We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Tony Wolfe, guitarist of Owen Hart, shares a story about a show in Texas where things just didn't go quite as planned:
Being a band for 6 some years in the DIY house tour circuit produces a lot of fucking nutty show shit, such as people trying to pass you a crack pipe while you're playing, a high-as-fuck girl cutting her face with a knife, our friends in Elitist flooding everything by breaking the main water pipe in a basement (the show must go on), etc.
But by far the craziest shit happened to us in Texas in 2008. The following events happened all at one show. Our singer got slapped by someone's mom after the set because she didn't like the speech he'd given about evolution before one of our songs. While this was happening, someone was throwing up all over our merch table. Earlier, our drummer Brian had somehow managed to eat well over the recommended weed brownie dosage for playing grind drums and played everything at about 1/3 speed... He literally fell asleep on his snare during the evolution speech. Then we come to find out our van got broken into during the show by skinheads and, out of all our ipods, money box, and spare gear, the only thing they stole were our roadie's fanny pack and my jean jacket. Fuck Texas. RIP Dimebag."
Owen Hart's debut full-length, "Earth Control," is out January 18 on Vitriol Records. In the meantime, you can check out some of their music on the band's MySpace page.

"I wanted to steer a bit away from the obvious sounds that this day and age is craving for (in certain circles) and go for something a bit more vintage, something with a bit more '80s bite.' I mentioned Fields of the Nephilim ('Elyzium'), Black Sabbath ('Born Again') and early Dio as reasonable reference points. That was basically it. And we wanted it huge! No need to say these keywords were more than enough to trigger Mr. Swanö, as even the first test samples I received bore witness of something out of the ordinary. Sails set for Dominion! More...

Multinational melodic metal band Eden's Curse has paid tribute to the memory of vocal legend Ronnie James Dio by recording a rendition of the Dio track "Rock ‘N’ Roll Children." The song is set to be included on all territorial releases of the band's third studio album “Trinity," due out in mid March.
Also, as previously hinted by the band last year, they would also be recording a cover version from one of the groups “biggest influences," which has also now been identified as the Dokken song "Unchain The Night," which is set to be included on the Japanese release of “Trinity” due out March 15th on Spiritual Beast.
Bassist and chief song smith Paul Logue explained "Unashamedly Dokken, along with Queensryche and Pink Cream 69 have been the three bands whom we built the basis of the Eden’s Curse sound around. We missed bands that created that kind of music, and we tried to get as close to that sound and vibe as possible."
When it came to providing a bonus track for the Japan release, Logue explained there was one unanimous choice. "Absolutely! It’s a song we jammed at rehearsals or sound checks and we always said 'we should record this' – I’m so glad we eventually did!"
One minute samples of both the Dio and Dokken renditions are now streaming at the band's Official MySpace."

Texas modern metal/hard rock act Drowning Pool has posted the following statement online in response to the recent Arizona shooting tragedy:
"We were devastated this weekend to learn of the tragic events that occurred in Arizona and that our music has been misinterpreted, again.
"'Bodies' was written about the brotherhood of the mosh pit and the respect people have for each other in the pit. If you push others down, you have to pick them back up. It was never about violence. It's about a certain amount of respect and a code.
"We've performed for the troops overseas several times in places like Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. Through our song 'Soldiers', we were able to create a petition that helped pass the Lane Evans Mental Health Care Reform Bill, which we presented to then-Senator Barack Obama.
"We've been lucky enough to have some of the biggest success of our career with our new album and we want to continue to spread positivity for the future, not dwell on negativity. For someone to put out a video misinterpreting a song about a mosh pit as fuel for a violent act shows just how sick they really are. We support those who do what they can to keep America safe.
"Our hearts go out to the victims and their families of this terrible tragedy."
American hardcore act Before There Was Rosalyn has posted the following update online:
"As a band, I don’t think we have ever been as excited as we are about the new music we are writing. Having the new faces (though old friends) become a part of the Rosalyn family has seen the band transform into a more unified and efficient incarnation. In short, we have never seen more eye to eye on what we want to accomplish and the kind of band we want to be. We are very excited to get back out on the road and introduce the new members, as well as the new musical direction of the band."

Veteran Seattle hardcore act The Accused has posted the following update online, announcing the addition of drummer Warren A. Pease to the band's line-up:
"[Warren's] a relatively young chap at the tender age of 25. Then again, with The Accused founding guitarist, Tommy Niemeyer, rounding the corner heading into half-century territory, who isn't young to that old fucker?
"Warren, or 'Andy' as he's affectionately referred to most noticeably at first brings his youthful enthusiasm and perpetual grin to The Accused. But don't let the friendly face fool you into thinking this is some run-of-the-mill, trigger-tapping tom-tom-tickler. No! The young Mr. Pease possesses an absolutely mind-boggling, pile-driving, double-kick drumming style that will make you wonder if he's got extra appendages hidden away back there somewhere.
"Having the freshly-plucked Warren A. Pease now on drums will up the ante for all who are dealt-in when The Accused bring their horror-filled freak show to the stage sometime early 2011. The Kings of Splatter Rock are back with a vicious and brutal hardcore attack."
