The Ocean Recruits New Guitarist

The Ocean, which is out now with new album "Pelagial" (reviewed here), has checked in with the following announcement about recruiting a new guitar player:

"We're happy to announce that Damian Murdoch will be our new guitarist for all upcoming shows and tours next year.

"32 years old, Australian born and bred but living in Vienna (and soon moving to Berlin), Damian is currently teaching guitar and playing songs with titles such as 'The Final Absturz' with his instrumental blues band, the Damian Murdoch Trio. We like that. He also surely knows how to play heavy stuff though. Here's the vid that first caught our attention:

"And that's the audition clip that made us invite him to Berlin to rehearse with us: More...

Vader Recording New Album

Polish death metal act Vader is currently working on a new album and follow-up to previous release "Welcome to the Morbid Reich." The band comments:

"Straight from Hertz Studio-we have a bunch of fresh news about Vader's empire. First of all: WE'RE STARTING WITH THE NEXT ALBUM!

"Today yet nice and easy we're calibrating the heavy weapon for James, so his drumming can blow heads off your necks. From tomorrow we record all these bloody tracks of new incantations.

"The next chapter, a new bible for all those hungry for extreme massacre and dark challenges is called: TIBI ET IGNI 'For You (And Only You) and Fire' - so we can translate from Latin this pretty symbolic title.

"10 songs PLUS 4 bonuses are in plans to be created.... More details soon. Will we set anxiety in your minds? We film the recording process to show the whole thing in a while. Of course, we'll keep You informed about each next step in recordings regularly. Stay alert!"

Daggers To Release New Album

Belgian vicious punk/metal outfit Daggers has announced the forthcoming release of new album "It's Not Jazz, It's Blues," which is due out this spring through Throatruiner Records.

Like the band's previous releases, this album was recorded live and mixed by Ben Phillips then mastered by Magnus Lindberg (Cult Of Luna). This is the band's third full-length and the follow-up to 2011's "Euphoria" (Twelve Gauge Records/Holy Roar Records). Throatruiner Records also comments:

"During their five years of existence, Belgium's Daggers has worked hard on creating unique and singular records to forge a very personal sound. The new full-length 'It's Not Jazz, It's Blues' is an entire different animal than on their crust-infused hardcore previous releases, delivering twelve epic tracks that will drag you down to the bottom of the earth and shred the living out of you with the haste and anger of a thousand rusty swords. Captured in an organic live recording setting, 'It's Not Jazz, It's Blues' takes a hypnotic, noisy approach to the band's claustrophobic blend of punk and metal, more ruthless and vicious than ever." Learn To Cook With Francesco Paoli

Fleshgod Apocalypse has released a new video teaching you how to cook with Francesco Paoli, which can be viewed below. The band also comments:

"Hello everyone! We are really proud to officially announce our last addition to our merchandise. This is a completely different and pioneering idea driven by the great devotion and respect that we have for our country, Italy and our region, Umbria. As Italians we take much pride in our food and traditions, that's why we present our artisan 'pasta.' This is an high quality product, something that you hardly find in foreign countries stores. We personally collected the most famous and delicious types to offer to Fleshgod Apocalypse fans another way to enjoy Italian art. As for promotional campaign and due to high shipping costs of these items we decided to lower the prices for the next period in order to give the chance to everyone to enjoy these special products. Here follows a little clip with our drummer Francesco Paoli showing how to cook it in the proper way.

"We are also excited to announce that we are shooting a brand new conceptual video for a song extracted from our last release. It will definitely stand up from the average as we are going to shoot it in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Sicilia. This region was part of Greece right in the era where the 'Labyrinth of Knossos' myth is collocated and our philological research led us there. It will be artistically deep and metaphorically intricated, a real reflection on the sense of our lives. Considering how big this matter is and how much we love our art, we decided to invest all the Fleshgod Apocalypse pasta and wine profits in a big production video as well as in the future development of the band. Obviously, all your support is really appreciated.

"Last but not least we will officially start the HUGE touring campaign in support of our new album 'Labyinth.' We will play all around the world, starting in Europe in January, continuing in Central America, Asia and Oceania in spring and coming back with an incredible tour in North America in the summer. Can't wait to bring the apocalypse once again all around the world! Finally, we want to thank you all for the unending support and for the massive trust in this band and its art. " More...

Urizen Cancels Tonight's Show

Texas outfit Urizen has issued the following announcement about canceling the band's previously scheduled appearance tonight:

"We are very very sad to say that we will NOT be performing at Wits End in Dallas for tonight's Christmas show and toy drive. The road conditions in DFW are just too hazardous, especially to the north, where Thomas and I live. There's no way for us to safely make it to Dallas, and we are very unhappy about that.

"At this time I do not know if the rest of the show is canceled, but I will give updates as I hear them.

"If you live in DFW, or any of the areas affected by this icy winter storm, please PLEASE stay home tonight! Unless you are willing to risk your vehicle and your life, just kick back, grab an NES controller, and ride the cold out in style!

"Be safe!" More...

Death Metal Christmas Streaming "Nutcracker"

On November 29th, Hate Eternal bass wizard J.J. Hrubovcak unleashed "Death Metal Christmas - Hellish Renditions Of Christmas Classics" upon riotous Black Friday shoppers in an effort to rekindle the true holiday spirit.

Featuring five renderings of the season's darkest hymns, Death Metal Christmas... was composed and produced by J.J. with vocals and artwork by brother/Monstrosity vocalist Mike Hrubovcak, engineered by Hate Eternal mastermind Erik Rutan and J.J. and mixed and mastered by Brian Elliott all at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg.

The concept focuses on Azrael, the angel of death in some Islam, Sikhism and Hebrew lore, and the inevitable fall of mankind. The story follows a child (Azrael) born to a wealthy family heavily involved in politics throughout the generations. The child is not named Azrael but, infused with its spirit, is predestined by Abaddon (the Destroyer) to cleanse the earth of all life.

Today third movement, "Nutcracker: Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy," is available for streaming below via Decibel Magazine. Notes Hrubovcak of the tune:

"I debated on whether to include this song because it so ubiquitous during the season and almost played out, but I thought it needed to be heard in a death metal context. Much of the music produced by the late 19th/early 20th century Russian composers was basically the death metal of its time. It was passionate, aggressive, bleak, dark, unconventional and open-minded, reviled and revered at the same time, disturbing and shocking to convention. I love aggressive and passionate music in any genre -- jazz has hard bop, classical has these Russian composers and we have death metal!" More...
