Charred Walls Of The Damned drummer Richard Christy has posted the following recording update online:
"Last week I recorded drum tracks for 12 new songs for the second Charred Walls Of The Damned album!
"I flew down to Miami, Florida the day after Christmas to start tracking drums at the legendary studio The Hit Factory Criteria Studios.
"The drum room we recorded in was insane; it was the size of a school gymnasium and my drums sounded massive in there!
"We got a very natural drum sound, thanks to our awesome engineer, Mark Lewis, and the amazing drum room. Everything went really smooth and we finished up in a very quick two and a half days, and I'm super-excited for everyone to hear the monster drum sound we got for these awesome songs.
"Seeing gold albums hanging on the walls from bands like The Eagles and Black Sabbath was so inspiring, too. The historic music that's been created at that studio is just unreal and it was an honor to record the drums for the second Charred Walls Of The Damned album there.
"We'll be finishing up the rest of the album in January and February at Audiohammer Studios in Orlando and we're hoping to have the album out sometime this summer.
"The songs are super-heavy, brutal, and very melodic and catchy, like the first album,
"I can't wait for people to hear our new material!"

Romanian progressive metal act Negura Bunget has issued the following update:
"2010 was the most intense year in the history of the band. Two albums released, 'Maiestrit' on Prophecy Production and 'Vîrstele Pamîntului' on Code666 Records, followed by a long European tour as headliners (Spirit Of The Land Tour — 47 dates), another tour in autumn (Black Trolls Over Europe — ten dates), some festivals in between (including Hellfest), some lineup changes (guitarists Corb and Spin were replaced by Urzit and Fulmineos), a MCD to symbolically end our ten years cooperation with Code666 Records and a lot of work, all make this year special and unforgettable.
"Figures for 2010: 72 gigs played, two European tours as headliners, more than 50,000 km of driving on our van, 66 answered interviews, more than 10,000 CDs sold.
"We thank everybody who helped us in any way, and we promise we are already focusing on making 2011 even more special!
"The firsts signs are here already, 2011 marks 15 years of Negura Bunget, so all our activities will celebrate this anniversary. We already have the release of the live DVD, 'Focul Viu', set for March, the April tour along Enslaved (which includes a special performance at Ragnarok Festival) and some summer festivals (of which Party. San is already announced). 2011 will also develop one of our most ambitious projects, 'The Transilvanian Trilogy'.
"We hope to meet again as many of you as possible and meanwhile we wish meaningful experiences in the year ahead."
We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Page Townsley of Vore shares a couple incidents that stand out to him:
We’re seen the gamut of drunks, fights, animal parts, tits, knocked over PA speakers and head wounds in pits over the years to be sure. There are two pit incidents that stand out to me in particular though as being unique...
One was back in 1998. We were on stage playing and this huge dude suddenly falls down in the front and starts shaking like crazy. He just collapsed and started vibrating. Turns out the guy had epilepsy and went into a grand mal seizure. It was a small place and downstairs, so we had to stop the show for thirty minutes or so while the venue called the paramedics who showed up and took the dude to the hospital. Fortunately there was someone there who had some first responder experience with epileptics that knew what to do until the EMT’s showed up to keep the guy from swallowing his tongue and hurting himself.
The other one was last year while we were playing a show at Downtown Music in Little Rock, AR. We had a huge pit going on and I suddenly see this leg go flying. That is leg singular, no body attached. Someone in the pit had a prosthetic leg and had it knocked off of him. Another person picked it up and was swinging it around and holding it up in the air like a trophy. I can’t say I’d ever seen someone get their leg torn off at a show before. I gave props to the guy with the leg for getting into the pit. I admired him for not letting a disability prevent him from jumping into a mosh pit and going ape shit with everyone else.
VORE has been hard at work recording their new album, "Gravehammer," and plans to have it finished early this year. "So far it’s going really well. I honestly think it’s going to be the best thing VORE has done," comments Page.
In the meantime, check out some of Vore's music on the band's MySpace page.
Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.
Denver's Cryogen has issued the following announcement about offering its entire discography as downloads available for any price, including free:
"To celebrate the new year and their upcoming full length (to be released later this year) Cryogen has put up their entire current discography as 'Name your price' downloads, which includes free. Preview and download tracks from this location.
