Russia's Welicoruss has checked in with the following update about recording new material and working on a music video:
"In spring 2011 the band is going to make the video-clip for their new single (which is kept a secret for now). The subject for the clip is northern tradition, Skandinavic/Russian theme. The group searches for picturesque, charismatic soldiers in regimentals having corresponding abilities, and also beautiful ladies for the filming.
"Let's remind, that WelicoRuss shortly are going to lock themselves up at Neverside studio for record and then at TonHummer Studio for the further arrangement and mastering under responsive guidance of Ilya Chursin, who already has acted as a sound control supervisor and sound producer for the first two albums.
"We liked Ilya’s approach greatly; his artistic flair and intuition about what every song need to be. I suppose this time we will make absolutely new sound that will be surprising for everybody!"
The Telegraph reports that "tourism chiefs who carried out an internet poll to find Suffolk's most iconic image were embarrassed to find that most votes were cast for the lead singer of black metal band Cradle of Filth."
"The organisation Choose Suffolk asked people to submit their favourite photographs of landscapes, people, or products for the Suffolk Icons contest which was designed to promote the county as an attractive place to visit.
"Records show that Dani Filth, 37, recorded 13,025 votes by having his image clicked on the Suffolk Icons website - more than six times the votes recorded for the next most popular icon."

Nachtmystium has announced plans to release a new live album recorded during the band's 2010 performance at Tilburg, Netherlands "Roadburn Festival." The band commented by saying:
"Our experience at Roadburn was truly one of a kind. Never have we been treated so well by organizers of any festival or tour we have been a part of, and it was truly a blessing to work with the kind folks behind this amazing festival. I’d also like to thank Ron van Herpen from Astrosoniq / The Devils Blood and Teun van der Velden from Astrosoniq for stepping in on very last minute notice to help us out with the lead guitar and synthesizer duties for this performance. Without these two gentlemen, our show would not have been what it was.
"For your information, these two guys had THREE HOURS of practice with us EVER, on the day of the show none the less. We had not met them in person previous to the day of the show. They’d been asked to help us out (due to some unfortunate circumstances with a member of Nachtmystium having to leave for home mid-tour) about nine days before our performance at Roadburn. Both of them learned the entire set from the album recordings of the songs we played in these nine days, and then had a three hour window in the afternoon on show-day to rehearse with us as a full band.
"I was (and still am every time I listen to this recording) completely blown away by how well both of these guys played. Their attention to detail was incredible, and we the band are eternally grateful for their services for this performance. So, we hope anyone listening to this recording enjoys it as much as we enjoyed performing it!"
The live album will contain the following track listing:
1. Away From The Light
2. Your True Enemy

4. Life Of Fire

LED ZEPPELIN 2, the cover band featuring bassist Chris Klein, drummer Ian Lee, guitarist Paul Kamp and vocalist Bruce Lamont, will ring in the new year with a North American tour set to kick off this Friday. The flashbacks will commence in Chicago with two dates at the House Of Blues on January 7 and 8. The band will then wind through nearly a month's worth of dates before drawing to a close on February 12 in Denver at The Gothic Theatre.
LED ZEPPELIN 2 brings you the excitement of Led Zeppelin "In Concert" by re-enacting the live improvisation and onstage interaction that earned Led Zeppelin their legendary status for performing. Rather than a "greatest hits" show, you get to experience Zeppelin as Zeppelin would have played live in front of an audience. LZ2 sold out venues across the U.S. in 2010 and have drawn rave reviews for a "spot-on" Zeppelin show, playing deep cuts and classic tracks from the entire catalog, and occasionally entire Led Zeppelin performances from specific dates.
Most widely recognized for his saxophone and vocal work fronting Chicago's Yakuza, Bruce Lamont has contributed to a plethora of other projects including Bloodiest (featuring members of 90 Day Men, Sterling), Circle of Animals (with Sanford Parker, Minsk/The High Confessions) and Sick Gazelle (with Eric Block and Sanford Parker). He's also recorded with Sigh, East West Blast Test, Minsk, Nachtmystium, Rabid Rabbit, Brutal Truth, Cephalic Carnage, Sweet Cobra, Locrian, Hex Machine and more.
Commented Lamont of the upcoming LED ZEPPELIN 2 dates: "I never thought back when we started LED ZEPPELIN 2, for fun mind you, that we would ever embark on a full U.S. tour. I am really excited to do it. It's an honor and a pleasure to sing and perform some of the greatest music ever made."

