"Asymmetry" is the band’s first new release in over four years (following sophomore release, "Sound Awake") and the 14 tracks were recorded and mixed by producer Nick DiDia (Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine, Mastodon) in Byron Bay, New South Wales.
Karnivool formed in Perth, Australia in 1997 while the band members were still in high school and features Ian Kenny (vocals), Drew Goddard (guitar, vocals), Jon Stockman (bass), Mark Hosking (guitar, vocals) and Steve Judd (drums). More...
The Lion's Daughter Streaming New Song
Following the recent unveiling of latest long player, "A Black Sea," St. Louis doom metal night stalkers The Lion's Daughter spew forth "Gods Much More Terrible."
A fully collaborative effort between The Lion's Daughter and somber folk collective/fellow St. Louis occupants, Indian Blanket, "A Black Sea" is a torrid sound collage of dark and light recorded, mixed and mastered by Gabe Usery (Fister) at Encapsulated Studios in St. Louis.
Give "Gods Much More Terrible" a listen in the player below, courtesy of Decibel Magazine here.
Comments guitarist/vocalist Rick Giordano: "'Gods Much More Terrible' was actually the very first song that The Lion's Daughter ever wrote back in 2007. As we continued writing, songs became faster and more intricate, and this song got left in the dust. We always liked it but were never sure exactly what to do with it until [Indian Blanket vocalist/guitarist/banjoist] Joe Andert began playing his banjo along to an old recording. Together with Joe we built a new song on top of the skeleton of the first song we had ever written.
"The song is set in an old western town facing the apocalypse. It's the idea of civilized but somewhat primitive people facing a blazing disaster they cannot understand and placing responsibility on the only thing they know to fall on; God. Whether that refers to their Christian God, something more sinister, or just the power of Mother Nature is left open to interpretation. But the basic premise was something like the ending of High Plains Drifter with a small old town in a panic as it burns to the ground. It's a bit of an epic, but worth journeying through the inferno to the ending when the sky opens and swallows you whole. I also think that lyrically, it's a perfect blend of both bands... Old West meets the Apocalypse." More...

The band is currently putting the finishing touches on the record at its own Shrimpmonkey Studios in Varberg, Sweden with bassist/vocalist Per Wiberg (Candlemass, ex-Opeth, Spiritual Beggars) handling production.
"After what feels like a very long time of going through different propositions from different record companies, we finally landed smoothly with Despotz Records in Stockholm, Sweden for our upcoming album The Search Goes On," commented the band. "The new material came out brilliant, especially after going through the producer Wiberg's filter. So here we are at the end of 2013, Per Wiberg on bass and vocals, Tobias Strandvik on drums and Thomas 'Juneor' Andersson on guitar and vocals...KAMCHATKA!"

Ilsa Releases New Music Video
Our nation's capitol's most noxious henchmen, Ilsa, have delivered a new video for "120 Days." Check it out below.
The virulent hymn is culled from the band's sophomore LP, "Tutti il Colori del Buio," which was followed by multiple other recordings since. The video was created not in homage to the album but in support of its impending reissue as A389 Recordings -- who delivered the Ilsa's third LP, "Intoxicatations" and most recently the band's split with Seven Sisters of Sleep -- will repress the out-of-print "Tutti il Colori del Buio" LP in early 2014 including Ilsa's contribution to the long lost split with Hooded Menace as a bonus track.
Ilsa, which was covered in the Washington D.C. edition of our "Unearthing the Metal Underground" column, also now inducts new guitarist Tim Moyer (Time Of The Wolf) into the cult, changing the guard from A389's own Dom Romeo who has filled the slot for the past several months.
The writing process on the Ilsa's most impure and depraved material yet is nearly complete, the works to be recorded in early 2014 once again with Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations. More...

