Orlando metal band I Will Break Thee is slated to release their as yet untitled E.P. this summer with Andols Herrick behind the drum kit. I Will Break Thee has been hard at work over the winter, putting together the 6 song E.P. Drum tracking began at Suede Shoes Studios in Longwood Florida, in early January.
“It’s been an amazing experience having Andols here,” said vocalist, Shane Bryant. “We couldn’t have asked for a better drummer to be on this record. Andols came in and nailed it after only a few rehearsals.”
I Will Break Thee is preparing to start the second phase of the recording process, tracking guitars by the end of January at Screamhouse Media in Winter Park, Fl. In the meantime, however, they have a few clips of pre-production demos which can be accessed through www.iwillbreakthee.com. They are preparing to release a video for their first single in April 2011.
I Will Break Thee will be releasing a series of webisodes throughout the process, to chronicle the making of the E.P.
ABYSMAL DAWN’s title track from their upcoming album, “Leveling the Plane of Existence,” is now available for download from Metal Maniacs. “Leveling the Plane of Existence” is due February 1st on Relapse Records.
“Leveling the Plane of Existence” is the band’s third full-length effort and their second with Relapse.
Recently Knoxville, TN's Whitechapel and drummer Kevin Lane decided to part ways. Kevin offered the following statement to answer fans questions about the split:
"Over the past years I've had the experience of a lifetime and gotten to travel the world with not only a great band of musicians but some of my best friends. Unfortunately that time has come to an end. My playing had a falling out over the past year, thus I've decided to come home for good and go back to school full time. The past few tours I had the privilege of my good friend Gavin Parsons to fill my shoes and now another phenomenal drummer who I believe will do leaps and bounds of improvement to the band as a whole, Ben Harclerode has moved into the position until the decision for a full time drummer has been made. Thank you to everyone for all of your support."
Founding member and guitarist Alex Wade adds: "It's sad to see Kevin go, he was not just a fellow band member, but like a brother to all of us. I think it is honorable of him to step down to better the band. He is still and always will be an amazing drummer and talented musician; I believe it is just time for a new chapter for Whitechapel. That being said we would like to welcome Ben Harclerode (formerly of Knights of the Abyss) to the band to fill the drumming position. In my opinion he is one of the most solid and talented drummers in modern metal and we couldn't be more excited for him to be playing with us. Ben will be helping us out until we take further measures to decide on a permanent drummer, but that is just something that is not needed right now, nor are we taking submissions. Come welcome Ben on our upcoming headliner and watch him shred his kit!"
Whitechapel also has the following upcoming tour dates: More...

As a companion to the "Heliocentric" release, The Ocean dropped a new album titled "Anthropocentric" in November of 2010. Dealing with issues like history and science, the two albums work together as a broad critique of blind faith and those who reject evidence that contradicts a preconceived world view.
While taking a break from touring, The Ocean's Robin Staps spoke with me about recording the new album in the mountains of Switzerland, his distaste for the term "Post-Rock," and the band's plans for upcoming tour dates. More...

The Chicago Tribune has reported that Jef Whitehead (a.k.a. Wrest of Leviathan, Krieg, and Nachtmystium) has been charged with criminal sexual assault and aggravated domestic battery. An excerpt from the report follows:
"Veterans of the tattoo world were trying to make sense of the allegations made against a renowned tattoo artist who Cook County prosecutors say used the tools of his trade to sexually assault his girlfriend after he slammed her head against a floor and choked her. Jef Whitehead, 42, was charged with criminal sexual assault and aggravated domestic battery Sunday and held on $350,000 bond after allegedly attacking his girlfriend.
"Prosecutors said an argument between the couple began about 12:30 a.m. Saturday at a home connected to a tattoo shop in the 1100 block of West Taylor Street. The woman was taken to the University of Illinois Medical Center in fair to serious condition, said Quention Curtis, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman. Her condition was not known Sunday. 'I've never known him to be violent to anyone — male or female,' Freddy Corbin said of Whitehead, whom he has known for more than 20 years.
"For the last three or four months, Whitehead has been traveling throughout the United States and parts of Europe on a tattooing tour, said Corbin, owner of Temple Tattoo in Oakland, Calif., where Whitehead has worked for three years."
No members of any of the band's Wrest is involved with have made any statements regarding the issue at this point in time. Additional details will be announced as they are made available.