"Please help Cryogen out and spread the word on your Facebook, website, or blog by clicking the 'Share' link on any album page. Thanks, and spread the metal!"
After narrowly escaping death in our last interview, this foolish, puny human decided to brave another trek into the camp where A Band of Orcs was merrily feasting on soft elf flesh. It's been three years since the release of the debut "WarChiefs of the Apocalypse," and in that time the orcs have continued rampaging across Earth as they try to bring about the Domination. Fresh off the release of its debut album "These Are My Sins" Baltimore, Maryland's I the Breather have quickly become a recognized name in the underground metal and hardcore scenes. With a hectic year behind them in 2010 and a 2011 shaping up to be just as busy vocalist Shawn of the Baltimore-based metalcore act took time out of the band's schedule to sit down with Metalunderground.com to discuss the band's debut album, "These Are My Sins," as well as the band's religious beliefs and its 2011 touring plans. Heaven Shall Burn's publicist has issued the following tongue-in-cheek update about upset religious folks on twitter discovering the band's name:
"The cat is out of the bag! Finally conservative, religious representatives revealed what Heaven Shall Burn is all about: they are flaming Satanists – and the virtual world used the chance to express their enragement via twitter at this location.
"The band is happy that someone has finally managed to read between the lines, stating that: 'Us being into the glorification of violence, destruction of the earth and Satanism has been an open secret. Our videos for Combat and Endzeit speak a very clear language regarding what we are about. Finally our message translated – even to religious fanatics!'
"In the summer of 2010 Heaven Shall Burn and Century Media Records still tricked the oldest organization dedicated to the protection of human rights, Amnesty International, into premiering their video for 'Combat' and managed to undermine the system supposedly as philanthropist and pacifists – little did they know, they were helping spread a secret message. After the current revelations on twitter this would have never been possible…
"Anyone who would like to (further) support the Devil, death and destruction should watch out for their latest album “Invictus” that landed on #9 in the German Media Control Album Charts. Reportedly, many immaculate souls have been doomed ever since. Horns up!" More...

Stratovarius recently announced that drummer Jörg Michael was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Jörg has now issued the following update":
"Dear All, I hope this mail finds everybody well. The first leg of the European tour with Helloween is over -- time to have a few words with you. First, let's not forget the brilliant emergency rescue action and playing of Alex [Landenburg]. Thanks again for all what you did for the fans, the band and also for me. Surely I hate the idea of somebody sitting on 'my chair' but this special action needed some special treatment and I am proud and happy that it was you, Alex. Thanks again.
"I was overwhelmed by all the wishes, tons of emails and text messages I received from all over the world wishing me a speedy recovery. Thank you so much for supporting me. It made me feel very strong fighting these bastards inside of me.
"I have some good news to tell you and believe me - I really enjoy to tell the world: The surgery was done over six weeks ago and the first therapy is done as well. All looks good so far and as [keyboardist] Jens [Johansson] told me before: 'Do not worry, Jörg. What should survive in your body after all that you did to him!' Finally, he was right. There are only small bits and bobs left - I will fight those with another therapy session in about four months time. I think I've been very lucky that it was discovered by one of my friends in a very early state. Very good that my friend decided to become a doctor; he was very lousy when he tried playing the guitar. More...

For the original band members Harry Conklin (vocals), Mark Briody (guitar) and John Tetley (bass), Jag Panzer has always been something they held close to their hearts. "We've known each other from our earliest childhood and have never lost sight of the idea that this band is based on," Tetley explains. "I don't exactly want to use the term 'spiritual', but the three of us are connected with this band by a very special relationship. You could say that our lives are inseparably linked with the history of Jag Panzer."
Jag Panzer is set to release its latest album "The Scourge Of The Light" on 28 February 2011 in Europe, 25 February 2011 in Germany, and on 8 March 2011 in the U.S.
Guitarist Chris Broderick left the group in 2007 to join the ranks of Megadeth. "There can be no question that Chris Broderick is an amazing guitarist, and we were really happy for him that he got this chance with Megadeth. But we feel that thanks to Christian Lasegue, Jag Panzer's classic, clearly more melodic power metal style has returned and that the fans will definitely be happy about this." Tetley commented. "We knew that Christian was the best man for the job, after all he was a band member for three years in the mid-1980s. I feel The Scourge Of The Light is the best-sounding album in the history of Jag Panzer."