It'll be our first outing in 2011 promoting our new album, so we're looking forward to be playing more new stuff! Nightwish bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala has posted the following recording update online:
"At the moment I have most of the bass tracks for the new album recorded. I started already a few weeks back, but I've been taking my time with the recordings. It's the luxury of having your own equipment and a former job as studio engineer. For now I've been taking it pretty easy for the last two weeks. The holiday season and all that goes with it, you know...
"Right now I'm collecting my inner plutonium for the critical mass again. I always do that before recording something. After all, we're not a pop band, and these songs need some really serious explosives. Too bad you can't hear them yet...
"I just had to twist the knife here. I'm a sadist also.
"The songs are really good, by the way...
"Of course we all would like to see this project finished, released and out for all the world to hear.
"The success we've been blessed or cursed with is demanding in its own ways. Everything has to be planned in long term. All the parts of releasing albums, videos and tours have to match carefully when you get to this stage of things. And so we all get fed up with the waiting.
"Try to be patient and we'll do our best to reward you later on."

Swedish extreme metal act Vomitory has posted the following recoding update online:
"On Sunday, December 19th, we completed the work on the eighth Vomitory album that we have entitled 'Opus Mortis VIII'! It's our eighth musical work of death, so we think it's a very fitting title and we have some nice things going on artwork-wise for this one.
"Producer and studio owner Rikard Löfgren has done a tremendous job to get the best sounding Vomitory album to date — no competition! We are so fucking happy with the result. The production is absolutely top-notch and the material offers diversity and dynamics that you haven't quite heard from Vomitory before. You will get 14 songs altogether and roughly 54 minutes playing time."
Massacre Records has issued the following announcement about German act Macbeth parting ways with its vocalist:
"Well, not a good way to end the year 2010, but on New Year's Eve Macbeth announced that they are parting ways with their vocalist Olli. The band stated that it was difficult within the last two years to work together and that it was even not possible in the end.
"Since this had negative effects on them working on the new album, they decided to part ways. Don't be afraid the decision won't change the music and style of Macbeth, because Olli didn't compose or wrote the songs, according to the band. The band is now searching for a new vocalist. If you think you are able to fit in the band, feel free to contact the guys at post(at)macbeth-music(dot)de?."

Unearth has begun tracking the new album at Zing Studios in Westfield, MA. The band is currently tracking drums with sit in drummer for the album, Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed. "Foley was an obvious choice for this album for many reasons, but mainly because of his abilities and knowledge of heavy music as well as his long time friendship with the band," comments Trevor Phipps. "A decade plus of friendship has made this an easy transition for the band, Foley and our producer/engineer Adam D."
In other news, the band has decided to change the mixing engineer for the album to Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, White Chapel, Devil Driver, Trivium, etc...) from Audiohammer Studios.
Guitarist Buz McGrath added this irrelevant comment about working with Mark, "Mark Lewis mixed me a drink once and i woke up in a swamp covered in anti freeze."

