As the band searches for a new vocalist, Dark Funeral has recently been re-issuing previous albums. Now the Swedish band has checked in with the following update about working on new materila:
"Sorry for my long time silence. There are obviously reasons, personal reasons, for this silence, but I have no wish to dig any further into that now or ever to be honest, which I hope you all will respect! Anyway, apart from my short updates on my personal fan-page, I'm more than aware that many of you are waiting for some more concrete news on the new album, and vocalist.
"Unfortunately there's not much to tell except that I/we're still busy writing. And we're still looking for a new permanent vocalist, but as always there are a lot of things happening behind the scene...
"Anyways, speaking about the new album... The new material is coming along absolutely majestic, no doubt! And compared to our previous albums, it carries a more melancholic touch than just sheer darkness & evil, but that's where my blackened heart and soul is at the moment. And wherever my inner demons lead me I will follow. And wherever they'll bring me, it will color my music obviously. I'm absolutely sure you'll dig this new stuff as much as I do!
"Besides writing on the new album, among many other things, we're currently working on a massive 20 years anniversary gig in Stockholm, Sweden this spring. If you know the Dark Funeral history I'm sure you can figure out what date (weekend) we have in mind for this hellish event, if not, just wait for the official announcement coming soon. Anyway, this gig will be 'exclusive' in many ways and you'll don't want to miss it, believe me!
"As said, we're still looking for a permanent vocalist, preferably from Scandinavia. If you've got what it takes to tour intensely and be the front man of the ineffable Kings of Black Metal, please send us your application to firstname.lastname@example.org
"Please provide the following information when sending applications: Send us a photo, your name, age and a short background story about you and maybe bandography incl. touring history. Also attach 1-2 audio/video clips in good quality that have been recorded recently. If we find you interesting, we'll contact you regarding the next step.
"Furthermore, we have just reissued our entire back catalogue through Century Media! All releases have been expanded with previously unseen photos from my personal archive, extensive liner notes by Olivier 'Zoltar' Badin (Terrorizer / Iron Fist), bonus material and revamped layouts. These albums are available as CD (at mid-price!), LP and Digital Download. Check them out and make your order here." More...

"I must admit it's my least favorite time of year, actually I prefer the total opposite, but this time of year is and has been a time of celebration for thousands of years. "Brothers and sisters, have a happy (winter/summer) solstice celebration!"

Quebecois progressive death metallers Bookakee have finally released their new album "Whorrific" and are streaming it over on bandcamp. Stream that fourteen-track album below. This album marks the follow-up to 2011's "Invasion of the Depraved" from the eclectic Montreal combo. Bookakee also has a show planned over in North Bay, Ontario with the band TheKillingFields and Killitorious at the Granite Curling Club on January 25th.
UK-based traditional metallers Dark Forest are set to return with their anticipated third long-player, "The Awakening." The album has been slated for North American release on March 11 via Cruz Del Sur Music. The three-part studio footage videos on the recording process of "The Awakening" can be accessed over here. Below is the cover artwork for the release.
Dark Forest was forged in the Black Country, England by guitarist Christian Horton. After the release of their self-made EPs in 2007, the band went on to release its self titled debut album in 2009 and then "Dawn of Infinity" in 2011. In 2012 Dark Forest recruited vocalist Josh Winnard as its new front man and shortly afterwards also gained guitarist Pat Jenkins. With this new line-up, the band immediately began writing fresh material and entered the recording studio in June 2013 to produce their third album "The Awakening."
The album is recorded in 444hz instead of the standardized 440hz tuning. The decision was based by studying the lost "Solfeggio Frequencies", original sound frequencies which were apparently used in Ancient Gregorian Chants and were believed to impart "spiritual blessings when sung in harmony" and also by studying the nefarious origins of 440hz. Tuning to 444hz corresponds to a "C" of 528hz on the Solfeggio Frequency Scale, the exact frequency used by genetic biochemists to repair broken DNA. This frequency is also believed to encourage "Transformation and Miracles."
Not by coincidence, "The Awakening" opens with the ending lines of Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem " The Mask of Anarchy" and ends with the anthem "Sons of England". The awakening must be both spiritual and intellectual and through the rediscovery of our roots and a connection to nature, must lead all humanity to remember the truth - that we are infinite consciousness and we are one. This is the realization that will defeat the global control system of the elite and set humanity free.
Finnish death metal legion Lie In Ruins will release its newest burnt offering, "Toward Divine Death," on February 4th via Dark Descent Records. Album track "Venomous Tongues" is streaming below, while "Charred Walls" can be heard at this location. "Toward Divine Death" the anticipated follow-up to 2009's "Swallowed by the Void" - released on Spinefarm Records.
Lie in Ruins was formed initially at the golden season of death metal in the early 90's, but was buried in the background for several years. In 2002, after the first demo "Monuments" was released, the need for a second guitarist was met. This unholy trinity began working on new material. After the next demo "Statues," it was time to take the next step, and start spreading the musical propaganda live. So it was time to get some new members again, and this time Lie in Ruins grew into five.
Meanwhile, the Spanish label Temple Of Darkness released a mini-CD from Lie in Ruins, called "Architecture Of The Dead," which was a compilation of the two demos. Next came the split 7-inch with Deathevokation, called "Allegiance in Death," published by Imperium Productions. In 2009, the drummer decided to leave the band before the recording of the new album. Continuing without him, band entered the studio and recorded ten desecrating songs for the full-length album called "Swallowed By The Void."
Dark Descent Records will unleash hell upon Earth in the form of "Abysmal Thresholds," the full-length debut from Finland's Corpsessed. A teaser for the album has been posted below. Clocking in at over 47 minutes, "Abysmal Thresholds" is set to drop on February 4th, 2014.
Corpsessed was spawned in 2007. Vocalist Niko Matilainen, guitarist Matti Mäkelä and drummer Jussi-Pekka Manner were joined by guitarist Jyri Lustig and (de)composing of morbid death metal tunes began at the rotting houses of Järvenpää delta-area. The group's original bass player, Mikko Mäkelä, disappeared in unknown circumstances and was replaced later in 2009 by Mikko Pöllä.
Corpsessed's first EP, "The Dagger & The Chalice," was released on CD by Dark Descent Records (USA) in May 2011. The vinyl version was released by Me Saco Un Ojo (UK) in co-operation with Dark Descent (USA) in October 2011. That release was followed up by a two-track, self-titled 7-inch EP in 2012.