Finnish folk metallers Korpiklaani have posted a music video online for the song "Tequila," which can be viewed below. The song is off the new album "Ukon Wacka," which is set for release on February 4th, 2011 in Eurpe and February 25th, 2011 in North America.
As previously announced, Septicflesh's forthcoming album will hit the stores on April 18th in Europe (one day later in North America). The Greek act's new opus is entitled "The Great Mass" and will be available in several formats to be unveiled soon.
A 30 second clip off the new single "The Vampire from Nazareth" can be heard at this location. French fans can also find the song (along with 14 other tracks from the Season of Mist catalogue) on a Dropcard offered exclusively with the current issue of Hard Rock Magazine.
Season of Mist has issued the following brief update about signing a record deal with Endstille: "Season of Mist is proud to welcome German Black metallers Endstille! The band's seventh grenade, which title is yet to be unveiled, has been tentatively scheduled for a spring 2011 release."
"We're satisfied to get reinforcements now by our new comrades of Season of Mist," Endstille commented. "They already proved to be a successful label in the past. So we know that our new brothers in arms can give us enough support for being finally at war with all."
Additional details on the upcoming album will be announced as they are made avialable.
The Project Hate MCMXCIX is set to release the new album "Bleeding The New Apocalypse (Cum Victriciis In Manibus Armis)" on February 14th, 2011 in European and February 22nd in the U.S. The band has now issued the following announcement about streaming a song online from the upcoming album:
"So, your first taste of the diabolical inferno that is 'Bleeding the New Apocalypse' will now be unleashed upon mankind. The song in question is called 'Summoning Majestic War' and is the fourth tune on the coming masterpiece that will be released on February 14th, 2011, thru Season of Mist.
"Why have we chosen this particular track to be your first glimpse of the new album? No reason really, we could have chosen any of them since they all absolutely dominate. We just thought it’d be nice to have Leif Edling somewhat introduce you to what we have created this time around. Yeah, CANDLEMASS bassist/everyday legend Leif Edling contributes some spoken words in this track. You can all start applauding now. But not only that. In this tune you’ll also get some insanely nice vocals from Christian Älvestam (who also sang a line or two on our last album).
"So, that’s a lot of bonus stuff for ya apart from the simple fact that ‘Summoning Majestic War’ is a goddamn phenomenal symphony that represents TPH in every shape, way and form. If you survive these 12+ minutes of pure excellence, pray you’ll survive the remaining five tracks on 'Bleeding the New Apocalypse' as well. It will not be an easy task. Domination is a fierce beast. Our work is done – now it’s your turn to purchase the album and help us ship a few copies so we will be able to record another masterpiece with a great label such as SOM backing us up. If you consider yourself a fan of music in general and TPH in particular, and do not absolutely love what we have created in this song, as well as the whole album – you are apparently deaf.”
Rock is responsible for some of the biggest icons and best frontmen in the history of music, there's no doubt about it. Freddie Mercury, Jimi Hendrix, Bon Scott, they were all rockers and will always be remembered for their commanding performances and outstanding music. Twenty five years ago today, a man easily as great and special as all of the those mentioned previously passed away at the age of thirty six. The man was Phil Lynott, best known as the singing bassist of Thin Lizzy, one of the biggest bands to ever come from the Republic Of Ireland. Lynott was the main composer for the band and was responsible for penning what are arguably some of the best songs in the history of rock music. "The Boys Are Back In Town," "Jailbreak," "Dancing In The Moonlight," look at the credits and you'll see his name by each of these songs. As a frontman, Lynott will always be known as one of the best. One only has to listen to "Live And Dangerous," the classic live album from Thin Lizzy, to hear how he commanded the attention of the audience. He is perhaps the main reason why that album never fails to reach any critics list of best live records.
