IWrestledABearOnce has built itself a studio to being recording a new album. The band members will be handling the production duties themselves and have already kicked off drum tracking for the album. Assisting in the production and also mixing the LP will be Ryan Boesch (Foo Fighters, Melvins, Andrew WK). The band has also launched a Tumblr account to document the experience at this location.
Guitarist Steven Bradley had the following to say: "Well it's been exactly two years since we were in the studio recording 'It's All Happening' and.. well... a shit ton has happened! We have made more friends/fans than I ever thought possible and seen the world in the process! And now, after two years of almost non-stop traveling, we have spent the past few weeks writing and are ready to begin tracking our second full length! This time around, we decided to just buy some new recording gear and I will be producing/engineering/mixing the album with some help from our 'sixth Beatle' and co-producer on the last album Ryan Boesch. If you liked our first EP and 'It's All Happening', then chances are you will enjoy this album too. We try to continuously evolve and push the envelope further in every direction, but we definitely still sound like us. Thanks for the support over the past few years and we're beyond stoked to see you back on tour in 2011 with some new songs in our set!"

The organizers of the Party.San 2011 festival have issued the following announcement about more bands appearing on the bill:
"Raised from the ashes of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost by Tom Gabriel Fischer himself, PARTY.SAN 2011 is proud and honored to announce the addition of Triptykon to its expanding bill of bands. Hell literally broke loose with the release of the band's Eparistera Daimone debut. Pitch black and truly evil music for devoted fans of extreme metal.
"Gorguts from Canada recently joined the PARTY.SAN bill. A death metal dinosaur of sorts, the band formed in 1989 and, having survived a host of trends, tragedies and breakups, are still going strong today. Gorguts will present to you a technical and extremely furious death metal show you will never forget.
"Enslaved are easily among Norway’s finest bands. The progressive black/Viking metal ensemble has remained dark and innovative for their two-decade-long existence and will bring their monolithic blackness to the PARTY.SAN 2011 stage." More...

Singapore grindcore trio Wormrot just finished a mini-tour of South East Asia, which included the band's first ever time visiting Thailand and Vietnam, where the band members claim they were forced to play two songs for permit officers prior to the show in order to be approved and allowed to perform. Following the band's return home, Wormrot has written a tour blog to detail recent shows. Some excerpts from the tour blog follow:
"14 Jan 2011 - Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The show in Embrace Hall was fucking awesome. There were some guys from Penang who took a 12 hours train ride just to see Wormrot! That was really touching and we really appreciate their support. Everyone seemed to have fun; moshing, dancing, stage dive, etc...
"15 Jan 2011 - Bangkok, Thailand. It is our first time in Thailand so we didn't know what to expect from the crowd... Turns out to be a killer! Crazy, crazy Thai crowd! There were about 70+ people in total but it seemed like there were 100 people in there. Stomping the stage and dancing like they've been possessed! It was like a Thai Boxing competition! More...

From the very beginning, heavy metal has been about rebellion against established norms and restrictive social institutions. That theme has never prevented metal from being influenced by the greatest of mankind’s various systems of organized repression, however. Using a guitar and a microphone to express discontent over the actions of parents and governments inevitably led to bands expressing their disgust with the beliefs behind those actions. Whether musicians are singing about it, railing against it, or just simply partaking of it in their free time, religion has an undeniable role to play in nearly every sub-genre of heavy metal.
Plenty of bands have been built up around an anti-religious atmosphere, whether a simple general sentiment or a full-on fervor that drives the music. Despite metal being frequently identified with an anti-religious standpoint, the style has more than its fair share or religious spokesmen. Famous musicians such as Dave Mustaine of Megadeth have never been particularly quiet about their Christian faith, even if they don’t expressly promote it in any given song. Explicitly Christian metalcore acts are also rapidly gaining widespread attention, with groups like August Burns Red taking over Hot Topic and acts like I The Breather touring the U.S.
In general, it would seem the thrash metal world either doesn’t care about Mustaine’s religious affiliation or is willing to overlook it for the sake of the music. Thrash certainly has its share of anti-Christian songs, but it’s a genre that’s more concerned with social issues or an overall aggressive musical feel than anything dealing with supernatural belief systems.
As any fan of metal can easily attest, not all genres are built equal, and what appeals to one metal head is a serious turn off for another. Black metal is easily among the most infamous of all metal styles, having cut its teeth in the early ‘90s across a back drop of church burnings and sensational media stories of power struggles between Satanic leaders. Names like Emperor and Mayhem were starting to make waves and become recognized in the underground not only across Europe, but also in the U.S. and abroad. More...

Available for the first time in North America as non-imports, Sabaton’s first four full-length albums will be re-issued by Nuclear Blast on April 14th, 2011. 2005’s "Primo Victoria (Re-Armed)" will include six bonus tracks, two live songs, and a cover of Twisted Sister’s “The Beast.”
Sabaton bassist Pär Sundström shares the following memories of the "Primo Victoria" recording sessions, why the Twisted Sister cover was selected, and why the live show in Falun was such a special show for the band:
"When we entered the studio to start the recording, we had no idea how Sabatib was meant to sound. I remember sitting behind the mixing desk when we first listened to all the harmonies in the chorus of the title track; that was one of the best memories from a studio session ever. During our studio sessions, we sometimes recorded songs that were never on any albums, this includes the song ‘The Beast’ by Twisted Sister. Twisted Sister is a Top 5 Bands for all members of Sabatib and there are so many memories for us all in their music. For the re-releases, we also included some live songs and on this one, there are a couple of tracks recorded in our hometown of Falun, Sweden. Falun has become a annual show where people from all around the world come because this is where Sabatib always gives a unique and special show.”
The track listing for "Primo Victoria (Re-Armed)" is as follows:
1. Primo Victoria
