For this week's edition of Pit Stories, guitarist Taylor Roberts from Cathercist shares a tale of his most memorable mosh experience at a Lamb of God show:
I think the craziest mosh pit I ever encountered would have to be when I attended Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, Children of Bodom, God Forbid, and Municipal Waste. I remember thinking how crazy this show was, because it was in this random town in Louisiana. The auditorium looked like a bigger, more asbestos filled gymnasium from high school, so I knew it would be interesting.
The show is going on and the crowd is getting crazier with each band. And of course at the time I had brought my then girl with me and she was losing her mind over the pit, and I was absolutely loving it. Well Lamb of God finally gets on stage and second song in, it's a sea of crazy kids and a crowd surfer floats by, falls down, and as he gets back up, dropped kicked the ever living shit out of me. I wasn't even mad, if anything I threw horns in the air, yelled "Hell Yeah!" And started pushing kids back! I had the biggest grin.
As far as pits that we've started, I think my favorite was at uproar 2011 with A7x, BFMV, Sevendust, and more. The event was supposed to be outside, but apparently a monsoon had come out of nowhere at the coliseum so the stages had to be moved inside. There were about 5,000 kids inside the convention center and I remember us saying "Ignore these signs that say no moshing, they mean nothing today!" And we started our song "Rise" and when it kicked in, we had a wall of death that started and this huge pit erupted in the center of the crowd. Security of course broke it up, but it was pretty insane cause no one moshed after that because security got real strict after us, but we felt quite accomplished. We did get bitched at though by security afterwards haha.
Cathercist will soon be hitting the road with American Head Charge for a U.S. tour. You can find the dates right here, or check out a music video from the band below. For more info on Cathercist, head over to the group's Facebook profile here. More...

Jón Aldárá comments: "As a fan of Barren Earth from the very beginning, I had no doubts about showing my interest in the singer position. There's just no way to put this without sounding cliched as hell but his contribution to the new material has indeed already taken the sound of the band to a new level. Can't wait to hit the stage and the studio!"

"What is it that I love about the East Coast of Canada? There seems to be some sort of pungent energy that clings to the air like that of a great high school party where everyone got laid. A day after news spread over the web about the departure of founding guitarist Yossi Sassi from Israeli Oriental progressive metal act Orphaned Land, the band officially acknowledged the split. In a statement on the band's Facebook Page, singer Kobi Farhi stated:
"It is a sad day for us, I remember the day me and Uri were looking for a guitarist and put an ad on one of the record shops in Israel, no one called for some time, until we got only one response, and that was Yossi’s.
"Since our youth we were veins of the same body and soul, and built something which was but a realm of light. However, we respect the fact that taking different paths is a part of life. These situations had happened to even bigger and greater than Orphaned Land and the important thing here is that we are still and forever brothers, and the door remains open for both sides. Writing or sharing the stage is something we could easily keep on doing in the near future. Until then, we offer Yossi a warm hug, and wish him the very best! As for Orphaned Land, we keep on going with full force unto our next goals.
"We never had a main composer or a mastermind in the band, Orphaned Land was always an adventure in which all members are partners in the writing process and in the shaping of the band’s concept, therefore Orphaned Land will always be an idea, a concept, a whole which is larger than the sum of its parts. We are planning and will soon announce many shows for 2014 as well as write new material for our next albums.
"With endless love, Let there be light.

After recruiting new guitarist Dario Lorino a few days ago, Zakk Wylde has today announced that a brand new Black Label Society studio album titled "Catacombs of the Black Vatican" will be released in Europe on April 7th, 2014 via Mascot Label Group. A North American release comes on April 8th.
Mascot Label Group is honoured to welcome the band to the label, having recently signed BLS exclusively for European territory.
"Catacombs of the Black Vatican" is Black Label Society’s first new studio album since "The Order of the Black," which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and was followed by the covers album "The Song Remains Not The Same." Mascot Label Group comments:
"Since their late nineties inception, Black Label Society, formed by guitar legend Zakk Wylde, has been at the forefront of their genre. Their taste for hard riffs and blazing solos has resulted in a slew of hugely successful albums and a reputation as one of the most powerful live bands of their generation.
"Zakk Wylde, who has been called one of the true guitar heroes in modern history, served as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist for over 20 years, in addition to his work with BLS. This collaboration led to a string of multi-platinum albums, including Osbourne’s biggest selling 'No More Tears,' for which Wylde wrote all the music.
"Bestowed with such accolades as 'Metal Guru' from the recently held Classic Rock awards in the UK, 'Golden God' by Metal Hammer and the 'Best Guitarist' Award from Revolver Magazine, Wylde has proven time and time again that his songwriting, guitar prowess, and on-stage persona, along with his larger-than-life personality, have made him a force to be reckoned with."
