Manowar To Release "Kings Of Metal MMXIV" In Feb.

"Kings Of Metal MMXIV" is a completely new recording with many surprises, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of "Kings Of Metal" and Manowar's following world tour. The release is due out February 28th, 2014.

For "Kings Of Metal MMXIV," Manowar recorded timeless metal anthems with new arrangements and the band's signature "larger than life" sound. "Our fans have made us the 'Kings Of Metal,' and with this tribute to one of their favorite albums, we honor them and thank them for their unparalleled support and loyalty!" said Manowar vocalist Eric Adams.

The album will feature 9 main tracks packed with face-melting metal, plus 9 bonus tracks with over 40 minutes of additional music. "We have pushed man and machine to the maximum level to honor the original recordings that we all love, and to add new aspects and surprises that give this new album its own character," said bassist and producer Joey DeMaio. "The sound is again as massive and majestic as it has always been," he continued.

"Recording this album has been an amazing experience! After playing the songs so many times on tour, Donnie and I now had the opportunity to contribute our own sound and elements that the fans have come to love from our live performances," explained guitarist Karl Logan.

For the new narration on the spoken word track "The Warrior's Prayer MMXIV," Manowar joined forces with British actor Brian Blessed. For special effects of the highest level on "The Warrior's Prayer MMXIV," sound effects specialist Hamilton Sterling was recruited. More...

Rise Of Avernus Signs With Code666

Rise of Avernus, the orchestral doom metal band from Australia, has signed a multi-album contract with Aural Music imprint Code666.

The band's debut album titled “L’Appel Du Vide," is due for release in late January 2014 and was mastered by Jens Bogren of Fascination Studios, with artwork by Seth Siro Anton of Septicflesh. Code666 comments:

"Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Rise of Avernus are quickly becoming a well known entity throughout the Australian metal scene.

"Within the short time frame since the release of their debut EP in 2012, Rise of Avernus have relentlessly toured around the country sharing the stage with bands such as Enslaved, Rotting Christ, and Apocalyptica performing a unique style of music stemming for many different genres, the band can best be described as 'Orchestral, Progressive Doom Metal.'

"Whilst this styling is very evident through their 2014 debut album ‘L’Appel Du Vide', there is an exploration throughout a vast range of moods and expressions that truly sets Rise of Avernus apart from others. Transcending the tradition realms of progressive metal, 'L’Appel Du Vide' delves into a rich tapestry of dark orchestral soundscapes whilst exploring dark and poignant themes through their lyrics. The extremity of beauty refracts against a dark aural environment with elements of symphonic doom and death metal…"

Here’s what the band had to say about signing the contract: “Rise of Avernus are extremely excited to announce our multi-album signing with Aural Music. Home to a plethora of boundary pushing metal bands. The signing will see the international release of our debut album 'L’Appel Du Vide.' We are incredibly honoured to be joining a label that has such an established track record of quality releases, and can’t wait to unleash this album!” More...

Death Metal Christmas Posts Lyric Video

With Christmas now less than a week away, Hate Eternal bassists J.J. Hrubovcak marches on with his yule tide tirade, today unleashing a lyric video for "O Come, O Come Azrael." Give it a listen below, courtesy of Metal Injection.

The latest holiday hymn comes by way of the recently released "Death Metal Christmas - Hellish Renditions Of Christmas Classics" full-length (reviewed here).

Comments Hrubovcak of "O Come, O Come Azrael," the fourth stop in Azrael's journey across the album, "At this point, Azrael is fully self-actualized but the lyrics to this one don't address the story as much as the other songs. Instead, this song serves as more of an invocation. The guitars in the beginning and middle are designed as a swallowing force to sink the mind into the meditative subconscious and create complete focus for the invocation. This song is basically an anthem for misanthropes everywhere! So turn out the lights, break out the candles and sing - REJOICE!" More...

Animals As Leaders Announces New Tour

Animals As Leaders will kick off the New Year with a massive headlining North American tour on February 24th with After The Burial, Navene Koperweis, and Chon.

The first batch of dates are listed below and more will be announced in the coming weeks. The debut Sumerian Records album from Animals As Leaders is targeted for March release and a new track will surface online in late January.

Javier Reyes states: "We are definitely very excited about our upcoming headliner as it's been over two years since we did our last headlining North American tour. I think we have chosen a line-up that consist of extremely talented acts. Our labelmates, After the Burial, are a band we have yet to ever share the same stage with, so we are definitely looking forward to that. Ex-AAL drummer Navene Koperweis is coming out and performing solo and Chon are a very cool band we think people will enjoy.

"However, we are mostly excited about finally playing new material. I think some of the new tracks are some of AAL's strongest and musical material yet, so I am looking forward to seeing the crowd reactions. I am really happy how the album is coming out. Everyone who took part with this album (Misha Mansoor, Adam Getgood, Diego Farias, and Navene Koperweis) is extremely talented and I think we've done a great job of capturing it onto what is now the third Animals As Leaders album. See you all soon." More...

The Kennedy Veil Releases New Song

Today Sacramento death metal heathens The Kennedy Veil bring you "Enslave.Defile.Erase," which can be heard below courtesy of Revolvermag.com.

The vicious little number comes by way of the band's forthcoming "Trinity Of Falsehood" long player. The album was produced by Nick Botelho at NB Recording in Santa Rosa, California and features the debut of new throat Taylor Wientjes. "Trinity of Falsehood" is due out January 21st, 2014.

Comments Wientjes, "Trinity of Falsehood is thematically focused around the concept of religion being deceitful and contradictory, inherently corrupt and filled with excess amounts of greed. In many instances, there's an almost complete disregard to the inconsistencies in their respective doctrines. 'Enslave.Defile.Erase,' in particular, represents the perspective of how religious dogma is perpetuated through faith and lies, and how it can drive men to do both asinine and downright insane things in the name of their respective deities."

