We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week, Devon Graves of Psychotic Waltz, The Shadow Theory, and Deadsoul Tribe tells a story of the most fearsome pit he's ever witnessed:
Since I personally do not relate to the moshing part of metal, here is the only story I can offer. It was somewhere around 1990. Slayer was performing at the massive Los Angeles Forum. Every seat in the house was sold out. The entire floor section which is the size of a basketball court was one huge mosh pit! I have friends who like to mosh, but seeing this sight, they were scared to death. This was a truly frightening sight to behold. In retrospect, I must say I long for the days that a metal band could sell out an entire sports arena. But the moshing is just too violent and negative for me and is something I can live without.
All I can say is: at least it was a Slayer pit. They are always insane, and that one sounds like it was epic.
The Shadow Theory just released their first studio album, "Behind the Black Veil," in North America this past January. The album tells a horror story of a man who wakes from one nightmare into another, until he can no longer tell where the dream ends and reality begins, or if he was ever dreaming at all. "The Sound of Flies" from the new album can be heard at the band's MySpace page.
Pyschotic Waltz will be embarking on the "Power of Metal" tour this month alongside Thaurorod, Symphony X, Nevermore, and Mercenary.
Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.

Trollfest recently inked a deal with NoiseArt Records and booking agency Rock the Nation. The band has today previewed the artwork and track listing for the forthcoming album, "En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral," which is due for release in April. The artwork can be viewed here.
Commenting on the concept of the album and the artwork, the band had this to say:
"Just like our second album 'Brakebein,' 'En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral' is also a concept album, which this time centres on the story of five Trolls who set out on a quest to find the Holy Grail that will reputedly deliver all the Trolls from a horrible famine. Exactly how it will do this is not by some heaven sent miracle, but by providing an endless food source in the shape of the hordes of Christians who will come searching for the Holy Grail themselves! As you can imagine, this rather 'unholy' quest is a somewhat beer-fuelled, blood-soaked adventure in typical Troll tradition! And if you want to know what happens next to the brave questers, there is an epilogue in the form of bonus track on the digi pack edition.
"When it came to actually illustrating the story of our five brave and adventurous Trolls for 'En Kvest For Den Hellige Gralm' there was only one choice we could possibly make, and that was Jonas Darnell. Ever since he created the evil Iron Duck for our 'Villanden' album, Jonas has been bringing the characters of the TrollfesT universe to life through his art. It then falls to Terje Johnsen to design and put together all of Jonas’ wonderful creations into a spectacular package. Terje has been part of the TrollfesT crew since Brakebein, and his work has earned him the honorary title of 'Andy WarTroll'."
The track listing is as follows:
1. Die Verdammte Hungersnot
3. Die Berüchtiges Bande
5. Der Sündenbock Gegalte
8. Jevnes med Jorden
9. En gammel Trollsti
10. Epilog (Bonus Track Digi Pack)
The track “Die Verdammte Hungersnot” from the new album can be heard on the band’s MySpace page at this location.

The band recently entered frontman Erik Rutan's own Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL to begin recording the new studio album. J.J. Hrubovcak has been added as the band's bassist.
Commented Rutan: "The band has been locked up in Mana Recording Studios doing pre-production for the past two months, finishing up songs that we have been writing over the last year in between tours and albums that I've produced, and we feel we have come up with one of Hate Eternal's heaviest, most twisted, evil, melodic, and insane albums yet.
"It was my goal to expand upon what the band has done in the past, and add new dynamics and twists to the traditional, dissonant Hate Eternal style, yet keep it in the same vein. It took the three of us really pushing ourselves, and digging deep into the essence of who we are as musicians and writers and players to create something very unique and special. We cannot wait for everyone to hear what we have in store."

