Detroit technical death metal group As They Sleep has launched its debut music video from the recently released full-length, "Dynasty," for the track, “Oracle of the Dead." The video, hosted by Noisecreep.com, can be viewed below.
The “Oracle of the Dead” music video was filmed at Northend Studios in Detroit with director, Drew Russ (A Day To Remember, Impending Doom, War of Ages). The ringside concept for the video was a collaborative effort between the band and director, though As They Sleep vocalist, Aaron Bridgewater, admits that the video was more about having fun, rather than exploring the concept behind Dynasty’s focus on the rise and fall of empires throughout history. “It in no way, shape, or form has anything to do with the song itself or the record. It's just all of us being idiots, really. ’Oracle of the Dead’ is just stupidly unrelenting, and we figured why not come out swinging?”
You can also check out behind the scenes footage from the video shoot at this location.

April 18th will see the release of Arkan's sophomore album "Salam." This new oriental metal album will feature the vocal contribution of Orphand Land's mainman Kobi Farhi. Season of Mist has now posted an interview with the Israeli musician about appearing on the album, which can be read below.
SoM: How did you discover ARKAN?
Kobi: I heard about them from our fan club manager, Nathalie Van Aalst.
SoM: How did the 2010 "Tour Against Racism" came to life?
Kobi: Nathalie told me they would fit perfectly on a bill with us, so I had a listen and immediately noticed we are from the same musical tree. Arkan were great on the tour and I think they gained many new fans, including me and my band mates.
SoM: How did you end up participating to the "Salam" album and how do you feel about it?
Kobi: [ARKAN drummer] Foued Moukid contacted me and suggested the idea. I was immediately happy about it so he sent me a detailed letter with the songs and references, and we took it from there. It felt just great and I am honoured. Furthermore I truly loved the lyrics, as it speaks about the Holy Land, the one we like to describe as "Orphaned Land". I am attached to the lyrics in all languages and especially to the highest form of language ever invented - MUSIC. As an artist, I know that ARKAN's album is their child, and I know it meant a lot to them to let me be a part of it. We share the same feelings.More...

The band is currently fleshing out details for Summer/Fall touring, and are recording their follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut Hour of the Wolf. The ideal candidates have pro-level chops, live and studio experience and the flexibility to tour when the opportunities present themselves. If this seems like a gig you're well-suited for, please contact us. If you could send us an MP3 of something you've played on, that would be a huge plus. Dark, vibed-out, powerful and HEAVY is the theme!"

Ali Dean, former bassist for U.K. metalcore act Architects, has posted the following statement online explaining his reasons for leaving the group:
"I just wanted to say a few things to make sure my reasons for parting ways with Architects are clear. I'm not going to go into any great detail, as I'm sure you'll all understand that my reasons for leaving are of a personal nature.
"My family suffered a pretty huge loss recently and as a result, I can no longer commit myself to this band to the extent necessary.
"Playing in this band and spending the past five years of my life with these four guys has been extraordinary. I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to be in a band and travel with these guys, and to see and do all the things that we've done together. I wouldn't change a thing about the experience. I would love nothing more than to carry on, but I've now got other priorities and commitments which would not be right for me to ignore.
"Keep supporting these guys, because they're an amazing group of musicians and more importantly they're incredible people."
The band's statement on Ali's departure can also be read here.
Former Pyramaze guitarist Michael Kammeyer has posted the following statement online, announcing his departure from the band:
"I have for a long time now struggled to find the mental surplus as well as the sheer time to put into the large endeavor that Pyramaze has become.
"Back when I created the band in 2002, my private and professional life looked a lot different than it does today, and it has become increasingly taxing on me to find the energy that is needed to do all the stuff that I have to do. In fact, it has become difficult to the point where it's not justifiable anymore.
"I have had to take a long hard look at what I must do, to avoid a mental meltdown, and, unfortunately, I have had to make a hard decision — in fact, probably the hardest decision I've ever had to make. I feel the time has come to stop my journey with Pyramaze.
"The band has been a very important part of my life for the last 8-9 years. I've built it from scratch, and I've been working my ass off to get Pyramaze to where it is now. So it is truly with a heavy heart that I now close this chapter. More...
John Cronise, guitarist and vocalist for Austin, Texas metal act The Sword, recently spoke with the Dallas Observer newspaper and offered the following comments on the band's drummer situation:
"The transition has gone really well, but it was interesting because we had so many professional drummers with their own web sites — that we hadn't ever known — contacting us, asking to be in the band. That was really new for us. Luckily, we found a guy here in town that has played in other bands and was a friend of a friend, and it was just a normal situation, like when any of the other bands I've been in would find a new member. It's worked out awesome for us, so far."
You can also check out video footage of the band performing with new drummer Kevin Fender here.

"Night of the Prog" 2011 is set to take place on July 8-9, 2011 in Loreley, Germany. Other acts that have been announced include Riverside, Anathema, Eloy and IQ. A festival press release states:
"It took this festival only a few editions to raise to one of the leading progressive rock festivals in Europe - or probably even the world.
"Next to the music and bands that have taken part at the festival editions, the main reason for the success is simply the location! The UNESCO world heritage Loreley is one of the most outstanding open air amphitheaters in Europe. High above the river Rhine, the visitors are overwhelmed by the beautiful surrounding area.
"By this outstanding [ambient] we continue to establish the festival as the "[Mecca] of Progressive Rock.' The hightlights of the past 3 years have been for sure the appearances of Fish, ASIA, Jethro Tull, Roger Hodgson, Steve Hackett, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Marillion - to name a few.
"The tradition to supply a stage for young and emerging artists is one of our major tasks. To give them the chance to play in front of thousands of people will definitely help to create a career."

Unfortunately, these commitments are going to extend indefinitely and as a result he simply cannot commit the time required to continue playing with us.
"No one will miss him more than the 4 of us. He’s been a huge part of our lives and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer guy to be a part of this band, so we’d like to say a huge thank you to Ali for committing the last 5 years of his life to Architects. At this point we are uncertain who will be filling the role, but we do know we will be playing on all our upcoming tours and we have no intention of slowing down whatsoever. 3 front man Joey Eppard has posted the following recording update online:
"Good news! Four songs are officially mixed for the new '3' record. Everything sounds great and its a pleasure to reunite with Mike Birnbaum and Chris Bittner of Applehead Studios. This is the team that recorded and produced our first record 'Paint By Number' back in 1998 and also produced and recorded Coheed & Cambria‘s first three albums. We’ll be back at it next week to hopefully knock out a couple more mixes. Then its time to finish up the remaining tunes and mix them in march. Good things do take time, and we believe this record will be more than worth the wait.
"Meanwhile we’ll be making our return to the Bearsville Theater on February 25th. Expect some more sneak peeks at whats to come from the new album… Spread the word!"