Inmate has checked in with the following recap of 2010 events and announcement about upcoming activity:
"The year 2010 came to an end and we already entered the 2011. At the end of the year We usually look back at the past year to remember again all the great moments that happened to us and to learn from the mistakes we made. Some of the peaks of this year are definitely concerts in Austria, Germany and Croatia, summer open air festival concerts, being a part of Dark Tranquillity tour and entering the studio.
"But let us start at the beginning. We opened a concert season with our performance in Postojna (SI) at the beginning of February (Epic Rockline contest) where we proceeded into semifinals. Our next stop was a great concert in KMKC Kompleks in Ravne na Koroškem (SI) where we shared the stage with Brand New Idea and Device. Our second stop in March was Youth center Sežana where we performed with our metal brothers Necrotic and local band Kreation Kodex.
"In April we performed for the first time in Austria (Graz) where we attended Newcomer festival. Photos here. At the end of the month we again performed on a semifinal competition of Epic Rockline contest where we reached 2nd place. Kino Šiška (Ljubljana, SI) was our next stop in May. Performing at one of the best Slovenian venue's was really a great experience. The concert was actually a competition among 10 performing bands. Inmate was named as a band that with their performance really stepped out of all the participating bands and is definitely a band for big stages. More...
Winterfylleth has issued the following statement regarding reviews of the band's live show at the 2010 Candlefest:
"Friends, over the past few weeks we have been a bit disappointed to read a number of loaded reviews about Winterfylleth’s performance at Candlefest in November last year. Particularly those by a few of the mainstream metal magazines who have, once again, dragged us down a political route for comments passed on the night by me, Chris.
"As I have said during numerous interviews regarding areas of the mainstream press, I feel like there is an assumed political correctness and moral presumption that mainstream magazines think that they need to display in order to pacify themselves about their visible position on issues/situations etc. These things seem to once again be rearing their ugly heads by twisting the sentiments of what was said at Candlefest, sensationalizing the truth behind the message of distaste we were putting across at the extremist behavior shown by a few individuals on Armistice Day.
"To put this in context, Candlefest happened to fall upon St Edmunds Day (The day of one of the true patron saints of England, along with St Bede, that many historians and campaigners would place ahead of the fabled St George as the true icon of England), a date of celebration to many people and from our point of view a day of national pride that we celebrate.
"What I/we take exception too is the way that considered comments (like those that were made on the night) are sensationalized by a subjective spin on the true events that seems to be motivated more by Political Correctness than by truth. To paraphrase what I said on the night. More...
Each week in Unearthing the Metal Underground we take a look at lesser known bands that are keeping metal alive and kicking in their respective regions and hometowns. This week, we introduce you to three bands from Kuwait: a country that has seen wars fought on its own home ground and in neighboring regions, as well as becoming a home to families trying to get away from conflicts. It has also become a small hub of high quality heavy metal, in both terms of production and originality.
Voice of the Soul
While Voice of the Soul may be better known as a song from the purveyors of death metal, Death, it also happens to be a progressive/melodic death metal band from Kuwait. With the typical line up of influences such as At the Gates, Carcass, Arch Enemy and the aforementioned Death, Voice of the Soul has set about creating a sound that is both intensely heavy and technical, but melodic enough to create memorable and satisfying songs.
Formed in 2007 by three like-minded metal heads who wanted to cover some of their favorite songs, Voice of the Soul eventually started to write and record it's own material, which brought about the release of their its EP, “Winds of Apprehension," in 2009. It included 3 original songs and a cover of Death’s “Empty Words." With this first EP, Voice of the Soul took a very straight forward melodic death metal approach. The release of the second EP, “Eyes of Deceit," in 2010 saw the band take a more progressive approach to it's sound.
The band’s song “Farewell to Hope” was featured on the Metality Compilation alongside Norther and The Empire Shall Fall. The same song was also voted as the top metal track of 2010 by the readers of Rockability Magazine.
While the band members are currently all based in separate countries due to school, Voice of the Soul is working on a full length album. You can download the “Eyes of Deceit” EP here.
The 2011 Metalliance Tour has officially been announced, featuring HELMET, SAINT VITUS and CROWBAR for its inaugural line up. The festival tour will run through the U.S. from March 17th through April 5th.
HELMET will perform their 1992 platinum-selling release of "Meantime" in its entirety. The
Interscope Records release gave the band mainstream attention with songs like "Unsung" and "In The Meantime."
One of the most highly influential Doom Metal bands in America, SAINT VITUS are regarded as one of the first bands of the genre starting out as early as the 1970's. The band featuring Scott "Wino" Weinrich, bassist Mark Adams, guitarist Dave Chandler and drummer Armando Acosta has influenced so many bands in doom and metal. "Saint Vitus is more than ready to infect The Metalliance Tour! We've been wanting to do something like this for some time now...so prepare for destruction!!" says lead guitarist Dave Chandler. The band has done a handful of shows and some European Festivals but this will be their first full US tour in over a decade.
CROWBAR front man Kirk Windstein concludes, "Wow! This tour is gonna rule! I've loved Helmet since the beginning and loved St. Vitus even longer. With the new Crowbar record having hit the streets by then, look out! This bill will bring just what we need to crush each city with an avalanche of stylistic thunder!"
Ytsejam.com recently posted an interview online with Niels Vejlyt of Infinity Overture, in which Niels discusses the band's new album. An excerpt from the interview follows:
Tommy Hash: With this being the first part of "The Infinite Overture " what were the inspirations behind it?
Niels Vejlyt: The inspirations was that I think I progressed a lot regarding compositional skills, and also making use of the way I and Jakob Vand play our instruments.
TH: Musically, what was it that you sought out to do with this album as opposed to "Kingdom of Utopia"?
NV: I wanted to make the music more aggressive and progressive, I also wanted to incorporate a larger variety of musical styles - that way making it more progressive.
TH: How is it that you approached the arrangements on this album without going all out neo-classical?
NV: I wanted to make most of the songs very progressive in the way they are arranged, so that the songs has many different interesting instrumental parts.More...