Burial Vault has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's drummer:
"Dear friends, like most of you have noticed already, the band will leave Daniel in the near future. That his decision is anything but an easy one, everyone should be aware of who knows him. His work takes him, but so much in demand that could lead to longer term problems in settling his time with the band and his job. So he took his decision out of respect towards the band and we all have great respect for it.
"We would like to take this opportunity once again to thank Daniel for the great time. He is with us have gone through the recordings of three CDs, but most of all, we have a lot of brilliant performances played together and had an unforgettable time. Things like our concert series 'Addicted To Death,' would never have occurred without it rolling.
"He will be remembered as our friend definitely weighed and not disappear from our environment. Then we will be watching! Who wants to live to experience Daniel again in Action, which can make it next weekend in Hanover and Hamburg! We count on you!

A fourth song - 'Wicked Ways' - was finished and mastered in December and is included as a bonus track on the band's forthcoming vinyl release of World On Fire through Germany's Metalizer Records."
Amalgama has checked in with the following update about the band's fifth anniversary:
"A strange and exciting thing crept up on us this past January and quietly slipped by without much acknowledgment by everyone here in Amalgama: our 5 year anniversary. January 7th, 2006 was our very first appearance onstage as a band at the Hudson Duster, and it was an intimidating gig. After spending a week or so jamming on many of the songs that were eventually recorded for our first album When the Dust Settles we headed to Troy for our first show. The Duster's reputation was well documented as a hard-ass metal and hardcore club among Capital District metal fans so we felt a lot of pressure heading up the ladder to the stage area (an interesting set-up that we have yet to encounter again). So here we sit looking back 5 years, 2 EPs, 1 LP, 2 live releases and another LP and live EP in the works (read on for more about that). Thank you to all who has supported us over the years by buying our releases and coming to our shows.
"After a few months of back and forth correspondence with our friends at 91.5fm WRPI we have finally settled on a date for our next on-air live performance during their Wednesday Night Live program. Twice before we've had the privilege of being featured on the station (documented on our 2 live releases 'Live from WRPI' in 2007 and 'Heed the Horns: Still Alive from WRPI' in 2008) so making our return to the show is pretty damn exciting. If you'd like to tune in to the show on Wednesday night just spin your radio dial to 91.5fm (time TBA) OR if you're out of the immediate broadcast area you can hear the show online.
"In addition to our live broadcast on the 16th we will be headlining at Valentine's the following Saturday, February 19th. This is our first headlining hometown show in a while and it's at one of our favorite spots in the Capital District. Way back in 2006 Valentine's was the location of our second show EVER so it's a homecoming of sorts. Just a couple of young kids playing loud music at a club where we couldn't even drink because we weren't old enough yet. We've come a long way and we'll hope you come and share the experience with us; you can RSVP here."

Cradle of Filth vocalist Dani Filth has posted the following North American tour update online:
"Ahoy ye abhorrent landlubbers!
"Our royal Ship of Fools has once again crashed upon the welcome rocks of America, only to find it in the steely grip of one of the worst winters on record. Everywhere are freezing, once-scorching desert towns reduced to frozen tundras. Even the tumbleweed in the streets is rolling frozen, and everywhere there are queues and chaos.
"On our first day off Countess Alkaline (our new keyboardist/backing singer), somehow managed to get locked inside a Best Buy store when [the] power was suddenly cut off, and between Houston and Dallas the going on the interstate was so bad due to the ice and blizzard, that the traffic had to halt mid flow. In fact, the Dallas show was close to being cancelled due to attendance fears, indeed on arrival the whole road to the venue was frozen over with a glassy sheet of black ice.
"I had to use my luggage as a makeshift bobsleigh just to get to the door before it was salted! That said it did make for a surreal few days with both the Houston and Dallas shows being really intense affairs and the fans diehard. All the bands on this Creatures From The Black Abyss tour are awesome live too, Turisas, battle metal's most heathen, having played with us for a one off in Mexico City a few days before, airing material from their latest album' Daniel Lioneye make for an eclectic mix of black metal and hardcore with a manic spin (two members moonlighting from gothwampas H.I.M), whilst main supports Nachtmystium are hook laden and dirty and occult ridden thrash through and through.
"So imagine having to play after that lot! Still, the show has only just begun, so people are just beginning to acknowledge one another and teething troubles are still being plucked at. And 'the Crewdle' (our stalwart band of sea-hardened lackeys) are outdoing themselves with the handling of the stage show each and every night, building the laboratory that will feed the monsters. Indeed, the first day in Houston saw the band muck in with some scenery painting, I myself managed to pebble-dash someone's Mustang tailgate, as the wind was pretty erratic and I was out spraying Geoff and Jane our touring skeletons.
"Unfortunately, both some of the Crew(dle) and the band have contracted some sort of stomach virus in Mexico (myself included), rendering the topic of conversation these past few days to who has cramps and who doesn't, who has poo-ed the most times and with which consistency and people fart-testing their deepest fear- that of shitting oneself on stage or in bed. Fortunately myself I have since been three days solid."
Canadian hardcore punk act Comeback Kid has posted a new live music video online. The video was shot for the track "G.M. Vincent & I" which appears on the band's latest album "SYMPTOMS + CURES." "SYMPTOMS + CURES" is available through Victory Records. You can view the live music video below:

Hertfordshire, U.K. melodic hardcore act Lower Than Atlantis has announced its signing with Sumerian Records. The signing comes in time for the band to release its new full length album "World Record" on April 19th, 2011. Lower Than Atlantis vocalist Mike Duce commented on the singing by saying:
"We’re extremely excited to be working with Sumerian Records. We met the team briefly at some rubbish club we were playing in London and we all seem to be on the same page. It's every bands dream to have an album released (and to tour) in America and for this band, the dream’s come true twice because both our album’s are hitting U.S. shores at once.
"We can't wait to show some American’s what this band’s all about and to just have a good time fucking around, meeting new people and getting pissed out of our heads on Budweiser! We also have the Sumerian guys to thank for making it possible for us broke fuckers to tour the states and even luckier for our first tour being the ‘Reckless And Relentless‘ tour. We’re kind of the odd band out on the bill being a more punky/rock British band as opposed to our heavier U.S. touring buds, but I guess this is just a chance for us to win over some new fans.
"We've done it before, and we'll do it again. Lock up your daughters, wives, sisters, aunts, etc. See you all soon."
Les Claypool, bassist of progressive rock act Primus, has issued the following update on the band's 2011 plans:
"Hello there folks. First off I just want to say how fantastic it is seeing the support that has been put forth for my brother and his family. Little Matthew is plugging away and though he has got a long way to go, it appears he is a tough little fellow with a lot of heart. Keep your eyes peeled for a special show in his honor and for his benefit in the Santa Cruz area in the near future.
"Since the New Year’s Shows there has been a lot of speculation about my new four string bass that I was sporting. What I played at those shows was a semi-finished prototype bass that I designed and had built by my old pal Dan Maloney. I've known Dan since high school and in fact it was he that drove all of us to my first concert: Rush, Hemispheres Tour, Cow Palace. I slammed three beers and threw up in the parking lot. Those were the days. Dan is also known in our camp as the guy that built my banjo bass or “"he Banji." More...
Mick Box, guitarist for British hard rock veterans Uriah Heep, has posted the following statement online regarding he passing of guitar legend Gary Moore:

Irish hard rock act Therapy? has posted the following statement online in response to the passing of Gary Moore:
"Just heard the very sad news that Gary Moore has passed away. The Belfast-born guitar legend was a big inspiration for myself growing up in Northern Ireland, both for his work with Thin Lizzy and his very successful solo career.
"We had the pleasure of meeting Gary and his band last summer at the Pinkpop Classic festival in Holland. After watching their (killer) show, we were introduced and Gary came over to our dressing room and chatted away to us. He was everything you'd want a hero to be… laid back, modest and very genuine, with a cool sense of humour.
"Our condolences go out to his family, friends and bandmates."
