Rush Limbaugh Blames Heavy Metal, In Part, For Arizona Shootings

Political commentator and perennial hot air bag Rush Limbaugh has jumped on the bandwagon of casting blame on heavy metal music for violent acts. Listing counter points to the criticism that has befallen Republicans and the Tea Party in light of the Tuscon, Arizona shootings and attempt on Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' life, Limbaugh stated of the shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, "The guy listened to heavy metal, and some of that anarchist stuff. We're dealing with an insane individual."

MetalInsider clarifies that "apparently, it was discovered that Loughner is a hard rock/metal fan through his MySpace page, where he posted a comment about attending a concert of Fear Before (formerly known as Fear Before The March Of Flames)."

Indeed, Rush, indeed. He's also right when he says all anarchists are insane. Think about it...if our current system of enslavement is "sane" then I'm quite happy to be insane. To anyone who believes right or left makes any fvcking difference at ALL for ANYTHING please pull your head out of your god damned ass. They world elite hide everything right out in the open and laugh at everyone who can't be bothered to ask questions and figure out the game. One simple example is the all seeing eye inside the cap stone returning to the top of the pyramid on the dollar bill with a very interesting slogan right below it reading "Novus Ordo Seclorum." If you don't know the significance of that I'm not going to sit here and explain it to you but everything is there if you choose to look for it. To quote the late great George Carlin...

"Forget the politicians...the politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have a choice. You don't...you don't have a choice. You have owners...they own you. They own everything...they own all the important land, they own and control the corporations, they've long since bought and paid for the senate, congress, city hall, state houses, they've got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media corporations so they can control and censor everything they don't want you to know about. They gotcha by the balls! They spend billions a year lobbying to get what they want. Well we know what they want...they want more for them and less for us. But I'll tell you what they don't want...they don't want a public capable of free critical thinking. They don't want a public capable of sitting around the kitchen table figuring out how badly they're getting fvcked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fvcking years ago! The table is tilted by friends...the game is rigged! Nobody seems to notice...nobody seems to care...these are good hardworking people of modest means who continue to elect cold hearted c*** suckers who don't give a fvck about them! They don't care about you! They don't give a FVCK about you!! AT ALL! And nobody seems to notice...nobody seems to care...and that's what the owners count on. They count on the fact that American's will remain willfully ignorant of the giant red white and blue d!cks being jammed up their asses every day. It's called the American dream because you've got to be asleep to believe it."

But of course the music he listens to is probably lame, "patriotic" country music and wasn't it the people that listened to that kind of music that supported the Iraq war which killed far more people than did the people who listen to metal? The argument goes both ways, Rush.

I could attack this from SO many different angles.
I know, I'll start by attacking that Rush.
The same Rush that condemned ANYONE caught using drugs to a life behind bars. The same Rush that was caught with drugs TWICE and expected leniency.
Don't even get me started on his stance on gays.
What was that about gays never being allowed into the military? Up yours, you lose.

Then we can tackle the tragedy of AZ.
The right is blaming the left.
The left is blaming the right.
Rush is blaming metal.
Katie Couric is blaming lucid dreaming.
Sorry but I've been lucid dreaming and astral projecting for years and I'm no more crazy than everyone else.
Well....maybe "Mad Hatter" crazy but with better taste in clothes.....ahem.

The media is DESPERATE to find one entity to blame this whole scenaio on and until the shooter starts to talk everyone will continue to speculate what his motives were.
It seems no one has learned the real lession in this whole thing.
The hateful rhetoric on all sides needs to stop.
How about this....the guy just lost his grip on reality and it's no one's fault.
Genetics?
Childhood?
Does it really matter?
Just put the guy in a puddle of water and hand him a toaster....tell Rush to hold his hand.
Sorry, that wasn't very nice either.....my bad.

Since I seem to be the only one who actually caught Rush's show yesterday, I would like to do what the Huffington Post did not and that is report on what he actually said.

Basically, Rush was responding to the inane assertion by Pima County Sheriff Dupnik that the Conservative movement was somehow connected with this individual. The Sheriff is echoeing the Left's talking points that talk radio, Sarah Palin, the Tea Party, etc are somehow responsible for the Tucson tragedy, instead of realizing this kid was nutter than squirrel turds and HAD NO POLITICAL AFFILIATION (he was a registered Independent).

Dupnink should be ashamed of himself for going on every show he could and giving his opinion prematurely before the investigation had begun. he made a huge error in allowing his political views to interfere with the investigation and in his attempt to blame Republicans for this tragedy is without substance and an embarrassment to the justice process.

Rush was using speculation in a sarcastic way when made these comments. His point was if the Sheriff could make baseless allegations that somehow Sarah Palin was responsible why not take it one step further and blame music, society, etc for the shooting instead of the gunman. His point was that Liberals have to blame someone for the tragedy and have attempted to connect this with Republicans instead of holding Jared Loughner accountable for what he did.

There is a difference between the two. Surprised at no prison time? He is a wealthy man and can buy the same kind of protection from law enforcement as can tons of other celebs.