The band is preparing to release its debut two-track digital and physical single "Nightmareland" in February with a full length to follow near the end of the year. Richard Sjunnesson commented on the new project by saying:
"We already have about ten songs in the pipeline for the album and everything sounds really awesome! I will assure you it sounds nothing like the 'new' Sonic, and the people who liked the classic Syndicate will be familiar with the take on these songs, for sure. I don't think we ever wrote this many songs in such a short period of time. And I believe it's the fruit of having creative freedom and loving what we do — it certainly has upped the pace."

"With having recently made amends with our original vocalist, Austin Carlile, and not after discussing all of our previous disputes and issues we’ve had with each other (like any other relationship, its not always a friendly exchange of happy words) we’ve collectively decided to return to, or as close to, our original lineup as we could.
"Now, we knew this was going to be a huge surprise to everyone and an unexpected turn of events for Of Mice & Men. We had to take into account the response our fans had to our necessity to change screamers in order to continue touring as well as what we felt comfortable with as a group in and out of the studio as well as what our management/label/booking agency team (yes we include them in almost any decision we make, we are a close family, a relationship we are extremely grateful for) felt was a good decision to make for the business aspect while taking into account our personal well being.
"To be put simply, both OM&M and Austin want to make another album together because we want give our fans the familiar sound they loved about our first album and build upon that for our follow up. We were willing to put our differences aside and re-establish our friendship and love for making music together. Finnish cello rock act Apocalyptica has posted the following statement online, in response to previous reports that the band had been sued by German metal act Rammstein. The statement reads;
"The [Anwalt24.de] article's headline [which suggested that Apocalyptica was forced to pay damages to Rammstein] is substantially wrong: neither the band Apocalyptica nor their management are or were involved in the described lawsuit. However, the parties involved are the band Rammstein and Sony Music Entertainment GmbH, as the successor of the by now-defunct affiliated label GUN Records.
"Apocalyptica and Halbe Miete Management regret the events, but neither had any influence on a violation of trademark and naming rights, nor any part in whatsoever resulting agreements.
"It is correct that GUN Records published advertisements with the stated endorsement disregarding existing agreements, and the band Rammstein subsequently filed a lawsuit against Sony Music Entertainment GmbH as the parent company. It is furthermore correct that Sony Music Entertainment GmbH and Rammstein have agreed on a settlement, the details of which, however, are unknown to Apocalyptica and Halbe Miete Management. We ask that further articles on the topic correctly reproduce the facts."

Sweden's Sin IV Ages has issued the following announcement about parting ways with drummer Kim Gustavsson:
"We’ve replaced our former drummer Kim Gustavsson with Mike Cameron Force (ex-Zonata, Enbound, The Grand Station). Due to the fact that Kim was leaving Sweden for a job and living in Norway, we weren't able to work and getting things done the way we wanted like pushing the band in its right direction. So therefore we decided on parting ways with him and look for a replacement in a steady permanent member. There are no hard feelings between us, we’re still friends and we wish Kim all the best of luck in his future endeavors and thanks him for his time in the band.
"After a long search, periods of frustration and a couple of additions during the past year without finding the right one, we finally came in contact with Mike who did an amazing impact on us. With his personality, musical creativity, skills as a drummer, knowledge in production and that he also lives near the rest of us made him an obvious choice for the band. Let the sinful madness carry on!"
