Hardcore outfit Benchpress will soon be embarking on a tour with Wolf Down (dates available below), which brings up a question of bands with differing ideologies performing together. Benchpress comments:
"We've had a bunch of people ask us why Benchpress, a band full of ignorant, protein loving jabronies, is touring with the vegan, straight-edge band, WolfXDown.
"The second that we start to qualify what bands we're willing to tour with, based on the views they hold and the lifestyle they live, is the second that we lose focus and fall into a segregative mindset. Segregation and discrimination falls directly against every single thing that hardcore stands for.
"Maybe we can learn a thing or two from WXD? Maybe they can learn a thing or two from us? Who knows? Maybe we won't. And even if we don't, we're still going to mosh hard as fuck for 17 days because that band rips.
"Hardcore is about the fucking music. Don't get it fucking twisted." More...

Guitar icon Zakk Wylde, leader of Black Label Society, has announced "An Evening With Zakk Wylde," a solo 13-city tour across Canada featuring intimate versions of some of the band's most popular songs, as well as songs from Wylde's solo album "Book of Shadows" and Southern rock band Pride & Glory.
"This is a special Thank You to the Canadian fans for making 'Ain't No Sunshine' top 20 - Top 20 people!" said Wylde. "I love Canada! They always welcome BLS and are so supportive. To do a more intimate, stripped down show, especially in cities where you're so embraced - is just the ultimate. You can take a song that you've played thousands of times, rearrange it and suddenly its something totally fresh and new. Acoustically, the songs are just as powerful and heartfelt. Even transposing them and performing them on piano, they are no less raw and familiar."
Zakk also has a special message to his Canadian fans: “Thanks to the Canadian chapter of the almighty Black Label for the success of Unblackened and the single, 'Ain’t No Sunshine!!!' I am looking forward to an special evening with our Canadian family.” More...
Periphery's new recording, "Clear," is set for a January 28th North American release. Check out the brand new promo video featuring snippets from all of the songs featured on "Clear" below.
The "Clear" pre-order bundle packages are also now all available at this location. Jake Bowen (guitars) states:
“Clear is an experiment to explore all of the different writing styles in the band. It's rare when you have a band where every member is capable of writing and producing music. With each member controlling their own track, this recording enabled us to go down any path we chose in terms of style and sound.
“Every track also contains a melodic theme established in Clear's intro track 'Overture' this common thread links all of the songs together, even though they all sound wildly different. Clear shouldn't be confused with our new 3rd full-length album that we're currently working on, nor should it be considered an EP as it rides somewhere in-between clocking in at 30 minutes. Enjoy!" Australian metalcore predecessors I Killed The Prom Queen have reunited and are thrilled to be back to share their first new album in 6 years.
"Beloved" is to be released on February 18th, 2014 on Epitaph Records in the U.S. and February 14th in Australia. Listen to the new track "To The Wolves" below.
By the band's own admission, I Killed The Prom Queen has endured a decidedly checkered past. Over the years the group saw multiple vocalist changes and other personnel exchanges, side-project sojourns and moonlighting in other bands, hiatuses and break-ups. Yet through it all, the musical output both live and on record has remained thoroughly inspired.
IKTPQ entered the studio in 2013 in Gothenburg, Sweden with Fredrik Nordström to record "Beloved."
“We’ve really extended ourselves,” says Jona Weinhofen, “But we’ve done it in a way where it’s tasteful and it makes sense with the music. It’s not like we’ve gone from sounding like a metalcore band to sounding like Dimmu Borgir. It still sounds very much like Prom Queen.”
The album's track listing is as follows:
01. Beginning Of The End
02. To The Wolves
03. Bright Enough
05. Thirty One & Sevens
06. Calvert Street
08. The Beaten Path
10. No One Will Save Us

