The Rockstar Ramblings: #RIPMotleyCrue
This week Motley Crue announced their retirement, sort of. Via a press conference the band announced a retirement that would begin after a two-year tour. Apparently they signed a contract that is completely valid unless they all decide to void or write up a new contract. Anyway, there is going to be a U.S. and International tour, maybe a new album, and a country tribute album. I’m sure the country tribute album will bring it all together. More...

Woland To Release "Hyperion" Album
Woland's new album "Hyperion" will be released through Indie Recordings on February 24th worldwide and you can pre-order the album right here.
The first single of the album "Conquer All" is out today on all digital services like iTunes and Spotify. Indie Recordings comments:
"Woland's music relies on a foundation without boundaries and a focused vision. When others crawl in the mud and idolize the past, the band gazes to the future with a Nietzschean vision and welcome it with opened arms. The core idea is to rise above one self and become one with divinity, to be everything you can be. While the music and lyrics are not tied to any specific events or follow any single dogma, they are heavily influenced by some of the modern worlds most prominent philosophers and writers as well as inspired by mythology with its gods and heroes."

Chasma Signs To Candlelight
Candlelight Records is proud to announce the signing of Chasma, and the label comments:
"The earliest incarnation known as Chasma was born in fall 2008 by founding members Ryan Whyte and Aaron Schomaker. The original lineup immediately released a demo on French label Aural Offerings before a year long hiatus due to the urgency of other musical pursuits involving the members.
"After an almost two year break, a two album deal was struck with American label Moribund Records. In 2011 the band released Declarations of the Grand Artificer and immediately parted ways with the then guitar player due to drug use issues. In late 2011 the group recruited Brandon Gordon to fill the guitar position, which shortly gave birth to the second full length given the name Codex Constellatia.
"After years of toil and countless stage performances with bands like Thou, Abigail Williams, Fell Voices, Wolves in the Throne Room, Vattnet Viskar, Ash Borer, Junius, et cetera, the band now joins the ranks of Candlelight Records on their newest full length creation dubbed Omega Theorian."
The band states: "Having the opportunity to join the Candlelight family is an honor that is beyond description for us as a band and as long time metal fans in general. This new band/label marriage marks a new, long anticipated chapter in Chasma that will give us the opportunity to communicate to our audience on a much wider scale from a very prestigious stage. Our fire burns brighter than ever." More...

"As we know, some of you are waiting for a new album….
"Two years ago, we released the 30th Anniversary Album. With that we closed a chapter of our band history and now we are setting the course for the future. On 28 April 2014 (Germany: 25 April 2014; US: 29 April 2014) we release our new album Redefined Mayhem.

"You´ll get 13 first-rate thrash metal songs, that are fast-paced and powerful, chaotic at times and with a modern touch, mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Dark Tranquility, Extol).

Stoneburner Reveals Album Details
Portland sludge slingers and recent Neurot family additions, Stoneburner, are readying to unleash their forthcoming new full-length, "Life Drawing."
The follow-up to the 2012 debut, "Sickness Will Pass," features nine rumbling odes of bottom-heavy hostility and emotional decay. Recorded, mixed, and produced by Fester at Haywire Studios, mastered by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering -- both in Portland -- and swathed in the visually abrasive cover art of J.J. Shirey, "Life Drawing" promises to hurl Stoneburner's habitually chest-caving sludge mantras to entirely new realms of earth-deteriorating heaviness.
Comments the band in a collective statement: "Lyrically we've always focused on personal matters, and one theme that particularly seems to keep coming up on this record is the struggle to be a decent person in a world that keeps doing its best to cause you not to be. J.J. Shirey, who paints our album covers, is part of the Stoneburner brotherhood and we have absolute faith in him.
"We have him sit in on rehearsals, read our lyrics, and then we send him off to come up with whatever he thinks best suits the material. We feel that this piece absolutely captures the mood of trying to grow and heal, but constantly finding yourself falling back into the darkness caused by emotional and physical addictions. The world isn't always a happy, beautiful place, and neither is our music. Thanks to J.J. you're going to sense that before you even hear the album."
The track listing is as follows:
1. Some Can
2. Caged Bird
3. Drift
4. An Apology To A Friend In Need
5. Pale New Eyes
6. Giver Of Birth
7. Done
8. You Are The Worst
9. The Phoenix More...

Interview
Van Canto Brings Forth The "Dawn Of The Brave"
Nobody can accuse Van Canto of being cookie-cutter imitators. Being the only power metal a cappella band in the world, they are truly one of a kind. However, there is a valid argument about whether the band is metal or not. I mean, the group doesn't use a guitar player. Distorted guitar is a defining characteristic of metal music. Crunchy guitar riffs are nowhere to be found, but the group utilizes other elements that draw head bangers to this type of music such as thunderous war drums and rafters-reaching vocals.
Just like any power metal group of worth, Van Canto features a strong voice in the front of the mix. In this case, there are five strong vocalists. Also the group has the majesty and might of power metal's fantasy-based lyrics, often paying homage to the great J.R.R. Tolkien. On "Dawn of the Brave," the group's fifth full-length recording, Van Canto once again offers its choirs of voices on original and cover tunes. They get the guitar outta here on "Badaboom" and give their listeners an empowering anthem with "Fight for Your Life." Covers wise, Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" gets their special vocal treatment while the lovely Inga Scharf revisions Annie Lennox's "Into the West" from the final "Lord of the Rings" film.
I spoke to Stefan Schmidt on the phone concerning "Dawn of the Brave." He is the band's "rakkatakka" singer--the group's bassist, if you will, as he provides the bottom end sounds. Although this was his last interview of the day, Schmidt spoke with much excitement on the forthcoming recording. Due to the response garnered by sneak-peak tracks, he feels fanfare is reaching critical mass. This topic and much more on the career of Van Canto is revealed below.
Homewrecker Posts New Music Video
Northeastern Ohio's Homewrecker has just released a video for "Skin The Pig," a brand new demo track the band recently recorded with its newly revamped lineup. Check it out below.
Having scaled the squad from a quintet with a vocalist down to a quartet with the drummer and guitarist dividing vocal duties, Homewrecker recorded the track as an introduction to the new lineup, and to help fill the gap between the 2012-released "Worms & Dirt" LP and a next official release later this year.
The music for the video was recorded by band cohort Thomas Tadsen in Cleveland in December, and the video was shot by Todd Thompson.
Warfather Streaming Debut Album
The debut release from ex-Morbid Angel bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker's end time death metal outfit, Warfather, is now upon the masses, as Greyhaze Records released the mighty "Orchestrating The Apocalypse" on January 21st in North America, and its February 24th European release is closing in.
Today you can also hear the entire album online. Give all the tracks a listen in the player below, courtesy of Revolvermag.com. You can also read our recent interview with Steve Tucker about the album at this location. More...
