Judgement Day is current in the studio recording their new, acoustic album, which follows up their latest release, "Peacocks/Pink Monsters." Here's an update from the band:
"Greetings from Sea Ranch,
DAY ONE of work on our new acoustic record went excitingly well. We got the studio all set up and running at The Barn and had some epic fireside jams on some of the new material as well as some oldtime blues standards. Jon has been experimenting with deadening his regular drum kit as well as playing buckets and other pieces of percussion. He seems to be really inspired. We all are!
"We’re super lucky to have Riki Feldmann with us. Not only did he fix the house electrical power and assemble the entire studio, he has also been shooting a ton of photos and videos which, like all of his work, look incredible. This week will be well-documented for sure.
"If you’re interested in following the recording process, you can do so on Twitter at http://twitter.com/stringmetal. We’ll be posting stuff there all week in addition to our daily Facebook posts."
Dan Mitchell of one-man metal band Autumns Eyes has issued the following update following having surgery on his hand:
"Many of you had some questions about a surgery I was supposed to have. Well Im happy to report I finally got it done today. It was a fairly complex procedure where they knocked me out to remove a growth that was buried deep and attached to nerves in my right hand. They put my arm inside a giant block that looks like swiss cheese to prevent movement and keep it elevated. 4-6 weeks of recovery and hopefully I’ll be back to normal! Once Im healed up I can go back to finishing all the new material for Autumns Eyes, which Im extremely anxious to get started on. The only downside right now is having to use my left hand for EVERYthing…so now let the perverted jokes begin…"
New Wave Of British Heavy Metal veterans Tokyo Blade have announced that they will be releasing their new studio album, "Thousand Men Strong," on March 18th through Fastball Music. With ladies like Angela Gossow and Vibeke Stene fronting bands with primarily male members, the heavy metal scene has shown that women can just be as bad ass as men. While the female fronted band has gone from curiosity to accepted member of the metal kingdom, heavier acts still tend toward having mostly men among their ranks. Breaking that trend are a few groups that buck the established norm and bust out the girl power. With this week’s edition of the Unearthing the Metal Underground column we’ll take a look at three bands that rock out 100% wang free.
Kittie is probably the most well known group to feature only women handling the instruments and vocals, but there are plenty of all-girl bands that show up the kittens in terms of brutality. There’s no purr and all claws to be found in Greece’s Astarte, which leans heavily towards the black metal side of the spectrum.
Currently signed to Avantgare Records, Astarte has released five full-length albums so far, and even managed to catch Dimmu Borgir’s attention. Symphonic black metal icon Shagrath appeared in a guest spot on the “Ring of Sorrow” song off the band’s “Sirens” album. To get started with this all-girl act you can check out the video for the “Mutter Astarte” track, the collaboration with Shagrath, and the song “Black Mighty Gods” in the clips below.

David Ellefson recently answered a series of interview questions for Rocketqueen-susi.de about re-joining Megadeth and the band taking part in the "Big 4" show in Bulgaria. Excerpts from the interview can be found below.
Rocket Queen: In September 2009 the new Megadeth Album "Endgame" was released and you re-joined Megadeth back in february 2010. Did it take a long time for you to say yes I will rejoin the band... Have you had sleepless nights because of that? I am sure that you and David resolved your former disputes amicably back then. Or was it hard to get back to the old days in lets say some days/weeks?
David: Dave and I had been talking for several years and that helped us form a friendship we never really had before, mostly because we weren’t in a band together during that time and distracted by the business of running a band. I guess that just took what it took for it to transform and happen.
Rocket Queen: Lots of things are going on with Megadeth at the moment. So lets start with your thoughts on the latest album "Endgame?" What are your identations on this album? And which song do you like most on this album and why?
David: It has some really good material on it and it is produced and played really well. It has a modern edge which is a good progression for the band’s sound. I’m looking forward to recording the next disc this year and seeing how that modern sound evolves with the vintage aspect the fans have come to know of how Dave and I play together, too. I think it will capture a classic sound and create yet another new chapter for the band moving forward now.More...