The “Eluveitie & Friends III” festival, which will take place on December 28th, 2013 in Frauenfeld, Switzerland, will be the final appearance of the eight piece music act. The band comments:
"There is an end to all things‘ is a saying. Nevertheless, having to say goodbye is never easy. Meri has been an important part of Eluveitie for 11 years – we have played hundreds of shows around the globe together! We will miss Meri, but foremost we want to say: Thank you for 11 years spent together!
"Every ending means a new start and a new chance. We are looking forward to working with Meri’s successor very much and to have new musical influences this way – we are in the midst of a creative working progress for our new album. In this sense this means: Excitement & creative mode: ON!"
Meri also comments:
"After 11 years of Eluveitie I have decided that it is time for me to move on. I have had the privilege to live through wonderful and unique years on stage and on the road as well as rough ones within the band. My decision has absolutely nothing to do with Irij and the upcoming album. Since many of you know i already have been involved with Irij for quite a few years now. Nevertheless i'll continue with and evolve on my musical journey and thus focusing on the new release, debut shows, rehearsals, new influences and possibilities. More...

Mediaskare Records is proud to announce the addition of Montreal, Quebec’s The Prestige to its roster of artists and will release the band’s Antoine Lussier-produced album "Ecotone" on March 18th. You can listen to the track “Dismantle” from the album below.
“We chose to release Dismantle first because we feel it perfectly represents everything contained on the album musically, its heavy and catchy,” stated guitarist Sebastien Marois. Adding, “Lyrically, Martin and JC wrote the song as an interpretation of the last lucid moments with your loved ones and facing the realization that your whole life is being dismantled brick by brick. Both have had the disease impact their lives in a big way. It’s a terrible thing to imagine, having all the people you love and have had by your side your entire life slowly become complete strangers.”
“An ecotone is a transition area between two biomes, It is where two communities meet and integrate. It may be narrow or wide, and it may be local (the zone between a field and forest) or regional (the transition between forest and grassland ecosystems),” explained the band. “Our bass player Blaise came with the idea about a year ago while we were writing the album and simply stuck with it. It really is a good metaphor about us. This album draws the line between our old sound and what we crafted over the years. The overall image is about separations, as in, before/after, right/wrong, and so on.”
The band teamed with producer Antoine Lussier AT .357 Productions to record "Ecotone," whom the band has worked with in the past. “It was the third time we hit the studios with him and we had a blast. He truly is a genius and he helped us craft the sound we were always looking for. We are very proud of how it sounds and cannot wait to have everyone listen to it.” More...

In the first time in nine years ("Beware" 2004), Steel Prophet will return with the new studio release entitled "Omniscient," which is targeted for a June 2014 release via Cruz Del Sur Music. The album will be made available on CD and vinyl formats.
A living reference for all fans of American Heavy Metal, Steel Prophet needs no introduction to the metal world. With a long history, the band is particularly known for the technical and versatile guitar work of founding member Steve Kachinsky Blakmoor. Let's not forget the soaring vocals of Rick Mythiasin, who has returned to sing with the band for the first time since 2002's "Unseen."
"Omniscient" is a conceptual, sci-fi themed album, textured with with a heavy dose of unusual philosophies and ideas that will appeal to fans of early Steel Prophet material, especially the "Dark Hallucinations" era. "Omniscient" will have a visually-striking package that will read like a graphic novel to highlight the story that underlines the music.
Steel Prophet is currently planning a European tour to coincide with the album's release. Stay tuned for more updates as the release of "Omniscient" nears!

Eyal Levi hasn’t ONLY performed various audio engineering tasks for the some of the top dogs of modern metal with some of the most competitive sounds on record -- He’s also been in the thick of the action as the guitarist of Daath and Levi/Werstler. As a part of Audiohammer Studio in Florida, some of his production credits include working with The Contortionist, Demon Hunter, August Burns Red, Whitechapel, Arsis, The Black Dahlia Murder, Misery Index, and Reflections. He’s also engineered Daath’s records as well. Moreover, he’s taken to hosting interactive seminars on creativeLIVE.com, where inquisitive minds can learn how to distinguish themselves from studio chumps.
When he speaks, he educates. Fortunately for us DIY-minded folks, he likes to speak an awful lot. In fact, he has his own blog over at MetalSucks. In a Metal Underground exclusive interview, however, he has checked in to let us know a bit about his view of the changing landscape of audio engineering in heavy metal, as well as gave us a few good tips for good measure.