We also previously premiered a new track from the album. If you missed it, check out "In The Ashes of Humanity" at this location. More...

The Unguided Releases New Music Video

The Unguided has released a new music video for "Inception," which can be viewed below courtesy of Metal Injection, and the band also comments:

"If you take a brief peek in the rear-view mirror of our carrier, this music video is the thirteenth professional production up to date. We’ve basically tried and done everything when it comes to music videos, so we asked ourselves; how the hell do we top all that, with this release!? Certainly this massive album deserves to be spoiled with an equally spectacular music video!

"The answer came to be fairly obvious. We simply had to shift gear up to 'ludicrous speed' and add 'extra everything' to the project, of course in our own unguided fashion. And with the right allies in; 11Frames Production, right band and the right song; we’ve made our carriers most impressive and brutal creation; up to date!"

"Just imagine the opportunity to have a show; in a machine infested city, were laser sights are following your every move, right in the middle of an epic battle between heavens cast outs, while a nuclear firestorm is moving closer. I can’t picture a better location to unleash the live energy of The Unguided, and that’s exactly what happens in this production! We had a lot of fun scripting and recording this, hope you’ll have as much fun, watching it. Only robots were harmed in the making of this music video."

The band's new album "Fragile Immortality" will see release via Napalm Records on February 3rd (Europe) and Febuary 11th (North America). More...

Rings Of Saturn Splits With Drummer

Rings of Saturn has checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with the band's drummer and working on a new album:

"Our drummer, Jesse Beahler, has made the decision to leave Rings of Saturn in order to put all his concentration into his other band Black Crown Initiate. It was awesome touring with him, and we wish him the best of luck in his future musical endeavors!

"Despite this unfortunate news, we also want to announce that we are officially working on a new record! Because of our drum situation, Aaron Kitcher from Black Tongue and Infant Annihilator has agreed to do the drums on our 3rd album. We are SUPER excited about this and feel that his input will really blow peoples minds on our new material.

"Aaron will not be joining the band because he is already committed to two very active bands. So, we ARE looking for a touring drummer who can play material from Embryonic Anomaly, Dingir, and will be down to learn songs from the new record so we can hit the road on tours to support the upcoming release.

"If you are an epic drummer who is up for this, send some play through videos our way!"

Cattle Decapitation has begun the writing process for the follow-up to 2012's "Monolith of Inhumanity." The band comments:

"Since we got home from The Summer Slaughter Tour the guys have been hard at work on new material! I actually go in next week to grab a quick run through of the first new track they have completed so I can start writing lyrics to it.

"I have heard the track and I hate to say anything just yet because we will be spending the next full year from now working on the next album, but I will say the stuff they're working on is intense. I can't wait to start writing lyrics to it and so far is in league with one of our current musical aspirations… to make fans of our last record shit themselves!

"We'll be taking a small break to play a few shows in our region with EyeHateGod and our friends Strong Intetion on their January tour!"

Windhand Drummer Discusses Latest Recordings

Windhand took 2013 with gale force. The Richmond, Virginia group initiated its run with Relapse Records by releasing two recordings. The first release arrived in April, a split with fellow masters of crawling grooves, Cough, titled "Reflection of the Negative." The second came in the form of the band's second full-length "Soma."

Both recordings found a special place in the hearts of fans and critics alike. Led by the distantly resonating vocal vibrations of female singer, Dorthia Cottrell, Windhand's stony style recalls the psychedelic doom trembling of Electric Wizard.

In a review of Windhand's self-titled full-length recording, Metalunderground.com scribe heavytothebone2 praised , "Windhand rouses up the kind of stark, ritualistic aura that any serious doom metal band should project."

Whether by discovering the band on tour with a more established act like High On Fire or through domestic, sonic rituals, people have beckoned the call of Windhand. Beat finder general, Ryan Wolfe spoke with MU before opening a gig at Red 7 in Austin, Texas. The band came through with a touring package that included Power Trip, Mammoth Grinder and Iron Reagan. "Warfare Noise" Compilation Being Reissued

Greyhaze Records has announced the February 18th North American release of the vinyl LP reissue of "Warfare Noise," the seminal four-way split album featuring Brazilian extreme metal greats Sarcofago, Chakal, Holocausto, and Mutilator.

Originally released in 1986 via legendary Brazilian metal label Cogumelo Records, the album's original masters had lost much of their audio prowess due to the long amount of time elapsed since its first release. This new album reissue, however, was carefully restored by mastering engineer Dave Eck and is, once again, available the same way as it was over two decades ago. The savage output of all four bands can be heard just as in the original version.

The packaging of this reissue was also carefully restored by graphic artist Fernando Lima and is now available as a faithful representation of the 1986 release. Aside from the insert, the packaging also includes a special poster with a depiction of the concert flier for the Warfare Noise release show which took place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1986 featuring all four bands.

Despite having been out of print for decades, the "Warfare Noise" compilation is one of the most important documents of early Brazilian metal. It features bands that have played an important role in the development of black and death Metal including important influence in bands such as Mayhem, Darkthrone, Blasphemy, and Beherit. The vinyl LP version features the original eight tracks from that album. The compilation is also one of the first albums ever released by Cogumelo Records, who was responsible for the first releases by metal giants Sepultura.

Cursed Cross (Chakal)
Mr. Jesus Christ (Chakal)
Believers of Hell (Mutilator)
Nuclear Holocaust (Mutilator)
Recrucify (Sarcofago)
The Back Vomit (Sarcofago)
Satanas (Sarcofago)
Destruicao Nuclear (Holocausto)
Escarro Napalm (Holocausto)