I Am Heresy Signs With Century Media
I Am Heresy has inked a deal with Century Media Records to release new album "Thy Will" in March of 2014. The label comments:
"I Am Heresy's sound is an eruption channeling the passionate hardcore/punk fury of early Boysetsfire streaking ferociously down the middle of the metallic-tinged prowess and influences of fellow hardcore giants Integrity and Converge. Imposing. Frenetic. Unrelenting. And certainly unrepentant.
"After Nathan Gray (also of Boysetsfire) ended The Casting Out the start of a new era was heralded when he teamed up with this son Simon Gray and a wild bunch of likeminded musicians to form I Am Heresy. They released a self-titled debut album that was followed by the 'O Day Star, Son Of Dawn' EP shortly after in March of 2013. At about the same time they did their first European tour as well as shows on the East Coast of the USA including some with their new label mates of Vattnet Viskar.
"Recently the Delaware/New Jersey sextet has inked a worldwide deal with Century Media Records and will release its second full length album 'Thy Will' on March 3rd, 2014 in Europe/Australia/NZ and March 4th, 2014 in USA/Canada."
Nathan Gray (vocals) comments on the new album: "A new ethos is born...Come ye daughters and sons of chaos and mystery! We intend to rebuild and create the archetypes of rebellion and revolution against self induced repression. Reveling in anthemic battle songs of lust, pride and indulgence in order to create a ritual purification from the stagnant impotence of servitude and self denial." More...

"The idea of recording the show came in last minute, and given the hard work that was put into this project, we are very pleased with the results. That's why we decided to make it available for the fans to enjoy. We also thought it would be great to have a limited edition of the album, that's why we are releasing it on vinyl. Apostolum Announces New Album
Italian black metal act Apostolum announced that the band's sophmore release, "Winds of Disillusion," will be released on January 21st via Moribund Records.
"Blending the dark atmospheric tradition of scene legends My Dying Bride, Anathema, and Paradise Lost with the razor sharp-edge of modern black metal while retaining a rock sensibility, Apostolum create a bleak sound-picture. Incorporating keyboards as well acoustic grand piano and brass, with such epics as 'Unworthiness And Decay' to the massive 18-minute finale 'Gleam Of Lucidity,' these Italian dark metal icons show their strength in songwriting and creating atmospheric classics."
Guitarist Matteo commented: "Musically, the new album is not the result of the choice to move in a direction rather than another; the entire writing process took place in a very spontaneous and natural way. We did not feel the need to make drastic changes to our sound - forcing a change is likely to remove a band from its purest form. Composing so instinctively, I think we approached, as never before, our essence and the songs honestly represent what Apostolum are today. The only things we set from the beginning of the creative process have been the ones to pay greater attention to the arrangements and songs structures, and improve as performers in the knowledge that we can rely on better equipment in the studio."
Continuing, he reveals, "Lyrically, the album is not a concept, but there is a common element that somehow combines the lyrics of individual songs, which is the current strengthening ourselves to a pessimistic view on the future of the human race and planet earth. Hence, the meaning of the title Winds of Disillusion - the impotence of the human being in front of the occurrence of external destructive natural events together with the inability to suppress the growing of inner feelings of total disillusionment, noting bitterly the inability to be able to remedy a relentless physical and moral decline...a strong emotional wind that sweeps away any hope from the human soul. Ultimately, I believe that Winds Of Disillusion is not only a big step forward compared to Anedonia, but the real Apostolum masterpiece."
The track list for the album is:
1. Intro (Light Into The Void)
2. Unworthiness And Decay
3. Higher Planes Of Existence
4. Debris Of Perception
5. Less Than A Step
6. Gleam Of Lucidity More...

Kayser Streaming Title Track From Upcoming Release
Swedish thrashers Kayser, who recently signed a long-term deal with Listenable Records, have revealed the cover art, track listing and title track from their forthcoming album, "Read Your Enemy." The album is set for release in early 2014 on Listenable Records. The band commented on its newest offering:
"Incorporating the fundamentals of rock and metal with vivid musicianship, Kayser brings you 'Read your Enemy.' With a track listing of songs that have always been there but you would not find anywhere else, the album boasts organic stamina and confidence. With superior riffing and catchiness, a mass appeal is to be expected.
The neck-breaking title track 'Read Your Enemy' originated from Swaney as a double-stomp, classic, palm-muted heavy riffer. The chorus riff with its time change was added together with Jokke to display contrast to the main riff. A sign of opposites which is commonly ubiquitous in Kayser's songwriting. The playful trade off solos seals the songwriting marksmanship. Lyrically, Spice takes on humanity's ever lasting stupidity when diving into religious and ideological fundamentalism."

The recording itself was done at the same session as the previously released track 'The Bull.' Tracking took place at both at Toyland and Goatsound studios."
