Illinois-based metal outfit Sworn In has issued the following 2013 year-end recap:
"In the year 2013, we started the year off away from home in the studio recording The Death Card, our first album ever. We spent the entire month of January doing so before embarking on a 54 day tour around the country in February and March. We returned home only to go back out again in April in the east coast and this is when we met our first record label ever, Razor & Tie.
"After this, we then headed home before starting a month on the road with For The Fallen Dreams around the whole U.S. June was our first month ever really off since the beginning of the year. July we recorded the Snake Eyes video and played a string of shows going a few states south.
"On August 20th, we finally released The Death Card to the world while on tour with Oceano. Since then nothing has been the same and we can't thank you enough. In September we did a small headlining run for The Death Card bringing out Gift Giver. In October we left to the west coast with Gideon before starting Bleeding Through's last US tour directly after in November. We did our first ever headlining tour in Canada earlier this month, going to Quebec and Ontario. And just this month we put a cap on all of it by touring the east coast going from one tour to the next with a bunch of amazing bands on each one. The last, and 150th show (including festivals) of the year, we played with VANNA at The Palladium in Worcester, MA.
"What an amazing and busy year, and it could not have been more worth every bit of struggle we faced on the ride. Thank you for making 20XIII the best year for The Death Card to ever come out, and know that 2014 it will only grow more and more. We begin 2014 on the grind once again, out through the months of early January to late February with This or The Apocalypse. The tour following that will be the biggest one in our band's history. Don't miss out.
"When the show ends, it's really only starting." More...

Carrying on the tradition that it started in 2008, Misantrof ANTIRecords has, like every year so far, released its Christmas compilation, titled "Holy Fucking ANTIChristmas Volume 6." Misantrof comments:
"The album takes an irreverent poke at what Christmas has become. This year's compilation is again, for your pervert delight, a double CD release, thanks to the amazing interest it has arisen among bands, and then it contains 30 tracks of varying genres, wantonly based on the sick meanings of Christmas. The tracks have been newly written and recorded for this release and like all Misantrof releases this compilation is available for completely free download...
"Regarding the ANTIChristmas albums: If you are reading this you probably don't really love Christmas and its meanings. Humanity is great in creating sick things for everybody to believe. It is such a pity that last year the armageddon did not happen as we wished with our 2012 compilation. So, doomed to live on, our xmas joy reaches such unholy levels in knowing you'll love this new stream of free music, and since Christmas has lost whatever religious significance it had, and it has become a sick orgy of exploitation where everyone is encouraged to spend money to buy stuff they don't need and probably cannot afford, this makes us definitely proud."
The compilation features the following lineup: More...

Flyleaf has checked in with the following recap of 2013 and update about upcoming activity:
"Hello everyone. We hope this email finds you well. As Christmas approaches, we have a moment at home to spend with our friends and families and reflect on all this year has given us.
"This year has been quite a journey. A new beginning, a season of hope and perseverance. We’re thankful for those of you who have joined us on this journey. This year has found us in Japan, Russia, Australia and all corners of the US. We have had a chance to reconnect with you, our fans, and hear your stories of how music has touched you through the years. We have also found ourselves in practice spaces in Texas, California and Georgia working on new music together.
"This is where our story continues. With Pledgemusic we have begun a new journey of sharing these new songs with you. The experience has been extremely rewarding so far. Sharing our process with you has allowed us to open up and connect with you and each other as a band, like never before. We love hearing your feedback and how you feel about our new creations. We’re so thankful for those of you who have pledged and joined in the process with us.
"We would like to give you a sneak peek at a new song we played out live in Texas for the first time. This track is called 'City Kids' and it is a taste of whats to come. We have many other songs to share with you as the process continues, but we leave you this song of reflection and reminiscence.
"We hope you feel the joy and warmth of this holiday season as we celebrate the King of Love, who came as a baby to save the world."
Exodus will be playing at Kirk Von Hammet's Fear Festevil in 2013. The organizers of the fest comment:
"OH YES YES YES! Are we here at your lil' old Fear Festevil delighted to be able to confirm the appearance of legendary Bay Area thrashers Exodus on February 7, at the first FEAR FestEvil ever. The event takes place @ Regency Ballroom 1300 Van Ness Avenue San Francisco CA 94108."
Further details on the fest can be found at this location. The following press release was also issued about Exodus:
"When it comes to thrash metal, in particular Bay Area thrash, Exodus are one of the true Godfathers. Formed in 1980 by guitarist Tim Agnello, drummer Tom Hunting, bassist Carlton Melson and some other six-stringer called Kirk Hammett, Agnello soon left, allowing Hammett's guitar tech Gary Holt to step up and in. Hammett then stumbled across Paul Baloff, a demo was recorded, Hammett left to join some other upstarts, Rick Hunolt took the other guitar and the rest became history.
"Their 1984 debut Bonded By Blood is a stonewall genre classic, and with cranium crunching classics such as A Lesson In Violence, Strike Of The Beast and more… We can promise that this will not be a calm or gentle soiree more than an aural beatdown. The current line-up of Holt, Lee Altus on guitar, Hunting, Jack Gibson on bass and Rob Dukes on vocals has been in place since 2005. Exodus' last album was 2010's Exhibit B: The Human Condition on Nuclear Blast Records, and the band have just started working on new material for a prospective release later in 2014."
