"We have definitely grown as people and musicians during the last year, and the album is a huge step up from our self-titled EP. So much more passion, aggression and emotion have been put into this record and it really shows. We are very proud of what we have created, and are reall

We, The Undersigned has checked in with a new blog detailing the band's recent tour dates. An excerpt from the road report follows:
"February 17th - Amigo's, Saskatoon SK: As we venture deeper into Canada's flattest terrains I find my eyes pained by the longest sunsets ever to be witnessed. I have yet to see the infamous Prairie Dogs but my gut tells me they're here... somewhere. The central regions of this country are not without their bleakness, visually and socially, but there are cool people in all walks of life and all regions of this messed up world. We found them in Kenora, Regina, and again tonight, in Saskatoon.
"We're playing what appears to be the coolest venue in the town, Amigos. In the daytime it's a gnarly mexican restaurant with delicious eats and various beers on tap and in the evening it's a great sounding rock n roll venue. Perfect. As usual with the western hospitality of this country, we were offered free meals and beverages. The vegetarian fajita and Grasshopper on tap has already made my night a success. The show begins with an awesome disappointment... More...

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week, D.J. Gilbert of Imbroglio tell of a horrific Halloween show experience last year, noting especially some characters in the crowd:
On October 31, 2010, we played in Huntington, West Virginia. It was during our most recent solo tour, entitled "Enjoy It While It's Dying Tour 2010". It was Halloween night and we were going to play this house show. On our way there our right passenger front wheel broke off 4 lugs and we were only riding on one for who knows how long. After pulling off the highway we find two drunken NASCAR fans to help us. They replace three of the broken ones because that is all the auto parts store had. After the NASCAR fans (C.W. & Eric) send us on our way with the spare, about 30 minutes down the road the spare tire blows. So we change the spare with the second one that we have. Once we pull up to the venue, our second spare deflates.
Now if the fun already hadn't begun... We set up and are getting ready to go on. There's a guy dressed up like Peter Pan, and there's a guy dressed up like John Wayne Gacy. They were the two that stuck out the most. They were completely intoxicated when we arrived. I feel bad not remembering their names but I am sure they didn't remember them either, due to their massive alcohol consumption.
As we start playing, "Peter Pan" is running around us acting like he is masturbating and doing weird voodoo-like dances. It was so obscure seeing a childhood fairytale icon be so exploited and adulterated during our set, along with the fact he said he was on peyote and a slew of other drugs later that night. Also, while playing our set, Devon is falling over constantly -- he's literally tumbling around like the town drunk. Apparently there was a big hole in the ground
because he couldn't keep his balance.
When we reach our last song, the cops show up and watch us while we are playing. While I am screaming/playing, I look over and see "Gacy" heckling the Cops and literally giving them the finger and screaming obscenities. It was priceless and so out of control. As soon as we stop, the cops ask me if he's a friend of ours and I say "no" for obvious reasons. After that "Gacy" tells the cops, "Fuck off. They are done, NOW GO DO YOUR JOBS!!!". I am sure he is going to be arrested but they just ignore him like he isn't even there.
Not only was Halloween a bizarre day in general (with the worst luck attached to it) but so were those two characters during our set.
Funny or crazy characters in the pit is a scenario many of us have experienced, with someone wearing a gorilla suit or the like becoming not an infrequent sighting at metal shows these days. Share your favorite or least favorite pit characters in the comments below.
Imbroglio's second album, "Sleep Deprivation" (reviewed here), came out on January 18th on The Path Less Traveled Records.
Be sure to check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.

Police.nsw.gov.au has issued a statement warning music fans attending the upcoming Soundwave festival that police will be actively searching for drug users and dealers. The press release can be read below.
Police will run a high-visibility operation at this weekend’s Soundwave Music Festival, targeting illegal and anti-social behaviour.
Operation Koolah will run at the festival, to be held at Olympic Park from 10am to 6pm on Sunday (27 February 2011). Police from the Drug Detection Dogs Unit, Mounted Police and the Licensing Unit will make up a large component of the police presence that will be targeting anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related offences.
The NSW Police event commander, Detective Superintendent Greg Rolph, said that the majority of party-goers have enjoyed themselves within the law in recent years. Despite this we still see a small number of revellers who insist on participating in illegal and anti-social behaviour.
“There will be drug detection dogs as well as a large number of overt and covert police resources aimed at catching those taking or dealing illegal drugs.
“Recreational drugs can be incredibly dangerous and anyone bringing them to the event can expect to be caught.nn“We have worked together with event organisers and other interest groups to ensure the best possible plans are in place to make the event as safe as possible – it is now up to the patrons to do their part,” Detective Superintendent Rolph said.
Bands scheduled to appear at the festival include Iron Maiden, Rob Zombie, Dimmu Borgir, All That Remains, and many more. Additional details on the festival can be found at this location.

