Baltimore, MD based metal band Rest Among Ruins has replaced bassist Nathan Heavel and are currently auditioning guitarists to replace Henry Kaldre. The band has issued the following update regarding the situation:
"We've been under the radar for some time now so I figured I'd post an update on the happenings in RAR camp. A LOT has happened since we last checked in so I'll try my best to fit it all in here. In October, Nate decided to part ways with RAR due to time commitments in other areas of his life including work, his other music project with me (Vestascension), and his regular body building competitions. This was a definite speed bump for us as we all loved working with Nate (whilst admiring his stunningly chiseled features and curiously hairless arms). But we decided that this should not and would not slow us down! So we did some auditioning and found ourselves a new bass player, whom we will announce soon ;) Moving on. In November, we finished writing the album AND finished tracking pre-production. So in December, we kicked into high gear and began tracking drums for the album and then guitars and bass in January. Everything was going great! Then about two weeks ago we got hit with a MAJOR curve ball when Henry decided to quit the band midway through tracking guitars. Yeah, baffling, we know. In fact, there are still little 'WTF!?' thought-bubbles following us around everywhere. Very inconvenient in rooms with low ceilings. But regardless of our new cloudy appendages, we've decided that this WILL NOT slow us down." More...

British traditional metallers Neuronspoiler, have released a video for "Words, Words, Words," a track off their 2010 E.P. "No One's Safe." The video features live footage recorded at The Purple Turtle in Camden mixed with material from the controversial 2009 movie, "The Yes Men Fix the World." "No One's Safe" was recorded at London's Monster Trax studios and produced by Misha Nikolic (Mike Terrana, John West).
Speaking about the collaboration with The Yes Men, guitarist David Del Cid said, "We might do a different kind of art from what [The Yes Men] do but we share the same ideals of rebellion against these power-hungry, hypocrite institutions that want to take everything from us, we just express it in a different way with music." Neuronspoiler's drummer, Tim Barclay said, "This track ["Words, Words, Words"] is all about people talking on and on without it really meaning anything, so when David showed the rest of us this film he'd seen which was all about cutting through the vacuous rubbish of all these big business spokesmen, it just seemed such a perfect fit. We're so excited that they were happy for us to use the footage."

As many people are aware, February is Black History Month in the United States of America. Always one to respect cultures and take part in something, we here at MetalUnderground.com are dedicating this month to the history of Black Metal. We will be looking at some of the biggest names in the genre, those who helped to shape it, and some of the promising younger black metal bands in the underground.
The Emperor is dead, long live the Emperor! Or at least that’s how the rallying cry goes these days, and with good reason. Bands like Immortal and Marduk may still be churning out albums in our current decade, but if there is one name synonymous with black metal, it is Emperor. In honor of black metal history month, we previously looked at two bands that influenced early black metal (Sodom and King Diamond), and now we’ll delve into the heart of the subject with a band that represents the core ideals and sounds of the genre.
Despite having only recorded four main studio albums, the last of which came out a full decade ago, Emperor is still one of the most widely known, widely respected, and widely requested black metal bands in existence. The group of kids from Norway who became Emperor probably had no idea what they were going to eventually birth when they started putting together rasping screams and freezing cold atmosphere. Emperor has left a lasting mark on the world of extreme metal, and not just for fans of Norwegian black metal. More...