The guy is a sick dumb ass. A sick dumb a$$ lives in a community with a charged political climate. A sick dumb a$$ living in a politically charged community has easy access to firearms. The guy had an interest in extreme politics. Without the charged political climate to begin with there’s hardly any air to blow into that kind of crap. Kooks always show up when politics gets heated. Some people thrive off of chaos. Religious wackos love it, too. Yes, this guy is sick, but disassociating him from his environment doesn’t work. He didn’t take aim at random citizens on a random street. He targeted a political event. Americans have a reputation for their love of guns. So, whatever mental illness the mob finds this guy to have, he is nonetheless brought up in the same political cage that produced racial profiling and the potential illegal targeting of immigrants (minorities), in an environment that encourages and fosters sometimes staunch and even extreme beliefs in gun control. America also makes international news for it’s religious extremism, and how it ties in politically. In AZ, it is also legal to hit a kid as punishment at school. The religious are actually often supporters of corporal punishment. Position of the Catholic Church on the matter, for example. It just doesn’t look like a great environment. Guns, red neck politics, beat the kids in school. I think I’ll stay where I am, thanks.

Why blame metal? Why not the all American attitude that guns are an intrinsic freedom and part of the American identity? A violent and pragmatic culture that fosters corporal punishment in schools held on high often by religious domination? That targets minorities, period, by their own standards, regardless of the laws of the country? And how does the overall effect of such a culture, that serves to produce a political elect, turn the actions of a mentally ill outcast into a political movement? Why not point at a lack of mental health services? AZ is apparently one of the worst states for mental health services. By the time an individual can’t function in society their mental illness is severe. At 22, that guy probably hit the wall. Real life is too tough, and requires too much responsibility, to function with severe mental illness. Up until that day that guy was all but invisible, and so, likely, were his problems, but that’s not what the argument became about. There might be a lot of finger pointing, and a lot of different groups or individuals seem to be trying to take their piece of this, but it might point to some legitimate problems. Also pre-existing problems. I imagine in the end, as usual, the conclusion will be reached that killing more criminals after the fact is the answer to the problem, only after several years, of course, of taking it up the ass. Nothing changes.

So Rush has 12 million listeners daily, huh? Man, is that sad. Twelve million people listening to the same guy who got fired from his sports-casting job for making an openly racist remark on the air. And I don't suppose you heard what he had to say about the earthquake in Haiti one year ago? He clearly stated he didn't give a flying f--- about all the suffering that occurred there. And yet countless conservatives idolize him and hang on his every word. Sad.
Sometimes I think it is the 'patriotic' citizens who are being fooled the most... they're hardcore pro-America, and take massive offense to any negative comment made about this country that I actually call home too. "Land of the free, home of the brave..."... really? Then how come people can still be beaten to death on its streets for their sexual orientation or ethnicity? Is that the land of the "free"? Or where movie stars, sports stars and celebrities get paid millions of $$$ per movie or game, while teachers-- who are only educating the future of America, after all-- don't make jack s---? My mother is a teacher, I'll have you know. And she'll somehow never see as much $$$ in her lifetime as Tom f---ing Cruise or Brad f---ing Pitt. Does that sound like America has its priorities in order to you?
But let me guess. Since I'm spouting negativities about my own country, I must be a "socialist". Right? Well, gee. I somehow doubt that. Another thing to mention is that I have taken a lot of harassment and even some forms of abuse for dressing different and acting different in my own country. America is a country built on staunch conformity, and woe betide anyone who dares to stand out and be their own person, 'cause you will take a world of s--- for it. I've been called freak, fag and even been spit on. Because I dared to be different. Death Metal Rules I would like to respond to some of your points:

"And I don't suppose you heard what he had to say about the earthquake in Haiti one year ago?"
I do not recall his statements about Haiti nor did I pay attention to the Aid Relief because I knew any money sent to that country would never reach the ones who truly need it because they have a corrupt government that will not disperse the funds to the general public. Additionally, Speaking for strictly for myself, I think America needs to stop all foreign aid and remove our troops from all foreign countries because our country is broke. I take the Libertarian stance that we need to fix our country first and need to stop worrying about the rest of the world's issues.

"Land of the free, home of the brave..."... really? Then how come people can still be beaten to death on its streets for their sexual orientation or ethnicity? Is that the land of the "free"?"
Human beings will unfortunately commit violent crimes no matter the circumstances and community. There is no Utopia where everyone is holding hands and signing Kambuya. In Los Angeles gang members kill each other because one because one is from 7th Street and one is from 9th Street, so even if there were no "hate crimes" such as the examples you cited there would still be homicides, rapes, & murders. Far more people are killed because of their gang affiliation than for their sexual orientation and/or ethnicity.

