Quartz Announces New Album

Birmingham, England heavy metal veterans Quartz has announced that they will be releasing a brand new album entitled, "On The Edge Of No Tomorrow" on May 20th through Cherry Red Records. The album includes the final recordings from former Quartz and Black Sabbath keyboardist Geoff Nicholls, who passed away in 2017, as well as guest vocals from ex Black Sabbath singer Tony Martin.

Although Quartz are often viewed as mainstays of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s, in truth they were more of an influence on the movement, their origins predating the NWOBHM by a number of years.

The significance, relevance and importance of this album cannot be simply measured in just terms of music, because it’s so much more than that. The band hope that this will give the listener an insight into the amount of work, under some extreme difficulties and associated emotional feelings involved, in the completion and the eagerly anticipated release of their latest studio album that both honours and pays tribute to Geoff Nicholls’ legacy.

You can pre-order the album here.

Heterochrome To Release New Album In May

Heterochrome, from Iran, has a second album coming out this year "From The Ashes." Their last album "Melancholia" came out in 2017 to rave media reviews from around the world. The writing and production of this new offering has taken four years to complete and was recorded in multiple countries including Iran, Finland, Canada, Spain, and South Korea, while the mastering took place in Russia. Unlike the first album, this album features a lot of recorded acoustic instruments including live acoustic drums and cello. The first single is "Baraye Farda, For Tomorrow" and one of the last songs put on the album. The band explains how it came to be:

"This track started as Arash was pondering on climate change, global warming, and the general state of danger our world and home planet is in. After writing the first verse and chorus he sent it to Mida, who instantly fell in love with it even before hearing what it meant to Arash. Mida immediately got to writing the second verse, drawing from the sociopolitical environment of Iran and letting Arash know they needed the song in the album. This is one of our favorite tracks, coming from different backgrounds, it can be interpreted differently for any individual listener."

With a wide variety of influences ranging from progressive rock to 90s and beyond alternative and gothic scenes, Heterochrome merges Iranian social and political issues into melancholy and diverse music. "From the Ashes'' was written as a concept album, with every single track forming a small part in a bigger picture. Each track has a unique story by itself and can be enjoyed individually, but the album has been tailored with smooth transitions between them.

The single and video for "Baraye Farda, For Tomorrow" can be seen and heard below. "From The Ashes" will be released on May 13, 2022.

Van Canto Posts "Turn Back Time" Video Online

This past summer, Germany's most thundering voices Van Canto set free their eighth studio album, "To The Power Of Eight," to spread their unique soundscapes as the world's most exciting acapella metal masters. Now, the energizing powerhouse is ready to impact the new year with their unique Rakataka-style by unveiling a brand new atmospheric music video for "Turn Back Time," cut from their latest full-length. The harmonizing song appeals to the calmer side of the multifaceted outfit and showcases the wide range of creativity that Van Canto stands for since releasing their first record, "A Storm To Come," in 2006.

Van Canto on "Turn Back Time":
“'Turn back Time' is a ballad that has quite a history behind it. I wrote it together with Bastian back in 1999 for our former band Jester's Funeral. At that time, the instrumentation was more like 'Bard's Song', with acoustic guitars and a lead singer. We never finished the songwriting on this one, and over 20 years later we came across it again while listening through old demos.

"Since the lyrics are about what would happen if you could turn back time (but maybe you don't even want to), we thought it would fit quite well that a composition from our teenage years would finally see the light of day on the eighth album of a seasoned band. Listening to the song now, you'd think it had always been written for Van Canto and with eight singers in mind." More...

Cave In Reveals New Album Details

Cave In makes a highly anticipated return with their Relapse Records debut, Heavy Pendulum, their first full studio record in over a decade. The band sees a revival following the addition of Nate Newton (Converge, Doomriders, Old Man Gloom) on bass and vocals. A video for the single, "New Reality," directed by Michael Gilday, can be found below.

