Vintersea is a magician behind the camera and he did an excellent job capturing the debauchery and wild times out there on the road! From slamming beers and taking shots to shredding alongside Vintersea and Dawn of Ouroboros, the Darker Western Skies tour was a blast!" More...

Konvent Posts New Music Video Online

March 11, 2022 will see Danish brutal death doom metal act Konvent strike back with their brand new album, "Call Down The Sun," via Napalm Records.

Undoubtedly inspired by recent dark times and as the new single and video clip proves, the band‘s sophomore album is more pissed off, fast-paced and pitch black throughout. Rikke Emilie List‘s guttural, sublime growls and fierce screams perfectly integrate with a heavy as hell wall of blackened death and funeral doom metal riffs from guitarist Sara Helena Nørregaard, backed by a thick, profound rhythm section provided by bassist Heidi Withington Brink and drummer Julie Simonsen.

Today, following the previously released first single "Grains," Konvent have shared a new, fierce track taken from "Call Down The Sun!" With "Pipe Dreams," the Copenhagen four-piece not only unleashes hurricanes of blackened death doom metal, but a killer band performance in a brand new video clip!"

"'Pipe Dreams' dives deep into the heart of manipulation, whether it be by a person, an institution or an entire industry," vocalist Rikke reveals. "In the 'Pipe Dreams' factory, insecure people are deceived, exploited and told that their biggest dreams are just about to come true.."

After their debut full-length album, "Puritan Masochism," took the entire doom and heavy metal scene by storm upon its release two years ago, Konvent returns with a sophomore offering that doubles down on the band‘s songwriting talent and brutal, heavy sound! The sonic evolution of Konvent over the course of just two years is immediately evident on Call Down The Sun, surprising with new elements at every turn. Recorded and mixed by Lasse Ballade at Ballade Studios, Copenhagen and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege Studio, the new album‘s thunderous apocalyptic sound is impossible to escape. "Call Down The Sun" a refreshing, vibrant record that is not only poised to top 2022 Album Of The Year lists, but reign as one of the best death and blackened doom metal records of modern times! Lethal Fright Shares Blaze Bayley Collaboration

Lethal Fright has released a new single and music video for "Low Frequencies," featuring very special appearances of Blaze Bayley (Solo, Wolfsbane, ex-Iron Maiden), Derek Sherinian (Sons of Apollo, ex-Dream Theater) and Jonas Schütz (Sacrosanct, Sapiency). Lethal Fright is led by Douglas Arruda (vocals and bass) and also have Nunes Italiano on the guitars.

"Low Frequencies" stands out for having a lot of groove and will be one of the songs on the next album, scheduled or mid-2022. Having the enigmatic title "LF-MMXX," the sequel promises elaborate songs, offering common themes between the songs although not envisioned as a concept album," said the vocalist and leader of the band, Douglas Arruda.

"Low Frequencies" was produced by the band itself, and mixed by the legendary producer Kevin Shirley, who became famous for working with Aerosmith, Rush, Journey, Silverchair and other popular names. He worked with Dream Theater, and produced every Iron Maiden album since the 2000s. ”Working with Kevin was surreal, Nunes and I are fans from one of his greatest productions, the Scenes From a Memory album from Dream Theater. A true masterpiece!” said the vocalist. “It was a unique opportunity, and also on a way to experiment. In fact, the members’ passion for both Iron Maiden and Dream Theater goes further with this release. "Somehow Low Frequencies combines the best elements from these two bands, within our vision and interpretation of course! Now imagine what is having Blaze Bayley and Derek Sherinian collaborating on the same song? Sounds like a dream!." More...
