AXECUTER has recorded three songs that will soon be released on INFERNO Records as a limited cassette-single edition. Those three songs are strongly influenced by early VENOM, early ONSLAUGHT, and early CELTIC FROST according to the label.

The Boston Herald is reporting that System of a Down's Serj Tankian is currently composing the score for an upcoming production of "Prometheus Bound." An excerpt from the article follows.
Serj Tankian has spent the past decade rocking the world with his quirky, politically charged brand of prog-metal as frontman of System of a Down.
But in recent years, the Lebanon-born musician has branched out, writing poetry, recording solo albums, working on social justice issues and composing orchestral pieces.
His latest venture brought him to Cambridge, where he’s composed the score for American Repertory Theater’s interpretation of the ancient Greek tragedy “Prometheus Bound.”
“Politically, I’m getting off on this project because it works with everything I’ve worked with . . . the edginess and the themes of injustice and tyranny and civilization and torture,” Tankian said during a break from rehearsals last week at the Harvard University-based theater’s space on Church Street. The production, which starts a five-week run Friday at Oberon in Harvard Square, tells the story of Prometheus, the mythical figure punished by the gods for giving fire to humans. Tony- and Grammy-winning playwright Steven Sater (“Spring Awakening”) reworked the play, bringing in Tankian and turning it into a modern rock opera.
“I guess I felt around me such a feeling of power-lessness and voicelessness . . . and a growing sense of tyranny around the world,” Sater said. “And I thought about ‘Prometheus Bound.’ It’s perhaps the most searing indictment of tyranny ever written and it was written right at the birth of Western democracy.”

My Silent Wake has checked in with the following update about the band's live show lineup and announcement about writing new music:
"Hi to everyone! We have a couple of gigs coming up so far this year on the 23rd April in Nottingham and the 29th May in Weston-super-Mare. I will post details in the gig guide.
"Andi now has to spend a lot more time abroad with his new job, so playing in MSW is impossible for him right now. Steve is still very involved with his new job and Jasen decided to leave the band last year, but hopes to guest on future recordings. Lots of big changes in MSW right now, but we plan to continue as normally as we can. The live line-up will be Kate, me and Tank. We also hope to have Mike from The Drowning playing with us as much as possible. A friend of mine called Marc was to be filling in for Andi but unfortunately he found he did not have the time to commit to the band.
"New songs are being written by me and Kate and we hope to record some acoustic songs soon and a full album later in the year. A compilation of live and rare material is planned for release on Dark Meadow in the summer. Thanks for supporting us!"
Besides being black history month, February also happens to be black metal history month at Metalundergound, and we’ve already taken looks at bands like Emperor and Immortal. Each week with Unearthing the Metal Underground we look at several quality acts that haven’t managed to make it big yet. To get the month back to its originally intended purpose, we’ll know delve into a series of underground metal bands composed primarily or even entirely of black members.
Heavy metal, of any sub-genre or style, is a worldwide musical phenomenon that easily crosses racial and ethnic boundaries. While it would seem that many metal bands are composed entirely of lanky white dudes with long hair, that’s by no means the only type of group to be found among the metal hordes. Sepultura, Killswitch Engage, God Forbid, and Suffocation are some of the most well known acts to feature black musicians.
Rather than rehash bands you already know and love, instead we’ll unearth several acts that haven’t had a chance to be exposed to the wider metal world.
To start off our look at metal bands composed of black members, we’ll head over to Botswana, Africa to be pummeled to pieces by the death metal act Crackdust. Hailing from a country that hasn’t exactly made it on the musical radar yet, Crackdust still has a well developed and crushing sound that deserves a mosh pit full of metal heads. Details on the band can be found here, or you can check out the songs “Fate,” “Ruptured,” and “Deranged Psychopath” in the clips below.

Barren Earth is currently touring North America in support of the band's latest album "Curse of the Red River." The band has checked in from the tour with the following road report:
"We brought our own backdrop for this tour, but we’ve only used it once. This is because putting it up and taking it down in such difficult and tightly scheduled circumstances has proven to be too much of a hassle. In fact, no band on this tour has a backdrop, but ‘Ferum and ‘Troll use a certain type of screen onto which visual effects are projected. We and Rotten Sound also use this screen, by projecting our own respective logos onto it. It doesn’t look as good as the real thing, but it is better than nothing. The projector is quite easy to operate, but there has been the odd technical blip. For example, in Regina there might have been confusion as to who was performing, as Rotten Sound were blasting away against a Barren Earth-logo projected in the background…
"Snow seems to be ubiquitous on this tour. In Winnipeg the snowstorm was so heavy, that entering the bus, and leaving a few minutes later, the falling snow had already completely covered the footprints. It was in this snowstorm that we entered the Canada-US border. Whereas the previous border crossing had been an easy affair, this time there seemed to suspicion about our traveling party. We had to wait quite a bit at the border station, as the guards checked our bus inside and out. A prevalent fear in the group was obviously: will they find it? This was of course a reference to the vegetables and fruits in our fridge, as it is forbidden to carry such items across the border. Upon returning to the bus, it was apparent that they had checked the bus quite thoroughly. Bunks had been tampered with, personal possessions had been investigated. Yet mysteriously, the bananas and onions were intact in the fridge. Maybe they weren’t searching for fruit and vegetables after all…
"The following morning in Annandale, Minnesota, our bus driver took us to visit his home, where his wife had prepared a ‘Finnish breakfast’. A delicious breakfast of the highest quality was served for whoever happened to be awake at 11.00 a.m. Our hostess had baked a Finnish pancake according to a recipe off the internet. The pancake was Finnish enough, i.e. very good. We did not dare mention that although the pancake was quite close to Finnish in taste and texture, it is not a food to be served in the breakfast table, but more as a dessert. But so tasty and savoury was this pancake that one starts to think maybe it is time that the Finns too learned that the best way to start a day is in fact just that, a pancake. And bring out the maple syrup, too. More...

The Beginning Of Times was produced by the band; vocals were recorded under the guidance of Marco Hietala in his home studio in Kuopio. Like its predecessors, the album was mixed by Mikko Karmila.