"Recently Azarath underwent some personal changes - Necrosodom (guitar and vocals) replaced Bruno. Bass duties are now handled by P. Music was composed and arranged by Inferno and Bart, while Necrosodom wrote all the lyrics. 10 new devilish hymns were recorded for this album. The character and atmosphere of music was changed considerably. The music is dark, ominous and spatial – in many parts refers to Black Metal and classics of the genre. As the fog rolled in on the warm, balmy night in NOLA, so did the fans of Jucifer. Not just the average metalheads, but artists, punks, middle-aged/middle class men and women, and about anyone else you can think of. The infamous huge stack of old but very powerful amps, instruments, and all kinds of weird electronic devices filled the side wall of Siberia and rose to the ceiling. It was apparent that they would be performing on the floor lengthwise of the venue because their equipment was too much for the stage. More...

Requiem Aeternam has issued the following statement about the band's latest album "Destiny-Man," and the band coining the term "Philosophical Metal:"
"Requiem Aeternam are the creators of ‘Philosophical Metal’, genre which entails not only philosophical lyrics, but also music that gets intertwined with philosophical thinking.
Destiny-Man, third opus by Requiem Aeternam, has become the First Official Album of Philosophical Metal Music in the world...
"Requiem Aeternam have struggled to create a new style of music since their beginning in 1995, in which philosophy slowly started being an important matter to write both their music and lyrics. Their first record, Eternally Dying (1998), already shows clear philosophical tendencies, in particular through lyrics such as ‘Nature & Principle’, ’Lost in the Unknown’, and title song ’Eternally Dying’. However, this album cannot be cataloged as purely Philosophical since its music is mostly influenced by melodic black-death metal, and there is not a strong correlation between music and lyrics. Philosopher (2004), their second record, contains the first song of pure Philosophical Metal, ‘Logos’. In this song there is a notable relationship between lyrics (based on the Greek philosopher Heraclitus, ‘the obscure’) and music, style that they named at the time ‘Dialectical Metal’. Yet, Philosopher still has very important influences of death/black/thrash/doom and other already-existent forms of heavy metal music, even though all the lyrics of Philosopher are completely philosophical. It is Destiny-Man (2010), their third opus, which takes the podium in heavy metal history.
"Why ‘Destiny-Man’ is the First Official Album of Philosophical Metal, ever: Each song is inspired –not based– on classical composers, having chosen 10 different composers who are quite different (this is important given that these composers, even though they were not philosophers, were deep thinkers of music -which is one the characteristic of this new genre: to think deeply and sincerely the music as well as the lyrics). However, there is no direct influence of these masters of musical composition, or any existent metal band or any other band of any kind. Thus, every track is a micro-record in potency (there is almost no correlation between the songs, yet the final outcome is a unity), adding a total of 10 tracks, number that refers to Pythagoras, who probably was the first or one of the first men who wrote music in paper, giving to this art a transcendental character. Each song in particular has some numerical specifications: More...

The debut Finnr's Cane album "Wanderlust" is set to be re-released on April 11th, 2011 through Prophecy Productions. The label has now issued the following statement about signing Finnr's Cane:
"With their atmospherically gripping debut album 'Wanderlust,' the Canadian band Finnr's Cane have recently fascinated and enthused lovers of wintery soundscapes somewhere between mighty offshoots of traditionally grim Black Metal and sublime Post Rock. This unusual trio which replaces the bass guitar with a cello is going to take its unconventional musical jaunts supported by Prophecy Productions in the future, as the musicians have signed a contract on five albums.
"In their intuitive, epic tracks, the musicians of Finnr's Cane intertwine bitter-cold riffs with gorgeous melodies, Black Metal frenzy with ambient-like atmospheric rock, only following their infallible instinct for exciting soundscapes far from well-worn paths. All these features will be apparent in April, when a new edition of the rarely available "Wanderlust" with enhanced artwork will be released. After that, the band is going to concentrate on recording their second album. May the wild songs of Finnr's Cane invite all those who are adventuresome on an ecstatic trip through scenarios of snow and ice that are as impressive as they are deadly, a trip that you won't be forgetting soon!"

Karma to Burn has issued the following statement about entering the studio to record new material:
"In an unassuming neighborhood somewhere just outside of downtown LA an ominous rumble has begun. For the next 9 days that rumble is going to turn into one of the great rock albums of the 21st century… Karma To Burn are recording again.
"For the last 3 hours the cascading riffs of 48 have poured from a pair of the nicest speakers these ears ever set, well, ears upon. We’ve been listening to the same 5 minutes and 42 seconds of music the whole time and it’s never got tiresome… if anything it improves with every listen.
"I’m sure that’s at least something to do with the engineering. Lou seems to be some kind of button-pushing, nob-turning, slider-sliding genius. Everything sounds unbelievable.
"More likely though it’s the fact that like most every Karma To Burn tune you’ve heard before, there’s more riffs and great ideas in this one song that most bands will come up with in a career. Sure, admin is biased, but even so… anyone who ever slipped on a K2B record and tapped their foot is in for a treat."
Violator has posted a music video online for the song "Futurephobia," which is off the band's "Annihilation Process" EP. The video was directed by Brazilian producer Nicolas Gomes and can be viewed below.