Or where movie stars, sports stars and celebrities get paid millions of $$$ per movie or game, while teachers-- who are only educating the future of America, after all-- don't make jack s---?
Teachers, at least in my state of California, are for the most part incompent and protected by tenure as per the collective bargaining agreement instituted by Jerry Brown at the conclusion of his second term. Do you have any idea what the tax-payer funded pension program is like for a teacher, especially the lavish benefits they will receive the last decades of their lives? Teachers work nine months out of the year, retire at 55 and get 90% of their salary the rest of their lives. I will be working until I am 70+ to pay for THEIR pension when the average high school graduate can barely even put two senteces together. Our education system is in shambles and if the teachers actually cared about children getting the best possible education they would support privitizing the school districts. However, they do not because that would mean the teachers and administrators would actually have to work until they were 70 and fund their own retirements instead of distributing my tax dollars into their bank account long after they have left the classroom. I do agree sports stars and actors make obscene amounts of money, but I have not seen a Tom Cruise movie in ten years so all you can do is chose to not use your money to see the movie.

"Since I'm spouting negativities about my own country, I must be a "socialist". Right?"
hmmmm...Since, I'm spouting negativities about my own president, I must be rascist. Right? I agree that those are both unfair generalization but they go both ways. I believe in freedom of speech and that people can criticize any president, be it George Bush or Obama because I do not trust either one of them.

"Well, gee. In a free society you are allowed to dress and act however you want and people are allowed to respond however they chose. If they break a law in harassing you, they go to jail. In our free society you are also allowed to defend yourself if you are being attacked. What is your alternative? Does it have to do with limiiting freedom of speech or maybe putting a "secret" police officer at every street corner to monitor social justice?

Twelve million people following a racist, uncaring hypocrite... time to lose your religion, people
In a free society people are allowed to worship God or Satan or Al Gore or nothing at all. It sounds like you support ending freedom of religion. Why do you want to take away individual liberty when it comes to religious worship?

I’m Canadian. This stuff floods Canadian media all the time. All the big name right wing religious American celebrities/politicians tour my damn country. The same crap like Fox and religious evangelists is available here all the time. There is a picture of the queen on the f***ing money, and a tax (GST/HST) like the VAT, yet our country is flooded with American politics (AZ issues have been in the new for a long time, and I only watch national new programming), American religion, American media in general, and American guns. I’ve lived in two cities where guns were such a problem that I moved twice, and ALL of those guns were American guns. We live in close proximity to a country that has high firearms production and different gun regulations, and guns are highly available. American politicians get up and quack at the Canadians anytime the marijuana issue comes up too close to national politics. They say the drugs would enter their country if it was legalized in Canada, and they won’t have any of that. Yet guns flow freely. The American representatives lean heavy anytime Canadian policy gets too far way from the American mandate. Celebrities like Rush I hope go the way of the dinosaur. I’m sick of hearing this sh**. All the 80’s metal hype, and the Tipper Gore days were alive and well in Canada, too. The priests make sure the hate stays alive if things get too quiet. Popular comments by guys like Rush is like gas for these guys’ fire. Campaigns against music in general is not new for religious types, even hundreds of years ago.

And I am actually all for freedom of religion, as well as freedom FROM religion, a concept that gets little notice or credit in this country. I am actually a very spiritual person, but a lot of what I've learned of formal religious systems and practices turns me off.

Back in the day, before the separation of church and state, not music necessarily, but ideas and philosophies (and the philosophers that procured them) were attacked by the state. Any ideas that were felt to be a threat to the state were attacked, eliminated, even philosophers deported from cities. Religion was the state then. Now, metal could be said to contain philosophies or ideas that run counter to the religious right, what they see as rebellion which is bad for their “state.” It’s this area of the world with it’s action to counter any wayward philosophy that produced the Roman Catholic Church. Originally the church of the state. I highly misogynistic, racist, and bigot-ridden state. In terms of music, with the Roman Catholic regime through the dark ages, music was found to be too secular. In fact, with the protestant revolution, rather than more freedom, you had a lot of hard nosed bigots that banned music, dancing, and games.

Bruno: Thanks for the e-mail address man, I wrote it down but I am not feeling particularly inclined to delve deeply into an involved discussion of politics at the moment. Thanks, though. One thing Rush did that surprised me [and a lot of others, I'm sure] was having Elton John play at his most recent wedding. I thought, that's cool, though I wondered how much he was going against his own beliefs by doing so. I also question how many of his die-hard followers were aghast or p***ed off by that: "Why the f--- did he have that fa**ot play at his wedding??" If Rush isn't truly racist or homophobic, that's to his credit, but I still don't feel right about supporting him in any way. I had a friend years ago from Colorado that I was once best buds with. However, as time went on, he began to move farther to the right ideologically, and I began moving farther to the left, eventually dividing us. I'm not liberal on every issue, though. I am in favor of the death penalty, for example. But on most other looming issues I take a left-leaning stance. Hey, I have a Dead Kennedys tattoo that I gave myself when I was 20. I grew up on punk music in my teens, though metal was my first love [seeing the music video for GNR's "Welcome to the Jungle" changed my life at age 14]. And I returned to it about 5 years ago.