The influence of Lynott and Thin Lizzy has reached countless bands from Judas Priest to the Happy Mondays to Atreyu, as well as rock fans across the globe, including yours truly. Indeed, I was only five years of age when I became aware of them, owing predominantly to the use of "The Boys Are Back In Town" on a trailer for the movie, Toy Story. I became as interested in that song and who sang it as much as I did the film and later that year was given, "Wild One: The Best Of Thin Lizzy" as a birthday gift. This was made all the more special in that it was my first album and all the more interesting with each passing track. I was blown away by the sonic onslaught of "Cold Sweat" and "Killer On The Loose," while being subdued by the melodies of "Whisky In The Jar" and "Sarah." Ever since I received that CD, with Lynott's face emblazened on the front cover in sepia, I have loved Thin Lizzy and to this day, consider them to be perhaps the greatest pound for pound rock band of all time. Gwynbleidd has issued the following update about working on a new album:
"It's been a few months since last piece of news. With the beginning of a new year we've decided its time to send you a quick update on what's going on in the Gwynbleidd camp! After the October 2009 release of Nostalgia, 2010 featured some of Gwynbleidd's biggest shows to-date, as we had a chance to share the stage with a number of notable acts including Katatonia, Entombed, Orphaned Land and Swallow the Sun. At the same time we have been focusing on writing new material and starting to put together some of the initial pieces to the puzzle that will be the next Gwynbleidd album. No song titles or anything just yet.. although we might as well reveal that the working title for the next album is 'Ascendance.'
"With that in mind, we are planning to record a 3-4 song demo of this new material, most of the music for which is ready to go! The demo will go primarily to labels we hope to attract to partner on the recording and release of the second Gwynbleidd full length.
"As far as live shows, we have only one confirmed show of 2011 so far, and that is on February 4th, 2011 at Europa Nightclub in Brooklyn (see the flier below). We are also working on a potential short East coast run in the first half of the year, as well as a few dates in Poland in August - but all of that is in very early planning stages - so keep your fingers crossed for us! Here's to a productive 2011!"

Australian rock act Sydonia has issued the following update about adding on two final dates to the "Ocean of Storms" tour:
"Sydonia are stoked to announce that they will be concluding their successful "Oceans of Storms" national single tour with two shows in WA. Mixed by the famed Colin Richardson (Slipknot, Machine Head, Trivium etc), the single is a prelude to a much anticipated album to come later in the year.
"Following on from an outstanding run of shows on the east coast with USA numetal legends Korn, and multiple sets at the Woodford Festival in Qld, the Melbourne based percussive alt-metal four piece will be hitting the Amplifier Bar stage on Fri 21st Jan with The Meaning Of, Brutus and Sparring for Shotgun. Then, if you want a second dose, which I'm sure you will, Sydonia will be at Charles Hotel on Sat 22nd with Basically Naked, West of October and Baby Jane. Finally, catch them for an early arvo/evening, doors 5:30pm, @ Mojo's in North Fremantle on Sunday 23rd, supported by Opia, Copious and Arkayan."

Multinational melodic metal band Eden's Curse will return with its third studio CD, "Trinity," on March 18th via AFM Records. Eden's Curse has announced that leading the Curse Choir this time around is none other than Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie. LaBrie lends his backing vocals to the entire album and also duets with Eden's Curse front man Michael Eden on the track "No Holy Man," which is also set to be released by AFM Records as a digital single on February 25th. A promotional video is currently in production as well.
Michael Eden states: "James recorded the 'Trinity' sessions at Iguana Studios in Ontario straight after he finished his solo release, 'Static Impulse', which was perfect timing as he headed off on tour with Iron Maiden immediately after. "
James LaBrie himself adds: "In 2010 I was fortunate to discover Eden's Curse. I absolutely love this band. Great players and people and they deserve nothing but huge success. They belong with the best of today's music. Trust me, you're going to love this from beginning to end."
Bass player and main songwriter Paul Logue explains: "James was highly professional, as you'd expect, extremely approachable and very enthusiastic about our music. We sealed the deal very quickly and we got him in top form as he was also in the middle of recording and we feel the end results are breathtaking."
Michael Eden further adds: "'Trinity' has been a long time in the making as we always strive to bring our current fan base and new fans our very best. I spoke with James LaBrie backstage on the Iron Maiden tour last summer and we had a great conversation. James has a way of making you see things in a different light than other people. It was an honor to have him along for the ride and we hope that it is not the last time we work together."
Eden then goes on to add, "We still have more cool surprises we will announce soon, this party is just getting started."
A 90-second clip of "No Holy Man" is available at the Eden's Curse official MySpace page.