Guitarist/vocalist Stephen Brodsky comments: "Cave In’s been around for over 25 years now, and the time has come for an album that scales all of our creative peaks. Talk about a wild and weird ride! And here we are with 'Heavy Pendulum' - it certainly feels like a remarkable event, given the erratic trajectory of our band. 'New Reality' was always the lead-off track - that was pretty obvious during the writing process. New lineup, new label, new album... a new reality indeed, and it all adds up to a new lease on life for Cave In."

Heavy Pendulum is out May 20 on DLX 2xLP/2xLP/CD/CS/Digital. Physical pre-orders are available via Relapse.com here. Deluxe 2xLP comes with a poster and album slipmat.

Produced by Kurt Ballou at God City, "Heavy Pendulum" showcases everything that has long established Cave In as one of the best contemporary rock, hardcore, and metal bands since their monumental 1998 debut "Until Your Heart Stops." From the driving tracks such as crushing opener "New Reality" to the metallic edge of "Blood Spiller," "Heavy Pendulum" sees Cave In look back at their discography and capture their most memorable, visceral, and forward-thinking moments to create a record that is all at once familiar and in true Cave In fashion, ahead of the mainstream. Darkher Shares "Love's Sudden Death" Video

Darkher are now premiering the bitter-sweet video single "Love’s Sudden Death" taken from the beloved Northern English doom act's sophomore album "The Buried Storm," which has been chalked-up for release on April 15th.

The black and white clip "Love’s Sudden Death" was filmed on location at Long Dike Moor, which lies between Hebden Bridge and Haworth in West Yorkshire – and is also very close to Top Withens, the moorland that inspired the Brontë Sisters' novels and poetry.

Darkher comments: "The third single taken from 'The Buried Storm', is titled 'Love's Sudden Death' and it takes the shape of a dark romantic ballad, which was heavily inspired by the mood of an ancient landscape", writes the enigmatic Jayn Maiven "Dramatic, beautiful, and sometimes bleak, the emotions evoked by Long Dike Moor appear to perfectly mirror the feelings captured within the song."

You can pre-order the album at this location. More...

Ou To Release Debut Album In May

Progressive metal quartet OU (pronunciation: “O”) have announced their debut album, "One," due out on May 6 via InsideOutMusic. A teaser clip can be found below, and the album will be available for pre-order beginning March 25. The first single, "Travel," will be released on the same day.

Hailing from Beijing, China, the group combine a variety of elements and influences (Devin Townsend, The Gathering, Radiohead to name a few), to create their extremely unique sound.

On their debut, OU set out with only one clear goal in mind, and that was to make certain that every song had its own unique identity.

Agathodaimon Posts New Music Video Online

Rejoining forces after many years of silence, Agathodaimon’s long-awaited comeback album, "The Seven," is one not to miss! The bittersweet seventh record of the German dark metal force will drop this Friday, March 18 via Napalm Records. The brand new ten track offering stays true to their old-school spirit and hits with new vigor, one hard to pigeonhole due to its widespread musical styles, creating gloomy atmospheres with sharp growls and insane clear vocals.

After unveiling the massively intense first single "Ain’t Death Grand," followed by gloomy "Wolf Within," the gates of darkness are calling you to enter once more with the infernal third offering "Kyrie/Gloria." The track stomps towards heavy doom metal, conjuring a black mass with creeping darkness and desperate screams turning into harsh black metal parts, all topped by the outstanding guest appearance of Benighted frontman Julien Truchan. "Kyrie/Gloria" comes along with an atmospherically fitting music video shot within the impressive scenery of Arenfels Castle, Germany. Agathodaimon are ringing the bell for one last dance with the devil before "The Seven" is finally unleashed.

Agathodaimon on "Kyrie/Gloria":
"This is one of the most extreme songs on our album. Blast beats meet excessive Doom Metal riffs… We love the intense atmosphere evoked here – the song has an awesome groove, and we’re really looking forward to playing it live. Oh, and we highly suggest checking out the video clip we did for this one!" More...