"Hey Thrashers! Hope you have had some sweet and relaxing holidays…we surely did! Our last show for 2010 at Leer’s Winter Metal Meeting some days ago went down smoothly, so thanks to everyone who came out to see us on that incredibly cold evening! Sadly, that show also marked the last gig for our rhythm guitarist Martin Walczak with Dew-Scented.
"Some while ago, Martin decided to leave the band due to changes in his personal life and lack of availability to move forwards with music at this stage. It’s a shame to see him go but we certainly wish Martin all the very best with his next goals and tasks in life! Thanks for the good times, Mattin!
"We already have a friend of the band lined up as session guitarist for the European tour with Nile starting out late January, so no reason to be worried at all…and we will give you more details about this in the coming days! But speaking of the next tour, here are again all the dates for you to pin them down on your calendars." More...

"The end of the week begins our adventure trip to distant Africa. On 9 January we will fly to Namibia and go there for four weeks, a wild and desert tour through Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Face to face with hungry crocodiles and cuddly elephants we will drive our SUVs, of course, always the roughest and most dangerous routes and are looking forward to any challenge.
"To sweeten the waiting time a bit, we already have most of the summer dates online - which are of course in the next few weeks to get some more dates. All signs point to storm - we look forward to another year with you and hope to many great concerts with you!"

Bloodiest commented on recording the new full-length and partnership with Relapse:
"We recorded with Sanford Parker @ Electrical audio in Chicago (Steve Albini's studio) where most of the basic tracks were cut live (IE drums, bass, 3 guitars) showcasing the energy and spontaneity of these songs. We then overdubbed at Semaphore Studios (also in Chicago) adding layers and textures to enhance the dynamics for what the band is known for (IE effected vocals, figure picked acoustic guitar, piano, etc.) Bloodiest is pleased to be working with Relapse and glad they got to capture our debut release Descent."
Ireland's Mourning Beloveth has issued the following update about writing new material and taking a break from live shows:
"And once again, we succeed where another year has failed. We’re still here… 2010 has once again proved to be a busy and successful year for MB. Although some of you may have been waiting for news of our next studio album, this year we concentrated on introducing Pauric to the madness of MB on the road and in the beer tent.
"A full and varied diary of gigs started for us at the Siege of Limerick in April, and Pauric’s first appearance with us. Along the way we managed to blaze a trail through Doom Shall Rise VII (Germany), SWR XIII (Portugal), a special one off gig in London (UK), Hells Pleasure (Germany), headlining the amazing success that was Dublin Doom Day II on home soil, Madrid is the Dark II (Spain), an eleventh hour helping hand to our friends at Dutch Doom Days IX (Holland), before bidding 2010 a resounding 'Fuck Off' in Cork in December. We even managed to drag some forgotten gems from our past albums back into our live set, some never before played live and some never to be played again.
"Sentinel Records also saw fit to unleash upon the world our split 10” with Wreck of the Hesperus. 'The Weeping Song' 10” was our only release of 2010, and anyone that knows us or spoke to us know how proud we are of it. Sentinel still has some copies available, so if you missed it now is your chance.
"So, gazing into our crystal ball, what does 2011 hold for MB? Writing. And more writing. Its been three long years since we recorded 'Disease,' and right now all our collective waking moments are concerned with writing and recording the next, as yet untitled, full length. We have upwards of forty hours of riffs collected, and the slow, frustrating and often violent process of turning these into actual songs now lies ahead. It will be finished, just as all the previous albums, when we are happy with it, and not before. There is no scheduled studio date, no vague promises or time line. More...

"A LOT happened in 2010 and it’s been a great year for us. So here is an update of where we are at, and where we are headed in 2011. First, I’d like to thank all of the crazy fans in Europe for supporting our first European tour. We had a blast playing for you in November/December and we hope to cross the pond again real soon to shred some faces!
"Second, I’d like to announce two new members of the Threat Signal camp. We destroyed Europe with these guys, and we couldn’t be more excited with the sound of the band right now and what the future holds together. Replacing Norm Killeen on drums is Alex Rudinger from Frederick MD, USA. I caught wind of Alex’s drumming through Youtube. He has a large number of drumming videos including covers, and originals. My jaw dropped when I first saw this kid play! Check it out at at this location. More...
